Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, insert the included 10-amp fuse into the integrated fuse holder. Then install the 10-amp mini fuse and two 7.5-amp mini fuses in the rear fuse panel.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harnes Installation - 2013 Honda Odyssey

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2013 Honda Odyssey, we're going to be installing CURT's vehicle-wiring harness with a four-pole flat trailer connector, part number C56378. Speaker 2: This four-pole wiring is going to provide your trailer with all the necessary lighting. This includes your left-turn signal, right-turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps, so you'll be DOT compliant in all states. The control box receives its own power from the vehicle and has a fuse-protected circuit. This way, it doesn't draw directly from your vehicle's tail lamp circuits. So, in case your trailer has a fault on its circuits, it's not going to affect your vehicle's circuits. It has an included dust cap to help keep out any dirt and debris. When you're using your harness, it just drapes out over the rear bumper, and it gets squished between the weather stripping. This isn't going to cause any damage to the wiring, as there is some play room there. And when you're done using it, you can just fold it up and store it inside your vehicle.

This will keep it out of the elements and further prevent any rusting corrosion occurring on your circuits. We'll begin our installation here, at the back of the vehicle. We're going to need to gain access behind this panel. We don't need to have it completely removed, but we will need to remove it slightly. We'll take out the cargo-net screw, and there's two more cargo-net screws located on the lower panel that we'll also have to remove. We'll then remove this trim panel. You might need to pull your weather stripping back a little bit so you can get underneath it, and then just pull upward. We can then set it aside. Now, pull the weather stripping back from this side, and just pull this panel outward.

This will be enough for us to get back there to run our wiring. Now use a flat-plated screwdriver to remove your fuse cover panel. Before we run our harness inside, we're going to go ahead and plug in our fuse. Normally, this is the last step, but the fuse is difficult to access once it's been run. Now, take your connector with all the wires going to it. We're going to route it behind this panel up towards our fuse box opening there. Plug it into the open cavity at the bottom. Now, take the adhesive backing located in your kit, and apply it to the control box.

Remove the other piece off the back, and we're going to stick it right on top of our plastic panel here. Then take your four-pole wiring and just run it right out down the bottom. Then, place the self-tapping screw in the kit through the ring terminal attached to the white wire, and run it into the body. Now, we can re-install our panels. Then, just push your weather stripping back into place.Next, we'll need to install a few fuses. Now, in some vehicles, these fuses may come free installed from the factory. If not, then you'll have to refer to your instructions, and place the appropriate fuses in their appropriate locations. Now, we're going to plug in our tester and make sure everything's working properly.

Here, we have our left-turn signal, right-turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps. And that completes our installation of CURT's vehicle-wiring harness with a four-pole flat trailer connector on our 2013 Honda Odyssey.

Quick install. Easily fit in fuse box. Though I pulled the wire out the side as seen in the pic rather than at the bottom of the door opening. There was an extra white connector but I didn't see anything to connect it too, so I disconnected it. 539879

I highly recommend this product over the overpriced piece of junk that [trailer rental place] sells! It took me probably 3 minutes to install this harness. It's plug-and-play and could not be any simpler. The package that I received had three 10 amp mini-fuses. I was supposed to receive one 10 amp and two 7.5 amp mini-fuses. Not a huge problem. Customer service was very helpful and took care of the problem right away. I could not be any happier! 462598

Had a Uhaul harness installed by uhaul and that failed after about a year. After trying to fix the uhaul harness I realized that it was due to poor installation. The product from etrailer was shipped the next business day, arrived when scheduled. It’s a very easy harness to install with it’s factory plug in. The process took about a half hour and works perfectly. I’ve bought several products from etrailer and they have all been great. Highly recommend this and all the products they sell. 581665

I needed to be able to wire up a trailer. After extensive research I came across this product. It arrived quickly and the YouTube video demonstrating how to install it was perfect. I got it done in no time at all and it works like a champ. Especially appreciate all of the fuses that are required come with it. One Stop Shop and a truly satisfied customer. The pricing was amazing as well! 509534

Wiring harness worked fine once installed. However, was disappointed that one of the four fuses (7.5 amp) was missing. Someone should review the packaging. The fuses (3 of the 4) were loose. Since the packaging was not sealed all the way around, I'm guessing the fuse worked it's was out. The fuse was not in the shipping box, which also was not completely sealed and the fuse could have fallen out of it. Don't understand why the fuses were not packed in the sealed plastic bag containing several other parts--including the large 10 amp fuse Had to spend $5 to get the right fuse, which was a low profile mini fuse--not just a mini fuse Instructions were okay, but found the u-tube videos were more helpful 506630

My Curt wiring harness shipped quickly and worked fine when I installed it. I thought it was expensive but then it had molded connectors so I'm sure that drives the price up. The instructions could have been better.....left me guessing a few things but that's no reflection on etrailer.....they're great. 484792

Easy installation, took approx 25 minutes or so. Pulled back trim and plugged in... EASY. Came with everything I needed including fuses, twist ties, and adhesive for unit. Must difficult part was making sure I could find the right fuse locations in the car to add. Bought with receiver kit. Whole installation took approximately 45 minutes (a little longer to make sure wiring was put in place). 2 days later used it unexpectedly to retrieve friend's broken down vehicle... worked great! 673295

I am greatly impressed with the product. It fits and looks great on my Honda Odyssey 2015. It is high quality and worth every penny! Installation was pretty simple overall. The only complications were as follows (See photo of bumper beam: The heads on the bolts that come with the hitch are larger than the Honda factory ones. This makes getting them through the access holes in the bumper beam (marked in red) difficult as the result of larger heads is needing a larger socket which does not fit through the aforementioned access holes. You will most likely need a "thin-walled socket" with a 6 inch extension to get those in. Additionally, if the bolts won't start and are cross threading, get a small socket on your extension (one that does not fit around the head of the bolts), take some double sided tape, and use it to stick the bolt to the socket. Now gently insert the bolt into the hole and begin to turn at a cautious pace. If it's not going in you'll now have room to adjust the bolts pitch/angle because of the smaller socket. Once you get the bolt threaded you can use a regular (thin-walled) socket to tighten to the appropriate torque (do not tighten any bolts until they are all started). Also if the bolts wont seem to thread check that the hitch mounting holes are positioned correctly. If they are off too much they will get in the way of your bolts. I shaved the corners (marked in yellow) on the bumper beam using an angle grinder about 1/8 inch to make the bumper cover fit better (took about 30 seconds to do all 6 corners). 661571

Nice wiring harness. Instructions are a little vague but the video gave clarification on the second connector with the single white wire. It is for vehicles equipped with backup sensors. 647166

The product was priced fairly, it came with more than a enough ties and some crimp connectors that were not necessary for my application. I found a video specific to my vehicle on YouTube that showed me how to get behind the interior trim that was produced by etrailer.com. The installation was a success within less than a half hour. 647121

Comments

Frequently, when a trailer taillight converter fails, its caused by a short somewhere in the trailer wiring. Before replacing the old converter, Id recommend closely examining the trailer wiring. Begin at the connector on the vehicle, checking for damage or corrosion. Continue on the connector on the trailer, and follow each circuit rearward to each taillight. Look for loose connections, pinched wires or worn or cracked wire insulation. If the short isnt located and repaired, youll continue to short out taillight converters.

  • For just the 4 way and the adapter for your 2014 Honda Odyssey Touring, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56378 which will install behind the driver's side trim panel in the rear cargo area. You will install the 10-amp mini fuse and two 7.5-amp mini fuses in the rear fuse panel. I've attached the installation details to assist. Then for your 7-way plug with only the 4-way functions, you only need the Mighty Cord Trailer Connector...
