Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring C56331 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to look at the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with the Four-Way Flat Trailer Connector. Now, this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2011 and newer Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravans. Now, on a custom fit part, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now, this harness will provide this four-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle, to power your trailer's signal lights. This is compatible with five-pole, six-pole, and seven-pole adapters that we do sell separately on our website. This whole harness does connect very quickly and easily.

Basically, you just locate your connection points, which are behind the tail lights in the rear of your vehicle, plug in these T-connectors, one on each side. One on the driver's side, one on the passenger side. Ground your white wire, and then this black wire's the power wire, that you'll run to your vehicle's battery at the front of your car. Now this harness does include this powered tail light converter, which is this black box here. This connects directly to your battery, so this avoids overloading your vehicle's electrical system. This converter is constructed using SMT technology, which is Surface Mount Technology.

Gives you consistent, reliable performance. This will maximize your trailer light yield and intensity, while producing minimal heat, and it even ensures superior operation in rough road conditions. On the four-way, if you notice, it does come with this nice dust cap for it. Basically, when you're not plugged into your trailer, you can just put that over the terminals, keeps them from getting damaged from the elements. This whole harness is made in the USA.

Comes with everything shown here on the table. Now the specs on this, the maximum amperage on the stop and turn light circuits is three amps per circuit. On the tail lights circuit, it's six amps.Comes with a nice set of detailed instructions that'll describe how to install it, and it even gives you pictures of where your connections are. But just briefly, how this goes into your vehicle. What you want to do is, again, go to the rear of your vehicle.

Gain access to the back of the tail lights, and you want to start on the driver's side. You'll take this T-connector here, it has the yellow wire in it. That's for the driver's side. You unplug the harness behind the tail lights, plug this into that. Then you'll take the other T-connector that has this extra length of green wire. That's for the passenger side. You run this all the way over to the passenger side, you'll do the same thing. Plug this in behind the tail lights.Once those are all plugged in, then you want to take this converter box, and you do want to attach this to a good flat surface so it doesn't bounce around, so they do include this nice piece of double-faced tape that you can attach it down with. Once that's all done, you have two wires remaining here. Now, your four-way that's attached to this bonded wire, this you'll just run out the back towards where the trailer is, and these two remaining wires, the white wire has an eyelet on it, that's for a ground. You want to connect this white wire to a good, clean ground, if there's one nearby. If not, they do include a grounding screw that you can make your own ground, and then the black wire's the power wire. That is what will run to connect to your vehicle's battery, and they do give you this extra length of wire to do that, and the butt connectors. Put a butt connector on your power wire, connect it to one end of this length of wire, run this all the way up to the front. When you get there, you don't want to connect this directly to the battery. You want to run it through this inline fuse holder. Take the other butt connector, put it on that length of wire, and then connect it to one side of the fuse holder just like that. Then on the other end of the fuse holder, you'll take this included eyelet connector, put it on there, and this is what will connect to the battery. Once that's all connected, pop open the fuse holder, take the included 15 amp fuse, push it into the fuse holder. Make sure it's in there all the way. Put your cap on there. Now your system'll be all ready to go. If you notice, they do give you some extra cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring. That should do it for the review on the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with the Four-Way Flat Trailer Connector.

Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring for a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan
  • The wiring options for your 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan all install the same way and provide you with a 4-Way flat connector for your basic lighting functions on your trailer. The only exception is the Tekonsha part # 22121 which provides a 7-Way and the ability to add a brake controller. Since your trailer doesn't have brakes it would be better to stick with a 4-Way. Out of the available options, I recommend going with the Tekonsha T-One # 118534. We have found that Tekonsha is the most...

  • Difference Between Tow Ready Wiring Harness # 118534 and Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness, # C56150
  • The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118534, and the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Harness, # C56331, both serve the same functions but are just made by two different companies. Either harness is compatible with your 2011 Chrysler Town and Country but my personal recommendation would be to purchase the Tow Ready brand. This harness provides a higher maximum amperage per circuit. I have attached videos which demonstrate the installation process of both harnesses for you.

  • Does the Computer Have to be Flashed on a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country to Install Trailer Wiring
  • Both wiring harnesses for the 2012 Chrysler Town and Country, see link, are T-connectors but also need power from the vehicle battery in order to power the trailer lights. The T-connections provide the signals that tell the converter what to do. This method protects the electrical system on your van. Because these harnesses require a battery connection, you will need to disconnect the negative cable when wiring in the harness. Having the battery disconnected will essentially re-set the...

  • Which Trailer Wiring Harness for 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan
  • A vehicle can have a separate or a combined taillight system. A separate system would use a different bulb for the brake lamps and the turn signals. Usually the turn signal bulb or lens over the bulb would be amber in color. Some vehicles use a combined system, which use the same bulb for brake lamps and turn signals. Your Grand Caravan has a combined wiring system, so either the Curt # C56331 or the Tow Ready # 118534 would work well for you.

  • Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country With LED Lights
  • I spoke with my contact at Curt and the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C56331, is exactly what you will need for your 2012 Chrysler Town and Country with LED lights. This wiring harness will not draw the power directly from the vehicle wires, but intercepts those signals and sends them to the converter box which uses power from the vehicle battery to send the signals to the 4-pole trailer connector to power the lights on the trailer.

  • Can I Disconnect Power from Curt T-Connector Part C56331 When Not Towing For Long Periods
  • The correct Curt trailer wiring harness for your 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan is part # C56331. This does include a mains fuse holder for controlling 12V power to the taillight converter box. If you wish you may remove this fuse to cut-off power input to the converter box. However, do be careful to avoid losing the fuse (or keep some spares in the glove box, which is a good idea in any case). Do please note that when the converter output is not connected to a trailer via the 4-pole, no...

  • Trailer Lights Stay On when Connected to 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan with Curt Wiring Harness
  • If you are using Curt trailer wiring harness # C56331 on your 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan then those harnesses do allow power to the 4-Way even with the vehicle off. On a trailer that has LED lights the lights will be on brighter than if it had incandescent lights. You would want to disconnect the trailer when parked. I do not believe that you have a bad ground or a faulty converter box. This is a common characteristic of Curt powered wiring harnesses. The comparable Tow Ready harness...

  • The best way to run the power wire to the battery on Curt Circuit Protected T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C56150, is basically what is easiest for you while adhering to a couple of important safety tips. First, it is easiest to route the wire under the vehicle rather than through the inside. There are some adapters, like # C57674, that have LED indicators to tell you a circuit is working on or not. I recommend checking all of the connections the harness is making to your vehicle to see if there is anything out of place that may be causing a short. The converter box or logic box contains circuitry designed to distinguish between the brake and turn signals and combine them to a single circuit on the output side. Since the turn signals are working on the trailer but the brake lights are not, this is normally a bad ground. The brake lights will...

  • Differences Between Curt and Tow Ready Trailer Wiring for 2012 Grand Caravan
  • Functionally speaking, both wiring harnesses do the same thing and would install in the same manner. The Tow Ready # 118534 has a slightly higher amperage rating than the Curt # C56331 and is a bit less expensive, so that's what I'd recommend. In this instance, you'd sacrifice nothing by going with the lower priced option. I've linked you to an installation video showing the Tow Ready # 118534 being installed on a 2012 Grand Caravan.
