Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your Hyundai Santa Fe with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system.
Features:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins plug-in simple vehicle wiring harness with the four-pole flat trailer connector. This product 00:00:08 fits certain years and models of the Kia Forte and Hyundai Santa Fe. You can use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com to see if this is a fit for your vehicle. It's going to provide a four-way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. Now, this connector is compatible with five-pole, six-pole and seven-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately if you're in need of one.
It's going to come with a dust cap for the four-way flat connector. That way you can cover up the connection points whenever your plug's not being used. The black box right here is the included tail light converter. This is going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. This powered module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. Now, the unit's designed to connect quickly and easily.
What you'll need to do is locate the connection points. Those are going to be located in the rear cargo area. Then you'll need to plug in your connectors. One is going to go towards the passenger side. The other goes to the driver's side.
These plugs are custom fit for your vehicle so they're going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle and snap-lock together for a nice tight secure fit. Once you have those plugged in, you'll need to make a ground connection. It's going to be your white wire with a ring terminal already attached to it. You want to get that grounded to a suitable grounding location using the included grounding screw. Then you'll need to mount your converter box and you can easily mount this out of the way with the included cable ties. There's a hole located on each side that allows for easy mounting of the box.
After you have that done, you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is the red wire coming out of box. It has a butt connector already attached to it. You want to get this connected to one end of the bundle of red wiring. The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery and gets connected to one-half of the fuse holder here at the butt connector. The other half of the fuse holder has a ring terminal on it that gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. The unit's going to come with your 20-amp fuse. It goes directly in here and it's got the fuse cap that goes over and keeps that safe and protected. Once you have that done, you can secure any excess or slack in the wiring with the included cable ties. It is recommended that you use a small amount of terminal grease on all your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the four-pole connector itself. The grease is designed to help prevent corrosion to the terminals and it is included with the kit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins plug-in simple vehicle wiring harness with the four-pole flat trailer connector.
