Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed within the spare tire compartment of your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Bought this for our'11 CR-V and was able to install it without too much trouble. Getting behind the plastic interior panels was a hassle but that's the vehicle's fault. The job would be easier for someone with smaller hands but it went together well and works fine. I did not drill a hole in the body to run the wiring under the vehicle to the hitch, but left it inside the rear area and just route the wiring out the hatch opening when I need to plug in.

I’ve purchased a Hitch and wiring from etrailer.com for both of my cars and installed them myself. One being a Honda CR-V and the other a Mazda CX-9. If you are mechanically inclined it’s a breeze. etrailer.com also has video’s on their site for help of ease for installation. Also purchased the wiring kit for my Honda and installed that.
I’m in the process of ordering the wiring kit for my Mazda CX-9
Very good company for all your trailering needs.
Prices are competitive

It plugged directly into my 2010 Honda CRV 8 pin vehicle connector. I decided to route the wires under the bumper cover like the Honda factory trailer harness for a cleaner install. I followed the Honda Trailer Hitch Kit P/N 08L92-SWA-101 installation instructions for removing the bumper cover and routing the wires. The only problem was I had to cut the wires about 6 " past the controller so I could pull the wires through the vehicle panel hole (the 4 pin trailer connector wouldn't fit through the hole). I just spliced them back together in the left rear cargo area opening (see pictures).

Possibly the easiest harness to install.

The product was very easy to install following the detailed video instructions provided by Etrailer.com

I ordered the wiring harness for my 2011 Honda CRV. The wiring harness was perfect, very easy to install, and works great! I am very pleased with this product.

A year later this is still working. It was simple to install for anyone who considers themselves "handy." Installing this is the sort of project I would give someone to do under supervision for training.

Very easy and quick installation with great video instructions!

I like the price (about 1/2 of Honda) of this hitch compared to other products. We have a very light kayak trailer to pull so the hitch construction does not appear to be vigorous enough for it's 1,000lb plus rating! It is clearly sufficient for pulling our fully loaded Kayak Trailer (with 3 kayaks and 2 bicycles) but total max weight is less than 350lbs.

I do NOT like the electrical connection dangling out from under our rear door!! This is ugly, prone to leaks into the cabin, causes door seal deterioration and very unprofessional install - looking. I used a 3/4 inch drill to put a hole in the bottom of our spare tire holder to route the electrical wiring and connector. The area is a thin steel structure and easily penetrated. To seal it, I put Duct Tape on the inside and outside then coated both sides with the black-tarry undercoat available at AutoZone. My mods, notwithstanding the original installation, cost about $15 plus my time.

This installation is in our 2010 Honda CRV and we have driven to FL and back (1,300 miles) with our trailer. It pulls very nicely ...but as may be expected, the CRV's gas mileage suffered. Also, on long or steep hills, the engine worked quite hard to overcome the additional drag (from the high profile) of the trailer and cargo. Although I extended the tongue by 4 feet (to clear the kayak) there is no tendency of trailer sway or bounce excessively and no hitch shifting or looseness.

No problems. My install mod still intact and tight, no leaks. You should consider a better trailer electrical plug install that does NOT hang out the back door seal

Comes with vehicle specific instructions. Very easy to install. Plug-n-play!

I installed this along with hitch # 24792 on my 2007 CR-V. The installation video was very helpful. The wiring works well. It's really nice to install a wiring harness that plugs right into the vehicle's connector without having to splice wires, etc. I would definitely buy this wiring harness (and the hitch) again. I use the wiring harness and hitch to pull a boat trailer with a 14 foot aluminum boat to go fishing.

After one year the wiring harness and the hitch work just fine. I would definitely buy this wiring harness and the hitch again.

Selecting the proper hitch for my car was very easy. The ordering process was straight forward. The order tracking kept me informed during the entire shipment. Before the product arrived I watched installation videos on YouTube. These made the installation trouble free. Once the products arrived it took me 1 hour to install the trailer hitch, and 45 minutes to install the wiring harness. Everyting is working just as I had hoped.

Pulling the plastic sidewalls out in my new CRV had me a bit worried after watching the youtube vidio. The package included step by step directions including pictures. The instructional pictures were actually pictures of a CRV not a generic one size fits all vehicle. This wiring harness plugged in to an existing connection that Honda had pre wired and it looked exactly like the pictures. 15 minutes tops. It was so easy I had to double check to make sure I didn't miss anything. First time I've ever plugged in a harness, otherwise I was usually under the vehicle and cutting into wires and taping them.

Never received it. I was told by etrailer, that I have to wait 14 days for the USPS investigation to be over with. Then they will make a decision. I asked them for the tracking number and they (etrailer) never supplied it to me. So, I don't have the cable and I'm out $[XX] I can't tow anything because I'm missing that cable

I purchased the draw-tite hitch and the wire harness for my 2007 Honda CR-v. The items were shipped at no cost and what I ordered is what I received. The order was delivered on time and complete...absolutely no issues! I have ordered previously from etrailer and I have never been disappointed. etrailer prices beat another site and an auction site and included easy to follow instructions, this was a very easy installation which took less than an hour to install. I will continue to use etrailer as my choice for equipment and parts in the future. THANK YOU!!

I finally installed the 'T-connector wiring kit' in my '09 CR-V. It went well, installed in about an hour following the clear instructions. Have not been able to test the install yet because I don't have a trailer, but I don't expect any problems - will contact you if I have. However, I still don't understand the 'T-connector ' description, there is no 'T' involved just a straight connector into the CR-V's wiring system.....Terry L!

Easy install. Have a trim removal tool handy.

by:

Trailer hitch looks great on the car. We purchased a utility trailer last Saturday and we had no issues.

by:

Because the attachment points were so rusted out, and my exhaust pipe also, I had the hitch installed by a friend of mine who is a mechanic. It went well, and the wiring was easy as could be. Very, very happy!

Installation videos really helped during installation. They were a real selling point on purchasing through etrailer. It looks really good on the CR-V, in pictures, yet seeing it on the vehicle is even better. Thank you etrailer!

Easy install and clear instructions. I purchased this wiring harness along with a receiver hitch. I did not watch an instructional video for the wiring harness, but did for the receiver installation. Really really really appreciate all the instructional and review videos etrailer has for their products they sell. It is what made me buy from them.

Purchased the custom wiring harness and tow hitch for my 2011 Honda CR-V. Both products shipped together and arrived in good condition quickly. Wiring harness connector on the CR-V found on left Drivers Side above fender well taped to the other wiring so had to cut the tape but connector went on easily. A word of caution on the hitch - the M10 bolt holes were so corroded I could not get the bolts to even enter the holes. Only solution was to get a tap and re-thread the holes. Be aware this is not an etrailer problem but Honda should have put nylon plugs into these holes at the factory. The tap I needed was an M10-1.25 which is a bit of an oddball and was not in my tap and die set. Finally found one $7 at Ace Hardware. After I essentially cut new threads the hitch went on easily with no assistance needed. Bottom line - make sure your CR-V bolt holes are clean and usable before you try the installation or tap the holes open before hand.

arrived fast! Always get my, "Towing Stuff" from etrailer.
I have the same hitch on my wife's 2016 CRV, so, it was a natural I do the same on my 2011.
Was easy to install, (no plastic splash guard to cut this time)!
I didn't "enlarge the mounting holes on the frame, put socket close to the same size and "manhandled" the socket to get the "Smidgen" larger.
The hitch went up.... without a hitch! :)
The wiring harness was a breeze to hook up as well.
Another happy customer here!

  • Can Flat Tow Wiring Harness for 2011 Honda CR-V be Connected to Trailer Wiring Harness
That is an excellent question. The difference between a trailer wiring harness like the Curt # C55106 and a flat tow wiring harness like the Hopkins # HM56300 (similar to the Curt you mentioned) for your 2011 Honda CR-V is that the trailer wiring harness sends power to trailer lights while the flat tow harness receives power from your motorhome. So even though they connect to the same circuits, they serve different purposes so they aren't interchangeable. For a complete flat towing setup...

  • Tow Ready and Curt Wiring Harness Comparison for a 2011 Honda CR-V
The Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # 118427, and the Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness, # C55106, are basically the same harness from two different manufacturers. The main difference between these two harnesses is that Curt uses surface-mount technology (SMT) which is newer technology from the older through-hole technology. The Curt harness also has higher amp ratings of 3 amps per circuit for the stop and turn lights and 7.5 amps per circuit for the tail lights. The Tow Ready harness...

Some hitches do provide a small bracket for mounting a wiring harness such as a 4-pole flat connector like that on # C55106. However, mounting any trailer connector outside the vehicle does tend to expose it to the elements and potential damage. Water, salt and road debris do tend to speed up wear and tear and the potential for corrosion that can lead to electrical connectivity problems. When our tech installed this harness in a 2010 CR-V, please see the linked video, he did not route...

  • Is Drilling Required For the Installation of the Curt Wiring Harness on a Honda CR-V
The Curt Wiring Harness # C55106 you referenced is intended for a 2007-2011 Honda CR-V. I have provided a link to the installation instructions for this particular harness. The wiring harness will not require any drilling as the connector is installed in the inner trim area of your vehicles rear cargo area, however you will need to shoot in a self-tapping screw during the installation. • Best Hitch for a 2011 Honda CR-V
I pulled the manual for your 2011 Honda CRV. It says your vehicle tops out at 1,500 lbs for towing capacity so paying extra for a 4,500 lbs capacity hitch like item # 75547 doesn't make sense. Adding this high of a capacity hitch won't give you anymore than the 1,500 lbs your CRV is rated for. The best hitch for both value and ability is going to be the etrailer Hitch item # e39AR.
