Installation
This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.
Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

I installed this on my 2022 Grand Cherokee L and I’m very satisfied with my purchase. Installation was an interesting challenge but eminently doable. The written instructions that come with the hitch aren’t very useful but the video was an excellent step by step guide. This hitch is not an exact fit for a 2022 Grand Cherokee L and required some easily accomplished adaptations. My muffler and its mounts were different than the 2021 model in the video and, although it made it easier to move it out of the way for the installation process, it did require that I drill two eighth inch holes in bottom of the hitch at the mounting location to accommodate reattaching it in its original position. Note that the muffler mounting bolts in addition to the six large bolts (three on each side) must be removed in order to remove the rear bumper structure and to install the new hitch. I wish the video spent more time in demonstrating how to undo the electrical connections for both the lights and the two major connections to the rear assembly. I got the lights disconnected after some fiddling but never succeeded in disconnecting the major connectors behind the fenders. My work-around was to physical release the back assembly following the video instructions and then place three two by fours lengthwise in the back of the car and gently raise the assembly and rest it on the two by fours. Be careful not to over stretch the wiring or cause any of the sensors located on the bumper to become detached or out of alignment. This kept the rear assembly clear of the hitch area and didn’t require disconnecting the troublesome connectors. The new hitch slid in easily into place and other than the additional holes that were necessary to accommodate the muffler mounts it was painless. Note: When installed this hitch sits proud of the bumper fascia and the removable middle panel cannot be reinstalled. This isn’t an issue in my case since an extension will not be required to install my bike rack.

I was not thrilled with having to run a battery wire from front to rear for the module. It’s just odd. I’ve never had to do that. It’s usually plug and play, or maybe a tail light hookup. Very difficult to install in my jeep grand Cherokee L.

I know that it can be a pain in the patootie to route the power wire to the battery however there is a reason for it. Most or some of the newer vehicles have electrical systems that are not able to handle the amperage draw for trailer lights in the rear. Running a power wire to the battery allows for the power to be pulled from there which will protect the vehicles sensitive electrical system. We have an FAQ that can help.

No issues, all is great like new still.
Vehicle is at the dealer now for back up communication failure and other electrical issues. They are blaming the tow hitch and adding harness. They will not diagnose further till it’s removed.

Having computer issues with the Jeep is not fun. What kind of computer issues are they? The wiring harness plugs in line with the tail lights and takes power directly from the battery. It would not typically affect the computer system in the Jeep.

This was a perfect solution to wiring a 4 pin connector to my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The easy to follow instructions and video were extremely helpful and the overall install was fairly simple. The running of the power from the battery to the rear was the most difficult and took roughly 30 min to fish it through the enclosed frame. I installed the corresponding hitch at the same time since I had to remove the bumper cover anyway, which was also a very simple install. The complete install for everything took approximately 3 hours. Given the dealer cost to install the OEM hitch and wiring was around $2300.00, this was a very practical and cost effective solution.
Installed and works fine. Got the 12volt from a rear power port rather than run the cable to the front of the vehicle.

In order to protect your vehicle wiring, it is really best to run the 12V power wire up to the positive battery terminal in the engine compartment of your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. This ensures that you have a direct connection to a 12V source, and that there nothing else pulling power off the same wire. When you tap in at the rear of the vehicle, you run the risk that other functions or accessories have been connected to the same 12V line, which could cause an overload or back feed of power through the wiring harness if there was a short or bad ground at some point. Wiring harness was back ordered when I first purchased, but etrailer kept me informed throughout the whole process. Very pleased with my purchase and how it was handled by the professional staff!
I've never done a hitch install before. It took me six hours from start to finish for hitch and wiring. Would definitely do it again. The video made getting the plastic "bumper" in the middle off easier than it was for me. Kinda have to get something flat in there to help release clips under the hatch seal. Otherwise, I saved some money doing it my self and gave me something to do on a rainy day. Thanks.
This is a great harness. I used split looming on all the runs. For the 4xe, I ran the hot wire along the passenger rocker and tucked up under the rails using lots of zip tires because of the high voltage batteries taking up all the space. Again I used split loom on all runs. I mounted the controller up side down about a foot from the tail light and there was an existing stud that I cleaned and used as a ground. I tested it by turning on my emergency flashers and got flashing 12 volts at the 4 plug.
*almost* perfectly fits my needs and expectations.
One small issue I have is that it contains only one self-tapping screw, but the instructions recommend using a second one for the grounding wire. Why not include the 2nd screw? I'm not sure that they actually saved that much money by not including that screw.
Again not a big issue, but it's tedious. I sort of expected to have a complete set of equipment for this, but now I have to buy a separate one from elsewhere.
If you're looking to buy this harness, make sure you also buy an additional self-tapping screw.
Ease of installation due to simple and efficient design and excellent install video made this a simple project.
Once you realize all the trim panels you have to remove for an OEM tow harness installation, the more sense this harness make, a complete plug and play solution, 4 hours of your time and voila.
So far this is the second wiring harness I've installed from etrailer and both were easy to install and work flawlessly.
Perfect fit for my Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2022. The install video is very clear and made the process straight forward. The fascia can hide the hitch when not in use so that's perfect. It took me 2h30 to install with the harness.
Very easy to install. Used a crawler dolly to run the positive wire from battery box and then the remaining cables were plug and play.
Installed this morning with exceptional ease. Also installed hitch. Total job time was 3.5 hours. No cussing and no fussing. Install video way better than instructions packaged. If installing with hitch, run wiring kit while back of vehicle is apart, makes the job even easier.
After receiving the wrong harness, this one has been trouble free for a year. It’s very important that you order the correct one and the online store did not do adequate description of the differences.
This is my second order from these guys. Great to do business with! Fast and affordable . . . Also great installation instructions!
no where in the poor instructions was indicated the left and right connection. No schematic in the box.

You mentioned that you needed to drill holes in the bottom of the hitch and I wanted to see if you could explain in more detail why you had to drill them. Would you be able to send a picture of the location.
