Specs:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's electrical junction box, which is located behind the driver's-side tail light. You will have to lift the storage lid in your cargo area and remove the panel on the driver's side to access this junction box. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, insert the 10-amp fuse in position 2 and the 7.5-amp fuse in position 11 of the junction box.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-pole Flat Trailer Connector. This product fits certain years of the Acura MDX. You can use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com to ensure that this is a fit for your vehicle. What this does is it provides a 4-way, flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. Now this connector is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately. And it's going to come with a dust cap for the 4-way, flat connector.
That way, you can cover up those connection points whenever your plug isn't being used. The black box on the unit, this is the included tail light converter. This ensures that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. This powered module connects directly to the vehicle's battery through the wiring to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Now this unit is designed to connect quickly and easily. I do want to mention real quick that included are two fuses that will get installed in the electric junction box.
It's going to come with a 7.5 amp fuse and a 10 amp fuse. Both of those again are included. It's also going to come with your detailed installation instructions to help walk you through that process step-by-step. Basically, what you'll need to do is locate your connection point in the rear cargo area, and you're going to plug in your connector. Now this plug's going to be vehicle specific. It matches up perfectly with the port on your vehicle, and it snap-locks together for a nice, tight, secure fit.
Once you have that connected, you'll need to make a good ground connection. That's your white wire with the ring terminal attached to it. You want to get this grounded to a suitable grounding location, and you can use the included grounding screw to do that. Then you'll need to mount your converter box. There's a hole located on each side.
That allows for easy mounting by using the included cable ties. You can get that mounted to an out-of-the-way location, and then secure any excess or slack in the wiring that you have with the remaining cable ties. Now once your installation's complete, the 4-way connectors are going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. We do recommend that using a mounting bracket to keep the connector secure. Mounting brackets are sold separately. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of terminal grease on all your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself. This grease is going to help prevent corrosion, and the grease packet is included. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at 3 amps per circuit, and for the tail lights, we're looking at 6 amps per circuit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-pole Flat Trailer Connector.
