Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your Honda CR-V with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system.
Features:
Specs:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold, cargo covers, and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, open your fuse compartment and locate the fuse positions indicated in the instructions. Then insert the included fuses.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your spare tire area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Speaker 1: Today on our 2013 Honda CRV, we're going to be installing the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector; part number HM11143274.This 4-pole flat connector is going to provide you with all the necessary trailer lighting circuits that you need. It's going to have your left turn, right turn, brake lights and tail lights. This 4-pole flat connector's going to live inside your vehicle. You can coil it up and keep it tidied nice inside of your spare tire compartment. When you're ready to use it, you just uncoil it, drape it over the back, you do want to make sure you avoid your striker, so it doesn't get damaged, and you can shut your tailgate, plug it in to your trailer, and you're ready to go.It's okay that it's pinched between your lift gate and your bumper here. It's got a rubber cushion on both edges, that helps keep out moisture, so that'll allow this wire to sit in there freely without being pinched or damaged. The circuits going to be fuse protected, both at your vehicles fusebox and also back at the control unit for your 4-pole flat connector.
It doesn't require any splicing into your vehicles wiring, it just plugs inline with the connector inside your trunk area. We'll go ahead and show you how to do that now. We'll start our installation at the back of the vehicle. We'll need to access the connector behind the drivers side trim panel. So to access that, you'll need to remove your cargo cover, set that aside. We'll need to pull up the trim panel here, by removing the clips; these can be removed by pushing in the center tab to release it, then popping it out from the bottom.
There's two clips on this panel. Then the panel will now pull upward.Set that panel aside. Pull back some of our weather strip here. Now we'll need to remove the hardware holding on the side panel. Remove the 10 millimeter bolt holding onto your rear anchor, we'll set this aside.
Remove the lower pushpin, this can be done with a screwdriver, or a trim panel tool. It is recommended to use a plastic trim panel tool so as not to scratch the panel, gotta get underneath of it, remove the clip and set it aside. We'll then need to remove the other side anchor, again you'll push in the center tab and pull outward, set that aside. Remove your net. Remove the trim panel behind the rear seat release lever by pushing down on the tab at the top and pulling it outward. There'll be two screws located behind that panel that you'll need to take off, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove those. There's a release tab, located behind the panel here on the side; slide your trim panel tool or screwdriver behind it, pull outward on it.
There's another, just above that, and a third here at the top. Continue removing your weather stripping up a little higher, and you'll need to pop out pins on the upper panel, located here. This will allow you to pull it down to access our connectors back there. If you're still having a hard time getting access to the connector back there, there's another release pin located here. You can see the orange pin in the center, you can get behind that with your remover, pop it out as well, and that'll give you as much access without removing the entire panel. We can now access the small blue connector here. There's a release tab at the back, that you press in and pull outward to release the connector. We've got our blue connector disconnected. We'll take our wiring harness and plug the male end into the female end. There's a small tab at the top inside edge of this connector, that tab will line up with the release pin that you pushed in to remove it. And then the other end with the release pin here, will go back into the other end of the connector where we removed the blue one. We'll then need to mount our ground wire. There's a self-tapping screw, provided in the kit, with a hex head that will use a 1/4 inch socket. This can be mounted anywhere on the inside panels here, you just want to make sure that you're not putting it where there might be a component behind it. Due to how far we can pull the panel out, we're going to mount ours below where this pushpin is inserted on this panel right here. There's adequate space between the panel and the wall, to where it's not going to pinch the wire. Then tuck our wiring in.Now we'll need to route our 4-pole flat connector back into where our spare tire goes so we can access it when we're ready to use it. The location where we can slide it so we can access it, we can go underneath the bottom and out this side opening. We can then take our excess wiring and our control box and then zip tie it up to the existing wiring harnesses behind our panel here, so it'll be out of the way. It's now time to install our fuses and test it out. There is a fuse holder located on your control box here, it likely already is shipped with the fuse inserted, but it's a good idea to just double check by pulling back this connector here and making sure it's installed. We'll then take the 7.5 amp fuse provided in the kit, and place it in slot 10 on your drivers side fusebox. This is located under the dash on the drivers side, and slot 10 will be labeled 10 just above the opening for this slot. And now we can test out our 4-pole flat connector for proper operation. You can connect your 4-pole flat connector to your trailer, or to a suitable testing device such as the one we're using here. You can pick up a tester like this at etrailer.com.First we'll check our turn signals. We have our left turn, right turn, brake lamp and tail lamp. With everything working properly, we can reinstall all of trim panel and components in the back. When you're putting the weather stripping back in place, make sure you press it down evenly and then work the outer lip over top of any of the plastic. Feed the outside part of the weather stripping in between the plastic when pressing it in, this way it ensures it seats fully. The small pushpins with the center release tab need to be re-prepared to reinstall. To do this, you'll flip it over, you want to spread the two ends apart until it can be pushed back up. You'll push it all the way up, until it locks back in around the opening here at the bottom so we can push it back in and then push our tab back down. There's a dust cap included in the kit, you'll slide that over your connector. This will help keep out any moisture, dirt and debris from the terminals inside your 4-pole flat connector. This can now be wrapped up and stored inside your spare tire, next to your spare tire, any suitable place where you know where it is where it lives inside the vehicle. And that completes our installation of the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Connector on our 2013 Honda CRV.

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system. The harness was easy to install on my Honda CRV. I wish Honda would have pre-wired the CRV for 7 pin connector.
The Plug-in Wiring Harness is easy enough to install. For a Honda CRV it's a matter of loosening a couple of rear interior side panels to access the connection.
The reason for 4 stars is this is the second harness I have installed on my vehicle in just 4 years. I don't give it heavy use, but on a recent U-Haul rental I discovered that the signal and brake lights did not work although the tail lights did. I assume the black box "brains" has failed, since it worked (in part) to strip the wires and bypass the black box. I hope it was just a lemon the first time.

Hi Timothy, the black box converts your 3-wire system to a 2-wire system. I talked to a technician here and they are very concerned about the damage that could be caused to your vehicle without that black box. I've personally had better luck with the Tekonsha products. Part # 118561 will fit your vehicle. Would you like help getting this part returned?
Do Not Purchase this item!! I purchased this for my 2016 Honda CRV. The first one I received had a short in it and killed my car which had to be towed to a garage and costs me almost $400 after the diagnostics, towing and labor. etrailer sent me a replacement which has killed two of my DieHard batteries - I am on my third battery now which cost me more that $500. I now keep the harness disconnected when I am not towing a trailer. When I need to use it, I have to tear the side panel off the vehicle. It is very discouraging. I would not recommend this product and would give it an even lower rating than one star if I could. Should have asked for another replacement from etrailer or a different brand.

To be honest we have not heard of the harness affecting the battery like this. I would make sure that all the fuses are entered into the right place and are the correct amperage.
The one I got from etrailer didn't work. Unfortunately I found this out on the day before my planned trip, so it was too late for me to return it to etrailer. I had to buy a new one from O'reilly's - luckily they had one in stock. I already had a trailer rented in another state - so I couldn't reschedule my trip. Here's a tip: if you buy one of these, test it immediately. You can test with a multimeter or yuo can go to a Uhaul and they will test it for free. This defective unit wasn't etrailer's fault - it was just a defective unit. It happens...
We drove to southern AZ carrying two hybrid bikes. The bikes traveled well and the rack was easy to use!
Haven't installed product yet but delivery was grate. Can't wait to get it installed.
Product works perfect and the installation video extremely helpful.
poor delivery time over a week
Received wrong cable harness twice! Box labeled correct but different harness was inside.

Oh no! Our Customer Service team will be in touch so that we can get this straightened out. As a heads up there is a number that will be on the converter box that is not the part number of the harness.

I want to update my first review on 32523. I did receive the correct harness and I realized that I was looking at the lower connector and should had looked at the larger bluewhite connector behind the upper panel. Thanks to Etrailer’s support team for their help over the weekend! It now deserves a 5 star rating.
My wiring harness has held up very well after one year. We originally got it to tow a pop up camper, but since then we have used it for other trailers and it has worked perfectly. Very happy with etrailer- the company helped me with my harness and hitch, fit perfectly to my car so it was easy to install.
Install was quick and easy with basic hand tools. Instructions are clear with pictures for reference.
Great video to assist me installing the wiring harness. Went exactly step by step and it took me approximately 1 hour to complete and zero issues once installed. Thanks again and I saved over $200 by doing the hitch and wiring myself as opposed to letting [local installer] do it.
Worked great. Very helpful tech support
The plug-in simplicity of the wiring harness eliminated the time and effort to locate and splice wires compared to my previous installation experiences. The harness fit our 2016 Honda CR-V EX-L like a glove.
The video was outstanding in providing a look at the location and guided the removal of all the pins and fasteners associated with the trim. Simple, to the point, and complete - an etrailer exclusive guide!
Easy to install. It took some finagling to get the box in the right place and not in the way of the trim. I tested my brakes to make sure that they are still lighting up the tail lights, which they are. Now I just need to tow something...
Installation was easy and the harness works as it should. I ended up using some double sided command tape to secure the box to the metal around the wiring, as the zip ties by themselves were a bit awkward and not the best design. But, all works well. :)
As always, e trailer was fast and accurate and significantly cheaper than local auto part stores.
Excellent hitch, easy to install.
Instructions were excellent and works well. No problems

Install was easier than I expected and have had no problems. At first, I was concerned about having it plug and wiring inside the vehicle, but it is actually easy to use, not exposed to the weather and ever have had a poor connection.
Look carefully. Some connectors are not under the lower panel. Look up behind the upper panel that goes around the back window.
Have not used the product yet but if it is like everything else I have purchased from etrailer, I have sure I will be happy with it. I have confidence in Noah that he provided me with all the information I needed to make the correct choice as to what product would suit my needs.
It's fine but double sided tape for the box would have made the install quicker and easier.
very straightforward DIY install in 2016 Honda CRV, thanks to the great video!
Outstanding and easy to install. Rapid shipping and good customer follow-up. Will use eTrailer again!
All components fit perfectly and the [installation] video provided detailed and accurate instructions.
My only suggestion would be to modify the cable assembly after the adapter and before the trailer 4 prong with a smaller round connector and bung to get the wiring outside the vehicle without running it out the hatch.
Easy to install and works, what more can you ask for?

It stopped working. I plugged in my trailer the day before leaving for a road trip and the brake lights and right turn signal was not working correctly. I did not have time to replace it and had to switch to a different tow vehicle.
