Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Easy peasy!!! The video you posted for the install on my 21 Jeep GC was spot on!!! I have a hitch on my older Jeep and was excited to find this kit for my newer Jeep! Adding the hitch tomorrow when it arrives!! Installed on the day of delivery no problem!! Thank you for this easy solution!
It worked on my 2020 Grand Cherokee, but I really could have used a couple more inches on the wires to the left taillight. I mounted it as shown in the video and then couldn't reinstall the light. I was able to move it and it worked out. I can attest that the adhesive pad holds well! I also had to trim some extra plastic off one of the plugs.
Installation was exactly as described inn the videos... Doesn't mean it was easy. WHY don't I have a LIFT???
Seriously, the lights work and do what they need to. eTrailer was amazingly fast and efficient as always. This is the third or fourth item I have ordered from them and everyone is the perfect fit for the application.
It never showed up even after the 2nd order! Luckily u-haul had it because i needed it desperately by that day. etrailer never sent my 1st order and my second order didn’t have the harness. Truly disappointing, u-haul now will always have my business, they are everywhere and they have it IN STOCK!!
Great products and great videos. The task intimidated me until I watched the videos and saw how simple the job was. The 30lb hitch was a bit of a challenge to this eighty-something year old, laying on the ground and working over my head, but it got done -- simple but physically challenging. The wiring was super simple but, again, the video showing how to use fish-tape to snake the harness through tight quarters was a life saver. Very pleased with the quality of the products.
I really like Curt products and would usually give it a 4 or 5 star. However, the workmanship on this harness caused me problems. After attaching the harness and I tested the wiring, the driver’s side signal and brake lights would not work. After a bit of troubleshooting, I was able to determine that one of the kit’s wire splices (the yellow wire) was over-crimped and the wire was actually cut. The only thing holding it together was the insulation on the wire and the shrink tube insulation over the splice. I re-crimped the wire and it works fine. Not everyone would have the experience or tools to easily troubleshoot this one. It took me about an extra 20 to 30 minutes to diagnose and then figure out how to fix it. Also, thank goodness Curt has a Youtube video for installation. The included instructions were not helpful. They have even moved the ground wire to the signal light housing end of the harness. The included wiring diagram shows it coming from the black converter box.
The plug and play wiring is ideal. The hardest part is running a powered wire from the battery, but that's what gives lights full brightness.
2021 Jeep GC 3.6 no factory tow package, this was an excellent option to add. Not being the 5.7 the 4 pole connector is perfect. Hardest thing is running the wires if you’re on your back on the garage floor. Lift would make this a 2 star difficulty but since I was on the floor it was a 3.5 out of 5 for difficulty. Grease isn’t needed if you use the butt shrink connectors like in the video, I also added the shrink wire sleeves over the connector (without a doubt it is weather proof doing this). Plugged in the tester and all worked as advertised. Highly recommend if you want to save money, my whole setup ran me under $xxx, Jeep dealer wanted close to $xK for hitch/7 pole/labor. I recommend to everyone if you’re towing a trailer with lights and no brake setup.
The kit is good. Like another reviewer here, my harness had a loose connection that was only discovered post install, so required some trouble shooting and fixing of the loom itself. If not for that would be 5 stars.
We ordered the trailer receiver hitch and electric wiring harness for the trailer, everything was easy to install with the video support. Excellent service and components, definitely will order from etrailer again

Product arrived on time and packaged nicely. I have not yet installed but quality of product looks good and installation video was very good and it seems to be a fairly easy install.
Just because of the vehicle it’s a little bit of a pain but the directions were spot on and harness was good quality. Would recommend.
Perfect fit, easy install, works great. Pulled a u-haul trailer about 3000 mi on freeways, in cities, on small roads and on gravel roads to campsites - worked perfectly.
The product is just what I needed and works great. The best part, though, was the installation video. Spot on - just had my phone out and played it as I installed it. Exceptional quality without a minor step skipped. Etrailer has my loyalty because of the things like that.

Not great - just after being installed for a year and used monthly I found the connector and cover melted and the ground wire fried. Curt suspects some kind of short and told me it’s likely somewhere along the route from the battery fuse was broken. Not a warranty issue so I’m out $ for a new one and all the time spent running the wires. I followed the e-trailer video step by step as my original review shows. Maybe this isn’t a product issue but it’s still frustrating.
The part number is different and the year model listed on the package is not correct. But I'm assured it is the right part....I hope so

I saw this comment and wanted to double check the fitment for you. I looked on our fitguide and I also checked the the Curt website, and it says it is a match for your '21 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Way to install. Plus the installation video made the job that much easier!! The customer service was professional and prompt. I highly recommend etrailers.com for all your trailer needs and accessories
