Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located above the muffler on the driver's side. You will need to lower the muffler to access the wiring harness. After plugging in the connector, route the 7-way end of the harness along the inside of your bumper toward the center of your vehicle.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness Installation - 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, we're gonna take a look at and show you how to install the Curt T-Connector vehicle wiring harness with a seven way trailer connector. Part number is C56393. Here's what the wiring kit's gonna look like installed. As you can see, we've got our seven way trailer connector there. Something I like about this kit, we've got a number gasket all the way around here. That helps to keep out any moisture or any debris that might get in there and eventually cause corrosion.

See how we've mounted it up to our bracket and the bracket gear that was already welded to the hitch. This is what your kit's gonna look like when you pull it out of the package. We're gonna have the connector. It's gonna run to our factory plug. That's gonna take our signals through a standard U.S. car connector.

It's gonna go right into the back of our seven pole plug. Your seven pole connector is designed to give you your four pole flat signals and a few extras. Your four pole flat signals will of course be your running lights, your left turn and brake signal, your right turn and brake signal, and your ground. Upgrading to a seven pole is also gonna give you your backup signal and your reverse light signal. Gives you 12 volt power, and if you decide to use a brake controller, it's gonna give you that connection as well.Your kit is not gonna have a bracket to attach the seven pole to your vehicle.

This is part number PK12711U. This is our seven pole bracket. It's gonna come with the hardware to attach your seven pole here on the front. If you don't have an attachment point already on your hitch, you can pick up part number C57202. That's the universal long bracket, it'll make for an easy attachment point. Now, the first step in our installation is gonna be to remove the rear cover here.

Just gonna have the two tabs that you'll turn. Pop that section down. That'll come off for us. The next thing we need to do is find our plug. It's gonna be right in behind this panel, right up against the back of the vehicle. So you can reach in here, you should be able to get your hand on it right above your exhaust. It has a Christmas tree fastener or a push pin fastener, so typically if you'll just pull out on that, we can get it go come down. Just like that. You're gonna pull down on the red tab. Press in on the black tab. And then wiggle it to separate. You'll see it's gonna match our wiring connector. We'll take our dielectric grease, get some in our socket there.I'm gonna start with my rectangular end of my wiring. I'm gonna feed it in over top of the hitch going over towards that connector. We'll bring our factory connector down. You want to plug your new connector into it there. Wait 'til you hear the click, and then you just want to give it a pull test. Once you've confirmed that that's in there snugly, just put it right back up in the place you removed it from. Now at this point, I like to pull all the slack out of my wiring. I'm gonna use a zip tie just up and around the hitch to make sure we don't have any slack going back over towards our exhaust. Now any excess that we have, we can tuck right back in that cubby, and just another zip tie there to hold it in place. These are a little bit longer zip ties than what comes with the kit. They're available on our website if you'd like to pick them up. We put some dielectric grease on our socket here. I'm just gonna plug that in once we have it attached. Wiggle it together, squeeze it so you hear that good click. Again, like we did before, pull on it, make sure it's not gonna come loose. And we put it right up on our bracket. Again, you can see this one's been welded onto the hitch, but the long bracket we gave you the part number for earlier will do the same job.Now let's run through and test out our wiring. We're just gonna use our trailer simulator here. You could use your trailer or a test light, whatever works out better for you. With our tester hooked up, we're gonna start by testing out the battery charge. You can see that's giving us our 12 volt. Now let's go run through our lights. We'll start by turning on our clearance lights. Now our left turn signal, our right turn signal. Do our brakes. Also check our reverse signal. With everything working properly, that's gonna complete our installation of the Curt T-Connector vehicle wiring harness with the seven way trailer connector. Part number is C56393.
