Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located behind the rear bumper, on the driver's side. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, insert the included 10-amp fuse into the integrated fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - C56332 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking at look at the Curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness with a four pole flat trailer connector. This product fits certain years and models of the Kia Sedona, Kia Sorrento, Hyundai Santa Fe and Hyundai Veracruz. To ensure that this is the fit for your vehicle you can always use the vehicle fit guide at etrailer.com.This provides a four way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. This is designed for use with vehicles that have a factory tow package. It is compatible with five pole, six pole and seven pole adapters, adapters are sold separately and it comes with a dust cap for the four way flat connector that way you can cover up the connection points when your plug's not being used. That dust cap is tethered to the actual plug housing so you don't have to worry about misplacing or losing that cover. The black box on the unit is the included taillight converter.

This ensures that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. The power module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. That unit's constructed using surface spot technology. It's going to offer consistent reliable performance. What that does it it maximizes the trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat.

Also ensure superior operation, even in rough road conditions. This is designed to connect quickly and easily. You'll notice how a lot of the wiring's protected with a nice wire loom material. It's going to keep your wires together and safe from harm. So basically what you do when you're ready to connect it, locate the connection points behind the rear bumper and plug in your connectors. These connectors are custom fit for the the vehicles that I mentioned earlier so they're going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle and they're going to snap lock together for a nice tight secure fit.Once you have those plugged in you'll need to mount your convertor box to a safe out of the way location.

You can do that using the double sided adhesive tape provided with the kit. And then you will need to install the included 10 amp fuse directly in the fuse holder right here. So it slides in there and it's got the cap that comes over to keep it safe and protected.Once you have that done you can secure any excess or slack in your wiring with the included cable ties. And once the installation's complete, the four way connector's going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. We do recommend using a mounting bracket to keep the connector secure and easily accessible.

Mounting brackets are sold separately and available at etrailer.com. We also recommend that you use a small amount dielectric grease in all your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the four pole connector itself. That grease is specifically designed to help prevent corrosion of the connection points. It's sold separately as well and available at etrailer.com.When it comes to maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights we're looking at 3 amps per circuit. For the taillights we're looking at 6 amps per circuit. The unit also comes with detailed insulation and instructions to help walk you through the whole process step by step. That's going to do it for today's look at the Curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness with the four pole flat trailer connector.

The first step in any trailer lamp troubleshooting process is to determine if the problem lies with the vehicle wiring or in the wiring on the trailer itself. The easiest way to do this is to try a different trailer on the vehicle and a different vehicle with the trailer in question. If a different trailer or vehicle isnt available, youll need to use a circuit tester like # 40376
Circuit Tester Kit
$63.97
and test the pins on the trailer connector as a helper activates each lighting circuit. If the trailer connector isnt activating the tester, first ensure that the inline 10A fuse is in place, then make sure all necessary fuses are in place in the vehicles fuse box. Also make sure that the harness is fully seated into the tow package connector on the vehicle. Ill also link you to a help article that will assist in the troubleshooting process.

Bought the Curt Hitch and harness, Great product, great price, easy to install especially with their videos, fit great, fast shipping. 4 prong connector cable on wire harness could have been about 3 inches longer for my application as I mounted the module under the side cover as per video. Would have liked a mounting bracket on the hitch itself for the 4 prong trailer connection bracket. Came one day earlier than expected, but ups must have handled it pretty rough as the two outer ends of the hitch had punched holes through the box and scraped the ends. etrailer was great, will buy again and recommend. 498326

Quick and reasonably priced shipping, accurate order filling, competitive pricing, and phone access with NO wait when I had a question for etrailer! Very refreshing. Plenty of helpful installation videos on line really helped. Would have been a quick and easy installation except for the Curt 2 sided tape meant to hold the converter box to the car. It held for all of 10 minutes despite cleaning the surfaces and holding strong pressure on it. Surprisingly, it stuck to the car but not the box. The included self tapping screw didn’t work either so I used a sheet metal screw into the thick plastic to hold the box on. Plenty of zip ties included. End result-works perfectly with 2 simple plug ins to my Sorento factory wiring. 682020

Installs easily with plug-in connections. No need to run a separate power 12v power line or make any splices. Wish the four wires from the controller to the four-prong flat connector had been about a foot longer. That would have allowed me to place the controller in an area that is more protected from corrosive road moisture. Industrial-grade, adhesive-backed Velcro patches provide a more reliable means for attaching the controller to a clean flat surface than the adhesive patch provided in the kit. 499524

Hitch fits great and the wiring kit was easy to install. I simply unhooked the rubber exhaust hangar from the end of the tailpipe and the two nuts which fastened it to the back of the muffler. That way, I could easily remove the tailpipe for clearance to the passenger side hitch bolts. 462940

The wiring harness worked great and the videos helped a lot. Simple connection to the vehicle's wiring. Works as designed. The instructions say that the electronics module should be protected from the environment, however the wires to the 4-wire flat connector really aren't long enough to allow that flexibility. Those wires should be at least a foot longer. However, the module seems to be very well sealed, and I expect that it will hold up just fine even if not fully protected. 745123

Since you confirmed that the input-side wire is carrying the correct on-and-off blinking signal, and since this harness is a plug-in type that does not...

If your vehicle does not have the tow package, you will need to use the Upgraded Modulite, part # 119147KIT. This connector would need to be hardwired into...

  • How to Tell if 2020 Kia Sorento Has Factory Tow Package
If your 2020 Kia Sorento has the factory tow package, there will be a tail light wiring connector behind the rear tire of the driver side, on the outside of the frame rail. As shown in the attached photos, an underbody cover will need to be removed to gain access to the factory tow ports.
