Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado

Today on our 2005 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab, we're going to install part number 30955. This is a replacement multi-tow 7-way and 4-way trailer connector. We're going to replace the original 7-pole connector That came with the vehicle. This is how it came to us, so you can see that the connector has seen better days. To remove our 7-pole connector, there's a tab right here that we push down and pull out. Sometimes there may be a little gray tab or a lock that fits around this.

You just push down in the center of it and just push it out of the way, then put it back when you're done. We don't have that one, so we'll just push down on this tab and pull it apart. This is our new part that's going to replace the OEM connector. This will simply just plug right back in, like this. However, we're going to take this and route it down towards the bottom of our hitch, toward our pre-existing mounting bracket. This is the bracket that comes with the part.

However, we're going to use the pre-existing one. A good location for this if you wanted to install it, would be right here. It does come with the hardware to install the bracket. However, self-tacking screws will work best in this application here. Let's go ahead and route our wire harness down.

Before we add our new connector, we'll go ahead and put some dilectic grease on the contacts to help protect them. We're using part number 11755. Let's go ahead and route this through our bracket. We'll go ahead and make our connection. We'll just push the two together, make sure they line up OK, and squeeze them until they click. Now we'll use the hardware that comes with the kit, to attach our 7-pole to the bracket.

With our hardware loosely assembled, we'll go ahead and tighten it down, using a flat-blade screw driver. Typically, this star washer on the back will give enough grip; we don't need a wrench. If you do, a 3/8 will work just fine. We'll go ahead and route our wire harness up and out of the way, make sure it's safe and secure with some zip ties. Zip ties don't come with the kit, so you might want to go ahead and get extra long zip ties to go around the hitch. In just a few minutes we've got a new 7-pole connector plus a 4-pole connector installed on our truck. That will do it for our replacement multi-tow 7-way and 4-way trailer connector on our 2005 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab. .

WORK GOOD, FIT RIGHT UP, THANKS. IT DIDN`T TAKE CARE OF THE PROMBLE.

Just the right part replacement I needed. Very fast email shipping notice and good delivery time.

by:

Great product, timely shipping and I was followed up with via email after the product was delivered. Couldn't have chosen a better place to purchase from!

Plug did not snap into vehicle outlet as tight as I would like, but overall works fine.

2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Excellent, direct OEM replacement for my 2001 Chevy Silverado, at a very reasonable price. Product arrived at my home within 3 business days of ordering. Nice job E-trailer !!!!

by:

Perfect fit and excellentThe wiring harness was exactly the part I was looking for. It was well built and very easy to install.

by:
2004 GMC Sierra

no issues with the install, connector on the part matched the plug for my o.e.m. trailer wiring harness, all trailer light worked as they should.

by:

Connection was spot on and seems decent quality. Very easy install. Only two things I wish were better would be if the wires came wrapped and the bracket was a slightly heavier gauge steele.

by:

etrailer had what we needed. At times it is not easy locating accessory parts on vehicles not factory installed. Easy to navigate site to find and compare the exact parts we were looking for.

by:

Great fit works good has 7way rv plug and the regular flat 4 plug no need for adapters to lose or have stolen.

Been using this plug for a year now still working great

by:

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver was easy to install and has worked just fine in pulling my several trailers. For the price, an excellent deal. The 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness Connector by Hopkins was a disappointment because the cap that doubles as a dust cover and latch to the adapter has come off and missing after a few months. This cap is not replaceable, the whole connector would have to be replaced.

by:

Product is ok, I was hoping for something a little more durable, seems cheap. I guess we will find out

by:

Looks like a good quality plug, the only thing I can knock it for is there’s no bracket for securing it to the round tube on the receiver.

by:
2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Product was exactly what I was looking for and thanks to the hitch system previously purchased, it was fabricated for a perfect fit. Also, the first one that came in was busted up a little, etrailer immediately sent a new one out with no hassle. Great company.

by:
2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Perfect! I used this on a single cab Chevy Silverado 1500. Plugged into factory trailer lights near spare tire, mounted it up, plugged in trailer and everything worked just like it should. My truck does not have a spare tire so I removed the spare tire keyhole mount and cut some of the bumper to fit the adapter. My truck did not require a ECM/PCM flash of any kind, although I hear some vehicles may have to.

by:

I installed this today. Took around 90 minutes but part of that was learning how to get the spare out of the way. I drilled two holes in the bottom of the bumper because of where I wanted the connector to be placed. All necessary hardware came with the unit. This was very easy to do after watching etrailer's How To video. Good job guys, great product.

by:
2006 Chevrolet Silverado

in my case I have to say that first look at YouTube from there I got the video with the description of the process and the number of the part of there just went to etrailer.com I put the # alone went out it was really easy to send fantastic just wait 4 days in regular shipment for the installed only you see that plug it in thank you I hope that some more will serve..

by:

Nice product ,Easy to install and then worked as supposed to . I installed in bumper as opposed to the add on bracket that came with it ,made for a easier way to plug in trailer cord.

by:

Cathy T. was very good help. She set me up with the correct parts for our 2001 Chevy so we can have a 7 prong plug in at the bumper and in the box.
We got rid of the cobbled up mess that started giving us trouble and now everything works great. The plug and play took me about 1 1/2 hours to complete. We will do business again if needed. Thanks again Cathy T. and etrailer!

2006 Chevrolet Silverado

I bought this 7 way trailer connector to replace a broken one on my 2006 Chevy 2500HD. It was an easy install and only took a few minutes to complete. I tested it with my trailer connected and all works fine.
The shipping was super fast.
Thanks , etrailer.

by:

The product was an exact one-for-one replacement. However, I ended up having to replace the female connector due to corrosion. This took a bit of time. The result was all new connections that work fine. Thanks for all your assistance.

  • Recommended 7-Way and 4-Way Combo Connector that Can Be Used at the Same Time
Yes, it will! However, the Curt Replacement OEM USCAR Trailer Connector item # C42JR won't let you use both the 7-Way and the 4-Way at the same time. You will need to install the Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way item # 30955 to use both at the same time. Both of these 7-way/4-way combos use the USCAR connector which is what all vehicle's that come with a 7-way connector from the factory use. I have linked an installation video we did to help you get the Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way item # 30955 set up.

  • Installing a Brake Controller on a 2007 Chevy Avalanche With or Without a Factory Tow Package
Yes, that is correct. Some model 2007 Chevy Avalanches have what is called a factory tow package that comes with a 7-Way connection at the rear of the vehicle, and/or wiring already ran under the dash for a brake controller. Some models do not have this factory tow package. You will be able to tell if you have a functioning 7-Way trailer plug at the rear of the vehicle. No matter which system you have, installation of a brake controller will be fairly simple on your vehicle. Even without...

You are correct, the 2017 Toyota Prius that you have can only be towed on a dolly behind a motorhome. Good news is it won't put miles on the vehicle since the drive wheels will be on the dolly. The install time is considerably less, you can easily transfer the towing setup to a different vehicle unlike base plate kits that are vehicle specific, and you don't put miles on the vehicle.
