Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring 20023 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Draw-Tite 7-Way pre-wired car connector with the seven foot lead. This part will allow remote trailer wiring in your pickup truck bed or other hard to access areas when towing a fifth wheel or goose neck trailer. This part is an exact replacement for your factory OEM connectors. The seven way right here has a nice durable plastic shell and on the lid uses a nice weather tight seal. It does include the mounting bracket for mounting the 7-Way and the hardware. Now on the wiring harness itself, the wire ends right here, the gauge on these wires on the white and the black is going to be ten gauge, on the blue is going to be 12 gauge, and on the remaining brown, red, yellow and green wires are 14 gauge. Basically these wire leads will tap into your vehicles wiring and the other end right here will plug into you 7-Way. The seven foot lead of this harness will allow you to locate this 7-Way wherever you need it.

Now it includes everything shown here on the table. Again it includes the seven foot pre-wired trailer wiring harness, the 7-way plug, the 7-way mounting bracket, the mounting hardware for that bracket, the wire connectors for connecting it to the vehicle wiring, some cable ties to take up any slack in wiring, and a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install it. That should do it for the review on the Draw-Tite 7-Way pre-wired car connector with the seven foot lead.

I just finished test fitting all the components of the system and found it very easy and enjoyable. The only problem I noticed was the packaging was far from robust enough to handle the product. Three of the four box's were severely damaged and were only held together by a mass amount of packing tape which made opening tough. I should have taken pictures my mistake, but wanted too make sure all components were present and accounted for which they were. Great system and was a pleasure to deal with, thanks for the great product and will sent pictures when installed in truck... 391530

The wiring harness came with everything I needed to wire up my 1997 Silverado for my new bass boat. It took an hour or two to find all the wires I needed and tap into them. The only thing i would change if I could would be to include more zip ties in a larger size. Other than that I have hauled my boat a few times and all of the wiring works great along with the trailer brakes. If I ever have another truck I need to wire a seven pin connector to I will buy this kit again. 384600

Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • Installation of 7-Way Trailer Connector on 1996 Ford F-250
  • We do not have a plug in solution for those connectors under the rear of your truck bed, if you wish to utilize those existing connectors you would need to obtain the trailer connector from your Ford dealer. This being said, you can cut those connectors off, and hard wire in a 7-way connector pretty easily. I would recommend using the Hopkins Multi-Tow Trailer Connector, part # HM48470. The blue and orange wires attached to the one connector feed the brake controller output and the 12-volt...

  • Replacement 7-Way Recommendation for a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with Factory 7-Way
  • I have a solution for you, but it will require a little wiring and it is not the Trailer Wiring Harness part # 20137. There currently isn't a plug and play replacement 7-way available for your 2006 Toyota Tacoma so the best recommendation I can make would be to get the 7-Way Prewired Car Connector part # 20023. You will need to remove your current 7-way and bracket and cut the wires from the harness and wire them by function to the wires of the # 20023. I attached a picture that shows...

  • For your 1995 GMC K2500 with 37 inch wide frame, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V XD - 2" # C15325. This is a confirmed fit for your truck and is a heavy duty hitch rated for 2400 lbs tongue weight and 16000 lbs gross towing weight. With weight distribution, that towing capacity rating increases to 17000 lbs. These ratings may be higher than your truck capacities, so you will want to make sure to check your owners manual. • If you had the long bed (8 feet) model, the set-up you propose would work just fine. However, if you have the short bed you'll need to use the sliding version of the Titan, # RP30870 in order to prevent the rear of the cab from being struck by the fifth wheel. Normally, you'd keep the hitch slid all the way forward to keep the trailer pin weight centered in front of the rear truck axle. During low speed maneuvering, you'll slide the hitch to the rearward position, to allow maximum clearance...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 1995 Chevrolet C2500 Turbo Diesel
  • According to my research, the 1995 Chevrolet C2500 models had a towing capacity of 10000lbs, but you will want to check with a dealer to confirm this. If your truck has a 6-1/2 foot bed, I would recommend the Pro Series 15k fifth-wheel trailer hitch # PS30094, which includes a slider unit. Short bed trucks require a hitch with a slider to get the necessary clearance for tight turns. If your truck has an 8 foot bed, you would not need a hitch with a slider. In this case, I would...

I took a photo that shows this seal for you to view. At this time we do not carry a replacement seal for the factory connector. The Hopkins Gooseneck Harness will plug inline with the factory harness where it plugs into the rear of the 7-way. • Compatibility of Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch with Long Bed Pickup
  • You are correct that a sliding 5th wheel hitch is necessary for short bed applications. A sliding hitch can still be used in a long bed so long as the hitch remains in the forward locked position at all times. This is required to keep the trailer's king pin weight over or slightly forward of the rear axle centerline. If the trailer's tongue weight were any further back than that your head lights could start pointing upward and your rear end sag. For your current truck, the 1994 Chevrolet...

  • Recommendation of Gooseneck Versus Bumper Pull Towing for 20 Foot Enclosed Trailer
  • If I had to choose between a fair-sized bumper pull or a gooseneck trailer, I'd choose the gooseneck. Hands down. Every time. With a gooseneck trailer, the pin weight is applied to the vehicle directly over or just in front of the rear axle of the truck which will provide much more stability which is why I'd recommend going that route. On the downside, a gooseneck trailer will cost more than a bumper pull. A bumper pull trailer will probably need a weight distribution set-up if the fully...
