Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring - no cutting or splicing required.
Features:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's electrical junction box, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold, the storage doors, and some interior lining to access this box.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Speaker 1: Today on our 2011 Acura MDX we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. Part number HM11143275. This is what our wiring looks like when it's installed. You can see it's going to live inside of the vehicle. It's going to come with a dust cap. It's going to cover all your connections from the elements.
When it's not in use, you simply open your hatch, roll it up, and put it into your cargo area. When you're ready to use it, simply hang it out of the back of your vehicle. You want to make sure to lay it on this rubber seal. Stay away from the strike plate or any connections that your tailgate or hatch is going to make to lock in place. As you can see this is going to give you plenty of extra to get connected to your trailer. This is made to live inside the vehicle, so it's not going to harm it coming out through the hatch here.
It's going to have some tape wrapped around the wires to give a little extra protection. It's going to give you all the proper functions for your trailer. Proper lighting functions. It's going to give you your taillights, your blinkers, your brake lights, and your ground. This is what you're going to get in your kit. It's going to come with everything necessary to get it installed.
It's going to plug directly into your fuse panel on the back of the vehicle. What's important is this modular box. This is going to keep your vehicle wiring or any or your electronics from getting harmed if there's an issue with the wiring that's in your trailer and it's going to prevent any back feed from getting to your manufacturer's wiring. To begin our installation we need to get into the back of the vehicle. Over here on the driver's side you're going to see a panel. We need to remove that.
Our wiring is going to connect right here. It's going to plug into that area. Next we're going to remove this cover, set it aside. Next we're going to remove the threshold. You're simply just going to pull up on it. Set that aside. We're going to remove the cover for our jack. We're going to turn these and just pull out. This is going to give us access underneath to get our wire through.Next what we're going to do is we're going to take the plug end on our wiring harness and we're going to feed up behind this panel to right here. Now if you look at the plug, the two sides are different. You want to make sure this side is facing up when you plug it in. It's got the little push tab. Push it in until it clicks. You can see the two holes that are on each side of the box. What we're going to do is we're going to take one of our included zip ties, I'm going to zip tie it to this wiring that's running across the back of the vehicle. I'm going to try and go underneath of this panel so it stays protected from anything we decide to put in the back of the vehicle.Next thing I'm going to do is mount my ground wire right behind this panel. You can see how this is doubled. I think this is going to be a good place to put it. I'm going to pull that back. We'll take our self-tapping screw and a 1/4" socket like that. Next what I'm going to do is I'm going to take my 4-pole, I think I'm going to run it right back behind here. That way it can be stored right here. Put this back into place. Put our threshold back in place and our cover. Now let's test out our wiring using part number I26. Left blinker, right blinker, running lights, brake lights. That will do it for the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. Part number HM11143275 on our 2011 Acura MDX.
