Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness. The connection point for the 4-way harness is located behind the rear bumper. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness behind the interior access panel in your rear cargo area. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Easy-Peasy!
Out of the box to having
trailer lights in less than 20 minutes!

Success. I saved $220 over local Honda dealer installation. A few hacks: use only one hand to attach connector inside the back fuse box; it makes it hard to snap them together but it’s the only way. Two hands don’t fit. And don’t forget to insert the smaller fuse into the wire before before closing back fuse box. But I did this right and all lamp features work.

Perfectly. My portable trailer lights work correctly one year after I installed the wiring harness

by:

Worked perfectly, and it only took 5 minutes to install. Directions don't tell you to put the fuse in the adapter pack, but I figured that out when I found the fuse in the kit. Overall, good product and worked like a charm.

It's been a year that I have installed your product, recently I needed to use the trailer again and everything that I installed a year ago still works perfectly. It's been a pleasure buying, installing and using your products.
Thanks for everything!

The wiring harness was exactly what I needed for my 2015 Honda Pilot. The instructions were quite easy to follow step by step, and I had no issues what so ever in the installation. It took approximately less than 30 minutes to install, and when I hooked it up to my boat trailer connector, the parking, brakes and turn signal lights worked perfectly. I highly recommend this do-it-yourself product to anyone needing to save a few dollars out of pocket expense, rather than having the dealer install it for you. The dealer I purchased the vehicle from, quoted me a price of approximately $230.00 to 250.00 to have it installed by them. I saved almost $200.00 by installing the harness myself! Thank you etrailer.com! You saved me a few hard earned bucks!

I received my part on time , delivery schedule was telling me that. Then I’m very happy to share my happiness with you! Thank you for the fastest delivery! I already set-up the part on my Honda Pilot and everything run well! Once again thank you.

by:

Never got to use. Inquired last year said that this was only part for my make and model, but does not fit.

by:

Exactly as described...well packed and lightning fast shipment. Installed in 30 mins and looks like a good quality harness. The instructions made it easy...this was a fraction of what the dealership wanted to charge for the factory version.

product seems solid. Instructions were okay. Did not mention to install fuse in control wiring even though fuse was included.

Not happy that is did not come with a bracket to mount the flat four connector.

excellent product , 4 pin trailer wire harness for 2015 Honda pilot was so easy to install , took maybe 10 minutes , every thing you need comes with the kit and is fail safe. it works grate and I know that there is no better product out there ,just as good as Honda's and cost less. the only thing I could add is the plug on the pilot under the back end has a button on the top and on the bottom that need to be pushed and the plug should come right out

by:

I was a little apprehensive about attempting this install on my new vehicle, but after reading the online documentation and watching the video I felt ready to give it a try. Everything installed exactly as illustrated in the documentation, and I was ready to pull my trailer in about 40 minutes. I'm very happy with the product and the company.

I have never had any problems with the product. Thanks for the follow-up.

by:

I'm a 30 year old woman and figured I could follow the directions and install it by myself. The install was easy, but I ended up having to ask my father for help. There were only 2 issues that I had. First, I could not get the cover of the gray trailer wiring harness connecter off that is located under the vehicle. I guess I wasn't strong enough to pull it off, but my dad was able to get it off. The second issue I had was that the directions did not say to install the red 10 amp fuse into the red box located on the CURT wiring connector (or I missed that step). So I had everything hooked up correctly, but the lights wouldn't work because that fuse was not put in. Once my dad came out to figure out what was wrong, he saw it right a way. If the directions had said to put that red fuse there, I would have been able to do that.

Overall, I highly recommend this product. I saved a lot of money by doing it myself with this part, rather than taking it to the dealership to install it.

It took me less than 30 minutes with also having to chase a 20 month old around our yard. Also, highly recommend Etrailer. Their 110% price matched saved me even more. Thank you!

The best product ever, could not have been easier and the since the hook up we have had ZERO problems. The only thing I can remember being a little confusing was the ing of the RED fuse. But, we sorted it out and we are happy. Thanks for the follow up.

by:
2012HondaPilot

Installation instructions were good and easy to follow. Product has worked very well. Only unfortunate thing was the retainer tail on the rubber protective cap that covers the exterior plug. The slot in that tail tore through so it won't stay attached to the wiring when not in use. Only good luck has prevented me from losing it.

2015 HondaPilot

We had a very hard time finding a wiring kit to fit our 2015 Honda Pilot 4WD. Most local autoparts stores couldn't recommend a part for our car because it's so new, and the dealership quoted $220 plus installation for a wiring harness. This is definitely the way to go!

The package is labeled 2012-2014 Honda Pilot, but YES, it fits the 2015 Pilot perfectly. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. This kit is "plug and play." Took me about 20 minutes to install, while simultaneously watching my 3 month old daughter.

This kit is four a 4 flat wire connector, common on small utility trailers. We needed it to hook up to a 6x12 U-Haul trailer. All the lights and signal worked perfectly, and even after I paid for rush shipping, we saved $150-200 compared to dealership prices.

I highly recommend this product.

by:
2014 Acura RDX

Worked fine on a 2014 Acura RDX. Documentation does not make it clear that the fuse must be placed in the under-hood fusebox nor does it even say that a fuse might be needed there and so I had to sleuth out that information on the etrailer website. I had installed one of these before on a different car type and in my previous experience the documentation for the other part did indicate the under-hood fuse might be needed. But for someone without previous experience installation might be more challenging. I suggest that the documentation simply include the comment, "a fuse in the under-hood fusebox might be necessary" and state the fuse position. On most newer cars the fusebox indicates which is for towing.

by:
2014 HondaPilot

I ordered a trailer wiring kit for my wife's 2014 Honda Pilot. I was quoted over $260 from the Honda dealership for just the parts, i'm sure the labor would have been another $150 or more. The kit came from E-trailer quickly with easy to follow instructions. I was able to get everything installed and working in less than an hour. I saved hundreds of dollars with E-trailer.com!

by:
2012HondaPilot

Product works perfectly, and it was relatively easy to install. The only thing I would do differently is to adhere the "black box" to the sidewall in the rear compartment and then run the harness to the adjoining compartment where it plugs in. I say that, because there it a lot more room in the rear compartment. Otherwise, I am completely satisfied. I have ordered several hitches and harness from Hitch-web over the years, and they are, without a doubt, the best resource for towing equipment.

by:

  • Troubleshooting No Power to 4-Way After Trailer Wiring Install on a 2015 Honda Pilot
The easiest place to check first is the red fuse holder of the part # C56170. Is there a fuse in there? If not, that would take out the entire 4-way. If you don't have the tow package on your 2015 Honda Pilot there would be a few missing relays that you would need to install in the relay panel of the vehicle before the wiring would be completed.
