Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. The connection point for the 7-way harness is located behind the rear bumper. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness in your cargo area or beneath your rear seat. Once you've plugged in the connectors, insert the included fuses and relay into your fuse panel as indicated in the instructions.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket is included to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - C56366 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at CURT T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 7-Way Trailer Connector. This product fits certain years of the Honda Pilot and Honda Ridgeline. To ensure that this is a fit for your vehicle you can use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com. Once installed this is going to provide a seven way blade style trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailers signal lights. This is compatible with four pull, five pull, and six pull adapters. Adapters are sold separately. The black box on here, on this portion of the harness or kit, this is a tail light converter.

This is going to ensure that your vehicles wiring matches that of your trailers. The power module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicles electrical system. It's constructed using surface mount technology for consistent, reliable performance. What that does is it maximizes the trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat, and it ensures superior operation even in rough road conditions. The seven way is a very strong and durable design. Comes with the spring loaded lid that's going to keep dirt and grime away from the terminals when it's not being used.

It's going to come with the mounting bracket and the necessary hardware to get it installed that way it's easily accessible near the hitch of the vehicle. This unit is designed to connect quickly and easily. Comes with detailed installation instructions to help walk you through the whole process step by step. The trailer harness here at the seven way. This plugs directly into the connection point behind a rear bumper. Now the plugs on this kit are custom fit for you vehicle.

They're going to match up perfectly and they're going to snap lock together for a nice, tight secure fit. The converter portion connects in the rear cargo area or beneath the rear seat depending on your application. You'll also need to make your ground connection, that's your white wire with the ring terminal attached to it. You'll want to get that grounded in a suitable grounding location. You can also use the included grounding screw to get that done. Once you have that done you'll want to mount the converter box to a safe out of the way location.

You can do that using the double sided adhesive foam tape provided with the kit. Now once you've plugged in the connectors you'll need to insert the included fuses and relay's into the appropriate locations as indicated in the instructions. Once your installations complete the seven way connector is going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the hitch. Again it does come with the mounting bracket and the necessary hardware to get that installed and easily accessible when you're ready to make you connection and start towing. It also comes with some cable ties. That way you can secure any excess or slack in your wiring. I do recommend using a small amount of dielectric 00:02:33 grease on all of your electrical connections like the plus on the vehicle and the seven fold connector itself. That grease is specifically designed to help prevent corrosion to the connection points. It is sold separately and available at etrailer.com. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights we're looking at three amps per circuit. For the tail lights we're looking at six amps per circuit. That's going to do it for today's look at the CURT T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 7-Way Trailer Connector.

I ordered this part back in June or July of 2018. I never really tested it because my RV was under renovation. So a few weeks ago (Oct. 2018) I finally get to use my RV and plug it into my truck. Well, the left turn signal and brake light will not work. So I spent three weeks grinding down all the ground connections to the frame, pig tail connections etc. and the lights still don't work. I hired a mobile RV repair person and they narrowed the issue down to my truck and not my camper. So I called etrailer and they told me to send back the bad part and they sent me a new one. The new one was installed today and my camper lights work perfectly now. 580414

Well made product but instructions and mounting bracket are lacking for my 2011 Honda Pilot. Wiring install was simple and straight forward. Mounting bracket was the biggest issue for me. Zip tied the connector to bumper as a temporary measure until I placed a separate order for a better fitting bracket. 572819

This is as straight forward as you can get. I highly recommend forgetting about Honda parts all together. Real nightmare dealing with Honda. This job is extremely easy but only if you are of medium size. Very hard to get hands in small space. Still highly recommend you go with this kit. 416810

Very easy installation as directed. Mounting the bracket for the receptical was quite different than the instructions, with a full size spare tire it did not fit in the space. Just needed to add longer screws. 555773

Little hard for 84 year old to get in those tight places. But I made it, Got everything installed. Put in the fuses, nothing worked, There were still 3 empty spaces in fuse box. I placed the size fuses called for on the fuse box cover in the empty spaces. Behold-checked again. Everything was working. I now have trailer lights. Took my Honda dealer they wanted almost $500 to install the lights. This was much more to my liking. Thank you 523499

Thanks for shipping my wiring adapter kit right away. I received the right kit for the Honda Pilot as ordered. Everything needed was in the kit. The video of the installation was fantastic. One thing with the instructions sent with kit , there isn’t any mention of the two twenty amp fuses in the front engine compartment but they are shown in video , there are two arrows on printed detail sheet showing empty spaces but it doesn’t say anything about installing them. Thanks 526310

After buying a used 2011 Honda Pilot I called the local dealer inquiring about what I needed to install the tow package as there was already a ball hitch on the vehicle. They told me just wire connection 7 pin round adapter was needed that hooked to an existing connector under the rear bumper. Well after an hour of frustration I finished the install and..... no trailer lights... uggh... My 16 year old daughter was in the garage with me and she said “ hey dad... watch this!” It was an etrailer video on my exact vehicle for the tow package install. Well needless to say I ordered the kit and it had everything I needed to finish the install which was now very easy after watching the video! The trailer lights work great and I am a completely satisfied etrailer customer ! Oh and by the way, the price I paid the dealer was more expensive than the entire kit from etrailer! 479343

The E trailer install video for my Honda Pilot made my wiring job a breeze. your service is the best. I ordered other products from different companies, call it a small spending spree this past weekend and I ordered your part LAST but it was the very FIRST part delivered. Your prompt customer service is outstanding. I will be recommending your products to everyone, And when I decide to rewire my trailer you guys will be the only place I go for parts and service questions. Signed — an extremely happy customer. Ordered the product and received an email detailing it would be delivered right away. Attempted to install it on my 2011 Honda Pilot and it didn't work right initially. I emailed ETrailer and received an immediate reply. ETrailer worked with me to diagnose the problem and helped resolve it. Super pleased with ETrailer and I would certainly order another product again. 555766

It is a very nice product .I had to do a couple adjustment for installation and I had to add 4 extra fuses to make it work. When you put the fuses just take the cover off and you can see behind on the cover what fuses you need .I had to add three 20 amp and one 7 1/2 amp.I added pictures make sure you look at those as well . 413191

Just got through installing wiring and the instructions were pretty straight forward. Took a little longer than anticipated but it could have had a lot to do with me being 70 and don't bend like I used to. Completed project, hooked up trailer and nothing. No lights on trailer anywhere. Was going to retrace my steps this morning and while rereading instructions something jumped out at me. In the very last thing to do was adding a 20AMP fuse in box under hood. I reread it twice more and then I noticed 3 little words "on drivers side'. I had placed fuse in an open spot in the main fuse box on the passenger side. After locating the correct box and installing the fuse, lo and behold my trailer lit up like a Christmas tree. Hopefully it will continue as it should and thanks for getting it to me quicker than expected. 450338

I installed this on my 2018 Ridgeline. This is an excellent product. Installation is difficult because of limited access under the rear seat. It's nearly impossible to pull out the push-in cable ties (in fact, I failed and just left the existing cable ties in place). It was more difficult to hook up the connector, but do-able. The bracket under the rear bumper, for the connector, gets installed with the provided self-drilling and tapping screws. In addition to the fuses to be installed in positions 3 and 7 in the fuse box, I had to install 20 amp fuses in positions 9 and 11, and a 7.5 amp fuse in position 6. 445118

Product itself rates 5 star but instructions from Curt are not accurate. The Honda plug which connects to Curt controller was not reachable as advertised. Requires a second person to remove seat back and cut away at cardboard and jute insulation behind seat to locate factory plug. Not possible to simply reach in and get to plug. Also takes a second person t reinstall back seat back. Contacted Curt, etrailer and Honda to get better location of factory plug. All stated it's just "right there." But no tech help had ever physically installed it on a Ridgeline and could share details. Advertised 20 min install has turned into 3 hours thus far and still haven't installed external plug and wiring. etrailer assistance was very quick and helpful regarding product; shipping was very fast just not quite what Curt advertises on ease of locating factory plug. 560438

Thanks very much to etrailer for the great service. Wiring kit arrived on time as stated. One question & I will call also. The package states for Honda Ridgeline 2017-2018. I ordered for a 2019 2wd. Is this kit the right one for my Honda? 554293

Yes, I confirmed with Curt that this wiring harness is the correct harness for your 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The package may need to be reprinted for the year 2019.

The wiring harness fit my vehicle. Directions were well written and clear, making installation fairly easy. This C56366 worked perfectly on my 2010 Honda Pilot. I did worry that the 7 pin connector would fit with a full size spare. It had to be mounted on the outside of the removable cutout right next to the factory hitch. It took some time to get it mounted that way but it needed the clearance to not hit the full size spare. It also took some time to get the bracket for the 7 pin connector mounted. The rest of the installation was easy. Just followed the instructions and also watched the etrailer install videos for the 2010 and 2011 Honda Pilot, there are very helpful tips in those videos. All of the trailer lights are working as well as the 12V aux lead to charge the battery while driving. This kit also includes a fuse for under the hood to power the trailer brake controller if you will be installing one of those. 614475

2017 Honda Ridgeline

This product fit my 2017 Ridgeline to a "T". The Ridgeline is basically prewired for the C56366 harness. Instructions aren't perfect, but with a little common sense we were able to work through the installation. The instructions could be improved with a clear picture or drawing of each step. The hardest part was finding and freeing the connector behind the rear seat. Honda had fastened the connector high and tight, making it almost impossible to free in order to attach the internal harness. Small hands and arms are a plus. Probably helps if you know what you are doing. 8^) Sure beats paying a couple of hundred bucks for something you can do yourself. 608627

Thank you Carol. I installed the Curt 56366 connector. It was relatively easy for someone without much experience. I have two questions: 1) are there any additional fuses needed other than the two indicated in the instructions for the 2019 Ridgeline? I have seen other configuration online. 2) is there another connector that would already have a 4 pin connector as well, that I can use with the harness connector part, in such a way that I can have the 4pin connector under the car and not as an additional adapter connected to the 7way?????????? 603383

2019 Honda Pilot

I purchased the Curt Model C56366 trailer harness and Reese Model 78118 7-pole to 4-pole adaptor for my 2019 Honda Ridgeline. I also purchased a tube of Loctite Dielectric grease-LT37534. If your trailer sits outside in the weather and uses incandescent light bulbs, put a dab of the Loctite Dielectric grease on the bulb contacts as they can corrode even if your lights are well sealed. The Curt and Reese products are generally well made and installation was easy. However, Curt's instructions were not clear so I recommend reading them carefully. The C56366 kit for a Ridgeline also includes instructions and extra parts for a Pilot, so read BOTH sets of instructions so you know which parts to use or discard depending on your application. Having said all that, after installing my wiring, the brake lights on my trailer would not light. I went back over the installation and found that a wire had pulled out of the Curt wiring harness connector that installs behind the rear seat of the Ridgeline. (this was the hardest part of the installation as there is very limited space to work in and the existing plug-in on the Honda was hidden behind an insulation mat) A call to etrailer resulted in them sending me a replacement for that portion of the harness and the problem was corrected. During the course of this installation I talked to four etrailer tech reps and received friendly, professional help from them all. I will recommend etrailer, Reese, and Curt to fellow trailer owners. 599017

Got he whole electrics hooked up in about an hour, but nothing had power, rechecked and all was ok. They did send extra fuses with the kit with no mention of what to do with them. After looking around the truck I decided to try putting them into the empty slots in the aux fuse box. That did it Lights all working fine now... Thanks. 597497

I received the harness and installed it as per your instructions but there seems to be no power in the connector? Any suggestions, I've rechecked my ground and it's good. There are several relays and fuses left over, could one of them be the problem 597362

Comments

There are 3 fuses in total that need to be installed. A 7.5A in the TRL BACKUP slot and a 10A in the TRL E-BRAKE slot. The fuse positions COULD be different in the 2019 model than whats shown in the instructions, but the online copy of the owners manual does not show a fuse diagram, so youll want to look at the lid for the engine compartment fuse box to find those two circuits. Also, be sure to install the 10A fuse in the red fuse holder on the trailer wiring harness.

Just started installing today. It was super easy until the step to mount the bracket to the frame. The bracket didn't seem to work with my '09 Pilot. If the connector is positioned in line with the plastic opening as it should be which happens to be angled downward, the metal bracket doesn't sit flush on the frame (See picture). If the bracket is flush on the frame, the lid to the wiring connector cover won't open all the way due to interference with the plastic opening in the vehicle. The bracket needed to be a little longer at the top and have a slight bend to it. I had some scrap pieces of metal that I used to extend the top of the bracket and bent them such that the connector will align with the plastic opening and the metal can be attached to the frame flush. I haven't tested it with a trailer yet but will soon. Overall, a lot more time and swearing than originally planned for the install. 595382

This wiring harness was exactly what I needed for my 2011 Honda Pilot. It works great and was easy to install. The attachment of the port to the bumper is a bit funky as you need to attach a flat item to a rounded bumper. I got it to work and it looks fine in the end. If you take a look at the attached photo of the instructions for the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector part # C56366 which installs in the...

  • Recommended Trailer Brake Controller for 2019 Honda Ridgeline Sport
  • I assume you are looking for a brake controller for a 2019 Honda Ridgeline Sport as that is all that pulls up in a google search. If that is what you are seeking I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 which is a customer favorite because of the dependability and the ease of use with the LCD screen. For this you will use the wiring harness # 3070-P. I've attached a video of this on a 2017 model to assist. If you want a more factory brake controller appearance then I recommend...

  • Recommended 7-Way and Trailer Brake Controller for 2011 Honda Pilot
  • Starting with the 7-Way for your 2011 Honda Pilot, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56366. This custom harness will plug right into the factory port located behind the rear bumper of your Pilot and provide you with a 7-Way connector. This particular kit includes the fuses and relays needed to activate the tow package so the 7-Way will be fully functional. I have attached the written installation instructions that you can also check out. Then for the brake...

  • Does a Brake Controller Have to Install When Installing a 7-Way on a Trailer
  • Yes, you can install a 7-way without also installing a brake controller. Basically you have all of the trailer light functions covered and then later when you add a brake controller the trailer brakes would then be functional. Then for an adapter to convert the 7-way to a 4-way you'd only need the part # HM47365 and you'd be set.

  • How to Add a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2011 Honda Pilot
  • The presence of the plugs on your 2011 Honda Pilot does not mean that they are active. The difference is in how the vehicle is equipped. If the 2011 Honda Pilot did not come with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector, that means that it is not set up to accept just a 7-Way by itself. In that case, you would need # C56366.

  • Parts Needed to Install a Brake Controller in a 2010 Honda Pilot
  • Sounds like your 2010 Honda Pilot has a 4-way at the rear of it currently and you are looking for a way to convert it to a 7-way and also install a P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. For a trailer wiring harness you would want the Curt Harness part # C56366. This will convert the 4-way to a 7-way. Now to install the brake controller you will need the # 3070-P install harness that you referenced.

  • Installation Locations for Curt Trailer Wiring Harness C56366 on a 2017 Honda Ridgeline
  • Curt trailer wiring harness # C56366 plugs into the 2017 Honda Ridgeline in 2 places. The forward connection is located under/behind the rear seat. In this location the connector you need is supposed to be to the side of a factory green connector. It is possible that it is tucked behind something or has fallen and is not easily visible. The second location is at the rear of the vehicle, driver's side. Look in the area behind the rear bumper for the connector that mates with the one included...

  • Correct Trailer Wiring Harness for 2009 Honda Pilot Towing 5 x 8 Trailer
  • The item you purchased, Circuit Protected OEM Wiring Harness, part # C56366, is a fit for your 2009 Honda Pilot. The Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118491 is also a fit for your vehicle, it would provide a 4-way connector at the rear of your Pilot. Which connector you need would be determined by the connector on your trailer. Since the 7-way is more prevalent on larger trailers that are equipped with trailer brakes, I'd recommend sticking with that option and then using...

  • Recommended Brake Controller for 2011 Honda Pilot with Tow Package
  • Sounds like you are looking for a brake controller for your 2011 Honda Pilot with factory tow package. The Curt wiring harness is an aftermarket replacement for a damaged OEM wiring harness and does not come with a brake controller. Since your Pilot has the factory tow package, I recommend the Tekonsha P3 brake controller, # 90195 and wiring adapter # 3070-P. This adapter will plug into the back of a Tekonsha brake controller and the other end will plug into the 4-pin connector on...

  • The Curt 7-Way wiring harness kit # C56366 fits both the 2009-2011 Honda Pilot and the 2017-2018 Honda Ridgeline. The parts included cover the requirements for both vehicles so not all parts will be used. There are separate instructions for each vehicle install; this file is linked for you. The red fuse holder must have the included large red 10-amp fuse installed in order for the harness to operate, as noted in step 4 of the linked instructions. This fuse holder wires in between the...

  • Which Trailer Wiring Harness Fits a 2011 Honda Pilot not Equipped with Factory 7-Way
  • You are correct, the Replacement Harness, # C56366, does come with more parts than some other options. The difference is in how the vehicle is equipped. If the 2011 Honda Pilot did not come with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector, that means you can use # C56366 to make it fully functional.

  • Installation Instruction Tips for Installing a Curt Harness on a Honda Pilot 2011
  • As long as your boat trailer has a 7-way connector as a trailer connector the Curt Harness # C56366 will work to activate your trailer lights. I would recommend you connect your trailer to your tow vehicle once the harness is installed and check to make sure all of the tail light functions work. I spoke to my contact at Curt about the second number 2 in the installation instructions and he said that the push fasteners are behind the fascia and are what connect it to the body. He said...

  • I can help clarify the parts you will need to install a 7-Way trailer connector and the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. Your 2011 Honda Pilot is pre-wired from the factory to make installing these components easier. For a 7-Way wiring harness and all of the components needed to make the harness fully functional you can use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56366. This kit includes all of the fuses and relays needed to provide you with a working 7-Way...

  • Troubleshooting Curt 7-Way Wiring Harness Kit C56366 Installed in 2017 Honda Ridgeline
  • Thank you for your purchase of Curt 4-Pole Wiring Harness # C56366 which is a confirmed fit for the 2017 Honda Ridgeline that has the factory tow package connector. If you have installed this and found that there is 12V power going into the converter box but nothing is coming out of it then this does tend to suggest it is internally damaged. But you can check the plug both on the harness and on the vehicle side, just in case there is a contact in either connector that could be bent,...

  • 7-Way Trailer Connector for a 2013 Honda Pilot
  • Since you never really know what you might end up needing to tow, I would install the 7-Way, # 118265, on your 2013 Honda Pilot. Then if you needed to tow a trailer that had a 4-Way flat you can just plug in an adapter, # PK12716. This is much easier than installing a 4-Way and then using an adapter to go to a 7-Way, which would require more work to get it all functional.

  • Sounds like you installed a 7-way connector at the rear of your 2017 Honda Ridgeline and are looking for the intermediate harness that the 7-way would connect to. Since that's not available the only option we have would be the part # C56366 that you referenced which comes with this. You'd end up with a backup 7-way since it's included. It also includes all the relays and fuses as well.

  • What is the Circuit Protection on the Curt Vehicle Wiring Harness
  • The Curt Wiring Harness, # C56366, for your 2011 Honda pilot is rated to handle up to 3 amps on the turn and brake circuits and up to 6 amps on the tail light circuit. The circuit protection on this harness is the converter box. The converter box will short out if there is a short on the trailer or the trailer lights are drawing too many amps to protect the vehicle's electrical system. This is how most vehicle specific circuit protected wiring harnesses are manufactured. If multiple...

  • Tail Lights Not Working After Installing Trailer Harness On 2011 Honda Pilot
  • On your 2011 Honda Pilot I found there are 3 fuse panels. The secondary fuse panel located under the hood near the battery is where the slot for the trailer tail lights is located. You will need to make sure you install the included 30 amp fuse in the number 3 slot. Check to make sure that the fuse is good if you do have the fuse inserted. If everything checks out on the fuse panel you will want to use a circuit tester like part # 40376 to check the wire going into the modulite converter....
