This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. You will have to remove all trunk floor coverings and the scuff panel to access these connection points. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - C56299 Review

Today we're going to review part number C56299, this is the Curt T-connector, vehicle wiring harness, with the 4-way flat trailer connector. This is a custom fit part, it is designed to fit the Honda Accord sedan starting in 2016. Now, on any custom fit part, what I always like to recommend is to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year, and model vehicle, and it will show you if this will work for your application. Now this harness will provide this 4-way flat trailer connector to back your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights, it connects very quickly and easily. There's no cutting or splicing of wires. Basically, you just locate your connection points, which are in the trunk are behind the tail lights. Plug in these t-connectors, there's basically three on the driver side, and one on the passenger side.

Ground the white wire right here, and then run this hot lead power wire to the vehicle's battery. That would have you all ready to go. Now, this does include this tail light converter right here, this black box. This is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. It again, is a power module converter, uses this power wire to connect to your battery, gives power to this converter directly from the battery, and this is to over loading your vehicles electrical system. The converter itself is constructed using SMT technology which is surface mount technology, gives you consistent, reliable performance.

It will maximize your trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat. It will also give you superior operation in rough road conditions. This part also comes with a nice dust cap for your 4-way, so in other words, you just attach this to the 4-way plug and when you're not plugged into your trailer, when it's in storage, just put the cap over the terminals to protect them from any damage or from the elements. A few specs on this harness, the maximum amperage for the converter on this stop and turn light circuit is 3 amps per circuit. On the tail light circuit it's 6 amps total. It comes with everything shown here on the table.

It comes with a nice set of detailed instruction, and it will describe how to install it, and it will give you pictures to show where your connections are. Briefly, how this would install, is you go the rear, or the trunk area of the vehicle, and again, gain access behind the tail lights. You want to start on the driver side, and what you'll see is there's three sets of t-connectors, each connector is different, so what you'll do is go to the driver's side tail light, find the three connections over there, that will match each connector on here, and plug these all in. Then you have your white wire with the eyelet on it, that needs to connect to a good, clean ground. So, they do include a grounding screw, that you can drill a hole, make your own clean ground. Then you'll take this remaining t-connector that has this longer length of green wire, now that's for the passenger side, so you'll run this over to the passenger side, do the same thing.

Connect this behind the tail light. Once that's all connected, this converter, this box, you want to make sure that attaches to a good flat surface so it doesn't bounce around. They give you a piece of double sided tape, to adhere that down too. They also give you some extra cable ties, if you want the extra security to secure that box down. Once those are all connected, then your last thing is your black Powell wire. It comes out of the converter. Now this will need to run to the positive post of your vehicles battery which is in the front of the car. They do give you this length of wire, take one of the included butt connectors, put it onto the Powell wire, and then run it one end of this length of wire. Then you'll run this length of wire up to the front of the car, and this will connect to the battery, but what you want to do is, before you connect this to vehicle's battery, you'll want to run it through this inline fuse holder. Take the other butt connector, put it on this, one side of the inline fuse holder, just like that. Then on the other side, is what will connect to the positive post of your battery, put on the eyelets connector just like that. Then once you get it connected, just go ahead and open your fuse holder up, take the included 10 amp fuse, put it into your fuse holder, put the cap on it, and your system would be all ready to go. Now, they give you some extra cable ties to take up any slack to keep this wire from hanging down. Once, it's all connected, just go back to run this out the back, this length of wire, plug it into your trailer, and it will supply the lights on your trailer. But that should do it for the review of part number C56299, Curt T-Connector vehicle wiring harness, with the 4-way flat trailer connector.

2018 Honda Accord

We ordered a trailer hitch for our 2016 Accord. That went on just fine, exactly as it should. When we ordered the hitch we clicked through on the recommended wiring. However that turned out to be for the coupe not the sedan. They have different plugs. So we sent that back. We then ordered the wiring for the sedan. Two are listed. One for Accords with LED taillights, the other for Accords without LED taillights. Well, all 2016 Accords have LED taillights. Some also have LED brakelights. How do I know this? I call our local Honda dealer. They don't know. They call the service department. They don't know. I finally downloaded the Accord 2016 manual - a more detailed version than comes with the car and that gives the needed information. Anyways ... we got this installed and it works fine. It would be difficult as a DIY installation since you have to run the 12 V line from the front of the car, underneath and into the trunk. The knuckleheads that installed it for us drilled through a drain hole in the trunk despite there being an existing grommet 18 inches away that they could have used. I'd suggest that if you have this wiring installed on your car you review the video for the 2015 Accord wiring installation and based on that tell your mechanics exactly what you want. 279690

Easy install except for the hot wire to the battery. Luckily I found a YouTube video where a guy was running a wire for an amplifier from the trunk to the battery. It would have been great if etrailer.com would have made one as they produce excellent installation videos. Unfortunately, the controller malfunctioned after very little use (hence the reduction of one star). I’d call it an infancy failure. However, etrailer.com’s excellent customer service helped me troubleshoot and determine it was a bad controller and worked with me to get a replacement (covered under warranty). Overall, very satisfied with this experience. 747126

Installed on a 2017 Honda Accord Sport. Easy installation up until the power tap was required. I opted to chase the 12 gauge wire (included in the kit) along a factory wire harness through the drivers side door jambs and hook into an existing hot-on-ignition-off circuit using a customized add-a-circuit fused tap. Took me a good hour or so to get the wire run but it is completely invisible. Note to Accord drivers; there are a number of factory-installed body "plugs" or grommets in the floor of the trunk underneath the carpet. I cut the core out of one of these plugs, cut the 4-wire plug off, ran the cut end through the grommet and out to the hitch, then crimped the 4-wire assembly back together. A little duct sealant to prevent air leakage and you have a seamless, no-cut no-drill installation! 722843

2017 Honda Accord

Installed this on a 2017 Honda Accord Sport (dual exhausts). This is probably the 5th or 6th hitch that I've installed on various vehicles and overall very simple. Hardest part was trimming the heat shields; to do this you'll need a pair of tin snips or a Dremel. It took me about 4 tries to get it "just right". With only three bolts and four nuts total you'd really have to try hard to screw this one up. 722839

Works as expected, Never gave the wireing much thought since I installed it. I only use my trailer on occasion. No pictures available at this time. 686585

Ask the Experts about this Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • How Should Wire of Powered Trailer Wiring Harness Run to Vehicle Battery
When you install the trailer wiring for the 2016 Honda Accord you need to route the power wire from the rear of the vehicle up to the vehicle battery. There are two ways to do this. One way is to run it through the interior and then run it through a hole in the firewall to get the wire into the engine bay. Or you can run it out a grommet in the floor of the trunk and then route it underneath the vehicle up to the battery that way. Be sure to keep it away from hot exhaust pipes or moving...

  • Why is Powered 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness Necessary on 2016 Honda Accord with LED Lights
Some vehicles need a powered trailer wiring harness with a separate power wire (rather than the passive type that just plug-in) in order to protect the car's wiring. In the case of the 2016 Honda Accord sedan this is the type of harness required, either Curt # C56299 that you referenced or the similar Tekonsha # 118684. Both harnesses install in an identical manner and differ only in terms of their maximum current output capacity. The Tekonsha harness offers higher output (4.2-amps per...

  • Recommendations for Towing Using a 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid
Neither Curt nor Draw-Tite confirm a fit for your 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid, but we have had a customer install one on a hybrid. His review can be found on the page for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11681. It did require a little more modification of the underbody panels. For your trailer wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118684 which will work with the LED lights. This custom-fit T-One connector...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Lights Not Working with One Vehicle But Work with Another
Most likely the trailer has a weak ground and if you improve the grounding of the main trailer wiring harness and the grounds of each of the assemblies you'll see them start to work like normal. The brake lights draw the most amperage of all of the circuits so if there's a weak ground and the tow vehicle doesn't have a lot of amperage the circuit may not work. I also attached a help article on trailer wiring for you to check out as well.

  • Troubleshooting Brake Lights of Trailer Wiring that Stopped Working
Yes, it is possible that the converter box of your trailer wiring has an internal issue that is causing your problem. What you will want to do is test the wires going into the box of the converter box for voltage with a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to see if there is voltage going into the box when the taillight functions of your vehicle are applied, and then test the output side of the box to see if the current is making it through the converter. If not then the problem is that...

  • Maximum Towing Capacity and Parts Needed to Tow a Waverunner with a 2017 Honda Accord
The maximum towing capacity of your 2017 Honda Accord is 1,000 lbs. The towing capacity of the hitch will not change the vehicle's towing capacity as the lower of the two ratings (vehicle/hitch) will always be the limiting factor. For your Accord, I recommend using the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24899 which is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. The only real difference between the two hitches is that Curt part # C11681 will require the use of a...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Towing Components for 2017 Honda Accord Sedan
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I # C11681 is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Honda Accord Sedan and at this time there is not a Class II hitch available. If you will be towing with this hitch, I recommend the ball mount # C45521 and hitch ball # A-80 for a 1-7/8 inch ball or # A-82 for a 2 inch diameter hitch ball. You will also need a pin and clip like # F-4 to secure your ball mount. For trailer wiring, I recommend the Curt T-Connector # C56299 which will connect...

  • Parts for 2016 Honda Accord Sport to Allow Towing a Trailer
To transport your Italian Ice cart on your 2016 Honda Accord you would need a hitch that has enough weight capacity for the combined weight of the 350-lb loaded cart plus the weight of the hitch carrier you load it on. Unfortunately the only hitches available for your 2016 Honda Accord are the light-duty Class I type, like Draw-Tite # 24899, which have a maximum weight capacity of only 200-lbs. So unfortunately there is no way to use a hitch cargo carrier on this vehicle for your cart. However,...

  • Do Trailer Hitches for 2016 Honda Accord Sedan Require Trimming of Lower Fascia
For your 2016 Honda Accord there are only trailer hitches available like the Curt hitch part # C11681 which do require trimming or modifying the lower fascia. I attached an install video for more info for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring you would then want the part # C56299 which is also a confirmed fit. For a 2 inch ball ball-mount you would want the part # C45572 or for 1-7/8 inches you would want the part # C45571.
