Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your Ford Edge with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system.
Features:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today we're going to take a look at the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four way flat trailer connector. This is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2015 and newer Ford Edge Sport and Titanium models with LED lights. Now, on any custom fit part, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it will show you if this will work for your application. This harness provides this four way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is compatible with five pole, six pole, and seven pole adapters that we do sell separately. This whole assembly and harness will connect very quickly and easily.
Basically all you have to do is locate the connection points, which are behind the tail lights on your vehicle. Plug in these connectors, one on each side. Ground your white wire, and then run your power wire to your vehicle's battery. It does include this tail light converter, this black box right here. This is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. It is a power module, that's why you'll connect it directly to the battery.
The reason you do that is to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. They do use protective connection terminals on these harnesses to resist corrosion. The other nice thing, it comes with this nice dust cover for your four way. What you want to do with that is just go ahead and attach it to the four way plug. You can leave it attached, you don't have to remove it.
Then when you're not plugged into your trailer, just go ahead and put the cover over those terminals. It helps protect the terminals from any damage or from the elements. It also comes with everything else shown here on the table. I'm going to go through each part to show you where it connects. But basically, when you go to install this, what you want to do is start at the rear, again, that's just behind your tail lights, and start on the driver side. You'll take the connector right here that has the yellow wire.
That's for the driver side. Unplug the harness from the tail light, and then plug this in between the harness and the tail light. Then go over to the passenger side, and you'll take the other connector here. The green wire is for the passenger side. Run this length of wire all the way over to the passenger side, plug this in behind the tail light. You converter box right here, you do want to attach that to a nice flat surface so it doesn't move around. They do give you some extra cable ties to put through the openings right here to hold it into place. Now the wire here with the four way on it, you just want to run that out the back towards the trailer. Then you'll have two wires remaining that need to be connected. You have the white wire with the eyelid on it, that's for your ground. Connect this to a good clean ground if there's one nearby. If not, they include this grounding screw that you can make your own ground. Then the last wire, the red wire here, that's the power wire. You want to run this to the vehicle's battery at the front of the car, and they give you an extra length of wire to do that. You take the power wire with the butt connector on it, attach it to that, run this all the way up the front. You don't want to connect this to the battery directly. You want to run it through this inline fuse holder first. Take the side with the butt connector, attach it to that wire, and then the other side with the eyelid on it, that's where you'll connect to the battery. Once you connect that to the battery, pop open your fuse holder. Take your included 15 amp fuse, put it in your fuse holder, put your cap back on it, and your system is all ready to go. Now, they do give you some extra cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring, and they do give you a little packet here of terminal grease or dielectric grease. What's nice about that is, any time you make any wire or electrical connections, you want to put some grease on that. Even when you plug your four way in, put a little dielectric grease on that. That should do it for the review on the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four way flat trailer connector.

Good kit. I don’t like that I had to run a power wire under the vehicle. But other than that was an easy install.
