Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area. You will have to remove the trunk floor coverings and the rear scuff panel to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-pole flat trailer connector. This product fits certain years and models of the Hyundai Elantra. It's going to provide a 4-way flat connector at the back of the vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. This is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately. It's going to come with a dust cap for the 4-way flat plug.
That way you can cover up the connection points when the plug is not being used. the black box on the unit, that's this right here, this is going to be the included tail light converter. This is going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. The power module's going to connect directly to the battery through the wiring and that's going to help avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. It's going to be constructed using surface bound 00:00:43 technology for consistent, reliable performance. What that does is, it maximizes the trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat and it's going to ensure superior operation even in rough road conditions. Now this system's going to connect quickly and easily.
All you have to do is look at the connection points in the rear cargo area. You're going to have 2 sets of connectors. The set with the green wires going to go to the passenger side. The other set's going to go to the driver's side. You locate the connection points, you plug them in.
They're going to snap lock together. The connectors are going to match up perfectly with one another. Once you get those connected, you'll need to make a good ground connection. That's going to be the white wire with the attached ring terminal. You want to get that grounded to a nice, clean metal surface with the included grounding screw, and then you can mount the converter box using the double-sided adhesive tape that's provided with the kit.
That way you can get that mounted to a nice clean, out of the way location. Then you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. That's going to be the black wire right here. This is going to get connected to the bundle of black wire with one of the included butt connectors. The other end of the black wire runs to the vehicle battery, gets another butt connector attached to it and connects 1/2 of the fuse holder. The other half of the fuse holder gets a ring terminal attached to it, and gets connected with the positive posts of the vehicle battery. It also comes with your 10-amp fuse, goes right here into the fuse holder. That's got the fuse cap to keep the fuse safe and secure. Once your installation's complete, the 4-way connectors are going to be stowed in an out of the way location within your cargo area. The kit's also going to come with some zip ties, that way you can secure the excess or slack in the wiring that you may have. It's going to come with detailed installation instructions to walk you through the process, step-by-step. It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease like some dielectric grease on all of your electrical connections, like right here the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself. That grease is going to help prevent corrosion to the connection points. It is sold separately so if you need some, you can find some here at Etrailer.com. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at 3 amps per circuit. For the tail lights, we're looking at 6 amps per circuit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-pole flat trailer connector.
I Love, it works real good and still working, Easy to Install, just what my trailer needed Thanks Dave.
Wiring purchased was perfect, almost plug and play type hookup. When completed it worked great. Very pleased with my purchase from etrailer!!
Running lights didn’t work.. than dealing with customer service is a nightmare, I’m out $xx on this one learned a lesson
