Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Great product & support!
Lacking clear instructions, pictures with perspective and time estimations.
works like a charm
Fit was perfect ! As always etrailer provided great service!
I am now on my 3rd light module. The first two shorted out internally without blowing the fuse at the battery, now my trunk area perminately smells of electrical fire.
Each time I replaced 100% of the wiring to rule out a short somewhere else, which at least it is an easy install on a 2015+ Ford Edge. The module I have now however has outlived the other two by far. Bad batch maybe.

Typically, a taillight converter shorting out is caused by a short circuit somewhere in the trailer wiring. Id recommend very carefully examining the wiring on the trailer. Begin at the trailer connector, look for corrosion or for damaged pins. Check the point where the wiring meets the 4-pole plug, its a common failure point. Trace each circuit rearward until it connects at its fixture. Look for loose connections or for bent or pinched wires. Make sure theres no cracks or worn spots in the trailer wiring that would allow the copper wire to short out to the trailer frame. Make sure the connection at each lamp is secure. If the short isnt located and repaired, each subsequent taillight converter thats installed will continue to short out. Ive linked to help articles that explain various troubleshooting strategies.
I installed the Curt Trailer Wiring Harness C56292 on my 2017 Ford Edge. The instructions were good, but watched the video for another brand etrailer sells (begins with a "T"), which was the best help. I decided to run the battery wire inside the car, which was really easy. Found out from a blog for people who install subs in Ford Edges, that there is a rubber grummet access thru the fire wall, located on the driver side under the carpet about 4 inches left of the steering column. Ford even has a cutout thru the insulation under the carpet. I pulled the grummet, shined a light thru the hole and it comes out behind the battery. I ran a pull wire from inside the car towards the battery, and pulled the new battery wire back thru. I purchased auto trim removal tools for $9, and this made the job easy! The other variation I did is I decided to run the trailer hookup wires outside thru the rear grummet, and mounted a CURT 58300 Connector Socket Mounting Bracket (cost about $5) thru a hole under the bumper which was already there. Now the plug is always ready! Lights work perfectly. I tested the lights using a Trailer 4-Way Circuit Tester (about 5$). Yes I could have used a volt meter, but I don't know how many times in the past I was renting a trailer and the lights didn't work. They always blame my vehicle, and now I can prove the trailer is the issue, since I can carry the small plug in my glove box.
Easy to install. Mostly plug and play. Hardest part was running the power wire up to the battery. I watched a YouTube video as I installed the wire harness. Made installation a lot easier!
Came quick
Delivered on time no problems
another great kit from curt. i install many at my shop. your need to have some good skills working on cars to do this kit
Plug and Play. Works as described. Simple install
THIS IS EASY TO INSTALL AS ITS BASICLY PLUG AND PLAY. THE DIRECTIONS ARE EASY TO FOLLOW - TAKES ABOUT 20 TO 30 MINUTES. HAVE DONE THIS TO MY OTHER FORD EDGE.
No problem installing. Instructions and videos help a lot.
Worked perfectly. There was one part missing which you promptly sent.
This was more involved installing then the hitch but works as it should. Thanks
looks heavy duty and weel made.have not installed yet
