Features to know about

Plug and Play Convenience: Custom Fit 7-Way Connector

Imagine a world where you never have to cut, splice, or tap wires again. With the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, installing a 7-way, RV-style trailer connector on your vehicle is incredibly simple. This custom-fit harness plugs directly into your car's existing tow connector, making installation a breeze. After plugging it in, just route the 7-way end along the inside of your bumper. It's effortlessly secured with zip-ties and includes a protective cover to shield the connections when not in use. No hassle, no complex wiring - just quick and easy setup.

Power Up Without Worry: Amperage Capacity

When hauling a trailer, the last thing you want is to worry about overpowering your system. With this harness, rest assured that your trailer's signal lights, tail lights, and brakes are powered correctly and safely. It features a maximum amperage of 10 amps for stop/turn and tail lights, and 30 amps for the power circuit. Even if you’re towing a trailer with 3 axles and 6 brakes, this setup is reliable with its 20 amps capacity per trailer brake circuit. It's designed for the long haul, giving you peace of mind with every mile.

A Solution for Every Vehicle: No Converter Needed

For those with specific makes and models like the Ford Explorer, this harness is a game-changer. It doesn’t require a converter, making it compatible and efficient for vehicles without factory towing packages. It’s engineered to fit the unique wiring of select vehicles, eliminating the need for any additional equipment. This makes it a tailored solution, especially appreciated by owners of Police Interceptor utility models and other specific configurations looking for a hassle-free upgrade.

Essential Accessories at Your Fingertips: Mounting Bracket 18138

Tired of loose or dangling wires? Although the mounting bracket 18138 is sold separately, it is highly recommended to keep everything secure and tidy. Once you've finished routing the connector, this bracket ensures your setup stays put during your travels. It's a simple, yet vital accessory that enhances the efficiency and reliability of your trailer wiring system. So even if your exploration takes a bumpy path, your wiring harness stays exactly where it should be.

Robust Electrical Connection: Protective Measures to Prevent Corrosion

It's crucial to maintain a corrosion-free connection to ensure longevity and performance. For that reason, a small amount of grease is recommended on every electrical connection. Applying this to both the plug on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself isn’t just a suggestion – it’s a smart preventative measure. This simple step can protect your investment from the elements, keeping your trailer lighting dependable year after year.

Secure Fit for Every Adventure: Custom Fit with No Guesswork

Designed to integrate seamlessly into your vehicle's existing wiring framework, this kit provides a precise fit. Forget about the generic, one-size-fits-all solutions; this harness molds to your car's specifications. With this custom fit, you'll enjoy minimal setup time and maximum results. It's perfect for the DIY car enthusiast who values precision and functionality in every installation.

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located beneath the rear of your vehicle, along the passenger's-side frame rail. After plugging in the connector, route the 7-way end of the harness along the inside of your bumper toward the center of your vehicle.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. Use a mounting bracket (18138 - sold separately) to keep the connector secure.

Note

  • Drilling may be required.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Quickly and easily install a 7-way, RV-style trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. Connector plugs directly into existing tow connector on your vehicle - no cutting, splicing or tapping required.

The wiring kit was the perfect fit for my vehicle. A simple installation with very few tools. The instructions were perfect and although they differed from an online resource, they were correct. Etailer did a great job working with this manufacturer and offering the best quality for the best price.

by:
2015 FordExplorer

The product works as described and appears to be quality construction, however the wiring information is imprinted incorrectly on the connector vs the paper instructions.

You need to follow the wiring diagram on the paper instructions and ignore what it says on the connector itself.

Wiring harness fit perfect and had plenty of length to place the plug where I wanted it. I have several Ford Explorers in my fleet and this has been the go to place for parts.

This harness fits and works perfectly. Hardest part was cleaning the OEM connector of all the road grime on it.

by:

The wire diagram was not correct and luckily I have knowledge of trailer wiring and had to make some adjustments to wire posts. Also there were no mounting bracket or bolts. I wouldn’t mind paying a little more if that was in the kit. Other than that it is quality made. Plug to vehicle was very simple but other side was difficult. 2 hours installation

by:
2016 FordExplorer

Easy install , looks great.

by:

Just follow the wire diagram when installing. Worked as intended.

by:

Kit was fairly easy to install, but the one issue I did have was that you need to IGNORE the color-code markings on the connector itself, and ONLY follow the wiring diagram that comes with the kit! It was a bit confusing to see that the wiring pattern given on the directions was different than what was marked on the connector.

Follow the directions for your specific vehicle, and you should be OK!

by:

Works exactly as described. It wasn't too difficult to install either.

by:

This is the second Hitch i purchased from your company I noticed how well it was made The wiring harness easy to install directions are great the wiring is put together well

by:

Works correctly although there was no wireing instructions with it and the package was open inside the box they sent it in. I would buy it again but I feel like it should have had some instructions at the very least.

by:

This harness is a plug and play type no cutting of wires. Easy install. Service and delivery time from trailer was great as usual. Excellent company to do business with and good prices too.

by:

This trailer was exactly what we were looking for. Well built and the price was very affordable. Good job by sales rep too.

by:
2017 FordExplorer

Shipping was fast, did not realize the mount bracket was not included. Now I have to pay shipping for a 5 dollar part when it could have been part of my original order.

by:

Instructions were well written, I was able to install the harness without issue in about 30 minutes and so far it works great.

by:

This was a good installation, I would recommend, if you are mechanically inclined then install it yourself.

by:
2016 FordExplorer

Trailer seem to never pinned out right so this allowed me to not only pin it the way I wanted, but it allowed me to use ilets that would be a lot more robust. I was happy with the quality and how easy it went on.

  • Easy to Install Brake Controller and 7-Way Recommendation for 2017 Ford Explorer
I have a super easy brake controller solution for your 2017 Ford Explorer with the Curt Echo brake controller part # C51180 which plugs into an active 7-way and once synced to a smartphone is ready to tow. For an easy to install 7-way kit all you need then is the part # C56306 which plugs into the square trailer wiring connector at the rear of your vehicle. I attached an install video for this that shows it installed on a 2017 Explorer just like yours. Other installs will require hardwiring...

I've attached two other photos to show you what the harness should look like and the connection that you will be making. You are not missing anything on your 2018 Ford Explorer. You will remove the cap from that harness and plug the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56306 into the connector. Be sure to use the cap on the 2nd connector since you do not have the other wiring harness that is on some Explorers. If you don't have a trailer hitch then you won't have the tow package therefore I recommend using the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56172 if you only need a 4-way or part # C56306 for a 7-way.
