Specs:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold and some interior lining to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your trunk.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today we're going to take a look at the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2009 to 2015 Infiniti G37 sedans and Q50 models. Also, the 2010 to 2013 Infinity G25X sedans. Now on any custom fit part I always like to recommend go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if this part will work for your application. Now this harness will provide this 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters that we do sell separately.
This does connect very quickly and easily to your vehicle. There's no cutting or splicing the wires. Basically you just locate your connection points, which are in the rear cargo area behind the tail lights, plug in these connectors right here, one on each side, ground your white wire, and then run your power wire to the vehicle's battery. Now it does include this tail light converter, which is the black box right here. This is to ensure your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. Again, this is a power module.
That's why it'll connect directly to the battery, to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. All the terminals on this harness has this protective connection terminals that'll help resist corrosion. It comes with this nice dust cap for the 4-way, so all you have to do is just attach this on to your 4-way connector. You can leave it on there if you prefer. Then what's nice is when you're not plugged into a trailer, you can just take your cap, put it on over those terminals, and that'll protect those from any damage, or from the elements. It comes with everything shown here on the table.
It does have a maximum amperage on the stop and turn light circuits at three amps per circuit, and on the tail light circuit it's six amps. Now it does come with a nice set of detailed instructions that'll describe how to install everything. Briefly how this would install is you go to the rear of the vehicle, again in the rear cargo area and gain access to behind the tail lights. What you want to do is take this connector, you want to start on the driver side and take the connector that has the yellow wire in it, then disconnect your harness from behind the tail lights on the driver side and just plug this into the tail lights in the harness. Then you'll have this other connector with the extra length of green wire.
That's for the passenger side. You'll just run this over to the passenger side and do the same thing. Connect this between the harness and the tail light. Now your converter right here, you do want to attach that down to a nice, flat surface so it doesn't bounce around. You can use some of the included cable ties to attach that down. Take your white wire, it has the eyelet on it, connect that to a good, clean ground if there's one nearby. If there isn't you can use this screw and make your own ground. Then the remaining wire is the red wire with the butt connector on it. That needs to run up to your vehicle's battery. They do give you this extra length of wire. Connect to one end to the one end of the length of wire, and then run this wire all the way to the front towards where the battery is. They do give you again, some more cable ties to take up any slack in that wiring. Once you get to the front you don't want to attach this directly to the battery. You want to run it through the in-line fuse holder right here, so you'll attach this to the butt connector end, just like that. Then the other end that has the terminal on it, the eyelet, that will connect to the battery. Once you get it all connected, just pop open the in-line fuse holder, take your included 15 amp fuse, push it into the fuse holder, put the cap back on it, and your system will be ready to go. Now the other nice thing is they do include this package of terminal grease, or dielectric grease. What you want to do with that is when you go to plug in all your connectors, you want to put some of that grease on all the connections to help resist corrosion, and even recommend putting it on the 4-way when you plug into your trailer. That should do it for the review on the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector.
