Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. You will have to remove all cargo area floor coverings, storage trays, and the scuff panel to access these connection points. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system and is made using SMT to ensure superior performance.I just completed installation of the Curt Trailer Light Wiring Kit C-56274 on our 2018 Jeep Renegade TrailHawk.
The kit is very well thought out, and relatively easy to install.
The written instructions appear to be for an older model than mine.
On my 2018, it was NOT necessary to remove the complete side panels.
All work can be completed just by removing the spare tire, tool kit, and the foam package tray, (Photo#1&2) then unbolting the rear trim panel (3) Phillips Head screws in the wheel well, and (2) bolts holding the Tie-down brackets, that require a #40 Torx bit. (Photo#3)
Then remove the snap-out grilles in each side, (Photo#4&5) and you can access everything. You may have to use a fish-wire to pull the wires up to the lights.
Route the “Tee” connector and the respective wires up into the Taillight area, unplug the harness connector and install the “T”. (Single Green wire goes to the right side, all others up into the left side. Secure the power module and secure the wiring to the rear surface of the wheel well however you prefer. (I used “Duck” tape.)
Re-install the rear trim piece. This will require working the rubber door seal up over the lip of the panel, using a molding tool, screwdriver, and /or fingers (Photo #11&12.) Install the (3) screws & the (2) Torx bolts and tie-down brackets.
Coil the wire with the trailer plug in the wheel well adjacent to the spare tire, & extend it to your trailer under the door lip when you need it.
I would like to add a comment on the great service and fast shipment I’ve received from E-Trailer over the years. They are my “Go-To” people for trailer & towing needs.
Thanks very much,

I am not a mechanic. I own and use lots of tools but for this stuff I am a beginner and installing this was difficult and frustrating for me. The part that really sucks is getting the wire to the battery. I really wish they included the fishing tube they used in the demo video. I even bought airline tube but the kind I got isn’t stiff enough so I don’t know what exact type they had.
I ended up having to do a very bootleg way of running the wire to the battery because I could not get the battery wire through the grommet hole thing, so it goes from my trunk down on the floor and out my driver door to under the hood. I needed to move a camper in a hurry so this was the best I could do so I was road legal.
Obviously this is a dumb way to have this installed long term so I bought some shrink wrap connectors and am going to try and do this properly if I can find something to get the battery wire through the grommet (I think thats what it’s called?). If I could figure out a way to go from my dash to under the hood, I would just keep the wiring inside, but googling how to do this wasn’t as clear cut for me since the instructions assume more base knowledge than I have.
I was actually able to "fish " harness to each side. I used a electrical wire fish tape , going from the bottom to the open access panel area , hooking , in my case a 16-2 speaker wire, pulling it to bottom. Attaching the harness to speaker wire and pulling back up. It sounds like double work, but much less then pulling upper and lower panels on both sides. For the hot lead to front I was able to slip it under the plastic cover used for the brake lines for much of the distance to the front.

Great, no problems with hitch or wiring.
First time install like this and the video was spot on, and easy to follow. My hands had a slight problem fitting inside the rear side panel. The over all length was plenty, I fed it through my hitch and still had some which got zip-tied and back fed. Used multiple times, been in water and much more and never had an issue.

Everything has been great absolutely no issues!
This was described as a direct bolt on hitch. It was not. Drilling was required on my 2017 Latitude. The directions were not correct on the removal of the necessary trim to install the hitch. The overall design of the hitch is excellent and does remain hidden as described. My recommendation is prior to beginning the installation, research the trim removal steps and have trim replacement clips in hand before beginning. The wire harness kit was easy to install but recommend having extra wire ties to ensure the power wire is well secured.
Fairly easy install on a Jeep Renegade. Works well.
This product mounted properly and works as intended. I'm taking away a star for the awful instructions given with the product. Black and white, low resolution photos and poorly written, the instructions do not make it an easy install.
HOWEVER, etrailer's included video completely saved this install. The video was high quality, easy to follow and showed everything necessary. Only thing I had to do that wasn't brought up in the video was to acquire a rubber grommet for the power wire feed and thats only because I own a Trailhawk. The other Renegade models have a more difficult install for the hitch kit because of mounting hardware but provides a rubber grommet from one of the holes used to mount the hitch kit (etrailer's video walked us through this). The trailhawk has hardware already installed where the rubber grommet would be and so I had to grab one at my local auto parts shop.
Purchased this product for a 2016 Jeep Renegade Latitude. Installation was pretty straightforward except for two items:
The video (watch it since the enclosed instructions are generic) suggests that you can run the hot wire from the battery through an existing grommet at the bottom of the left rear inner fender. I found this not to be practical since the grommet is sealed around existing wiring as it exits the inner fender. I found it necessary to drill a small hole in the bottom of the inner fender, put a grommet in place , and run the wire through it.
Also, the video suggests that when the installation is complete, the lead for the trailer connector can be bundled up and kept in the inner fender area, to be accessed through the removable plastic grate and run through the cargo compartment when you need to use it. I don't think this is the best idea since there is a fuse box in that inner fender which may get damaged if you are going in and out of there. I will likely buy an extension for the trailer lead and run it into the spare tire area to leave it there.
I am pleased with the Curt T-connector harness. It was quite plug and play. The only unexpected issue I had was running the wire through the rear driver's side taillight access. There was no hole so I had to drill and grommet a new hole to get to the chassis area. After that I picked up wire wrap from a local retailer to further protect the wire running underneath. All in all, great service and product from etrailer!
This is an exellent product and fairly easy to install. My advice is to skip the undercarriage approach to running the wire to the battery and run it inside the cab. It was very easy to tuck the wire under the plastic trim along the left side of the vehicle and up under the dash, completely invisible and, for the most part, no wear points. The work under the dash is a bit of a challenge. On the Jeep Renegade 2016 there is a gasket around a bundle of wires about 6" below dash level on the driver side of the firewall. I was unable to add the wire to the bundle but it was easy to make a small puncture in the gasket and run the wire next to the bundle and through the firewall.
Total time was about 1 hour, even with the delay in figuring out how to deal with the firewall. Very easy and clean installation and everything you need is in the kit.
I purchased the trailer wiring harness for a 2020 Jeep Renegade on a Monday afternoon. I chose standard shipping for about $4. It arrived on Friday, three days earlier than the "expected" delivery date.
I've never done any electrical work on a vehicle before, but I'm fairly mechanically inclined, and I watched a couple of the instructional videos. The entire install took me about 2 hours. I was working alone. Routing the power cable up to the battery by myself took more time than it would have with an extra set of hands.
One of the previous reviews for a 2018 Renegade install mentioned not having to remove or loosen any of the side panels. I went that route, and it worked just fine. I only removed the carpeted floor panel, the two foam pieces, the spare tire, and the rear-center plastic panel. I was able to use a wire to fish the cables from the bottom of the side panels up through the removable access grates in the side panels.
All the connections snapped together perfectly. Because I didn't loosen the side panels, I was not able to stick the black power unit to the sheet metal behind the side panels as described in the written instructions and the videos. Instead, I stuck the power unit to the sheet metal at the back below where the rear plastic panel would eventually be reinstalled (between the spare tire and the rear of the compartment). There was just enough cable to get from the power unit, under the side panel, and up to the driver's side taillight area.
Everything was included and went smoothly.
It's a really good thing I had the Jeep on the lift in order to run the wiring from the battery to the rear driver side compartment. Finding a reasonable place to insert the wiring into that compartment was difficult and it would have been good if the instructions could have included a good location. I had to run the power wire all the way back to inside the rear bumper in order to find a reasonable place to run the wire into the compartment where the connection needed to be made.
Great product and instructional videos. My husband had it all installed in just a couple hours. Looks great too!
Really easy to install, takes about 40-60 minutes without a lift. Hardest part is running the power/supply wire under the car. Everything you need is included, but I would recommend electrical tape to secure your connections.
The instructions ask you to remove/loosen most of the rear quarter trim which isn’t necessary, all you have to do is remove the faux speaker grilles to access the taillight plugs. Easy installation and no problems with the harness out of the box.
The company is very reliable and trustworthy people. They offer quality products at affordable price. The wiring harness's are easy installation for anyone with some mechanical and wiring knowledge. IF the harness doesn't work for you, I'm 99.5 % sure it's not the fault of the harness but the person who tried to install it!!!!
2018 Trail Hawk. Pretty easy on the Trail Hawk - removable grills make accessing tail light connections a breeze. Ran "hot" wire under driver's side kick panels and up through the firewall. There was a gasket in place, so ran the wire through it. Well thought out product.
Nice wiring harness. The installation went fairly smooth. I definitely recommend this to all of my friends and family!!
Solid kit and easy to install. Hardest part is taking your trim off and feeding your power cable down and out underneath vehicle for routing. Highly recommend making sure you have something to use to fish it through. Kit has everything you need but would suggest having extra tie-ties of your own, half the the ones in kit didn’t want to stay tight.
The wiring kit is great, but the instructions are garbage to someone that is trying to use them to take apart your panels in your vehical out good luck way more fasteners than what is tells you there are, I tossed the instructions and easier finding them on my own, otherwise good wiring kit!
The lighting kit arrived expeditiously. It hooked up with NO problems. This is the first item, ever, that worked like it was supposed to. :) The only thing that I would suggest, is to let the buyer know that the 10 amp fuse is NOT included in the kit. No biggie, we were going to town anyway. Great product and customer service.
Very pleased. Installation easy. Every thing was supplied although I did add some more zip ties. Working great!
This wiring harness was a no brained to me. I have done wiring for years but I can spend hours making what I need or just plug and go . Do it right and do it once.
Everything worked flawlessly!! No missing parts. All holes lined up perfectly…. it did take me a while to run the wire from the battery to the back bumper but that’s cause I’m big and ugly!!
