Quickly and easily install a 7-way, RV-style trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. Connector plugs directly into OEM tow package port - no cutting, splicing or tapping required.

Features:

  • Provides a 7-way, blade-style trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights
    • Designed for use with a factory tow package
  • Connects quickly and easily - no cutting or splicing of wires
    • Locate connection point along frame rail
    • Plug in connector
  • Includes relays required to activate functions
  • Comes with protective cover for 7-way connector
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your factory tow package wiring harness, which is located beneath the rear of your vehicle, along the driver's-side frame rail. Before connecting the 7-way itself, plug the included harness with relays into the 12-pin connector at the front of your vehicle. To access this connector, you will have to remove the passenger's-side sill plate and kick panel.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2017 Nissan Frontier

Speaker 1: Today in this 2017 Nissan Frontier, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Curt T Connector vehicle wiring harness for factory tow package vehicles with a seven way trailer connector. Part number C56226.Here's what the wiring looks like installed. This gives us a seven way connector which will allow us to be able to tow a camper, pop up trailer, or a multitude of other trailers. This connector inside, you find seven terminals. You'll have your ground, both your left and your right turn signals, a twelve volt charge line, your backup signal. Additionally, you will also have electric trailer brake output if you have a brake controller inside your Frontier to run electric trailer brakes.Additionally we also will have our tail light and running light signal.

Now this seven way wiring harness gives us all those functions, so we'll be able to tow basically any trailer out there regardless of the style of electrical connector it has, because you can get a seven way adapter which will adapt down to a five way flat, a four pull flat, a six way round. We have multiple options on our website, but this gives you the most versatility out there for all of your wiring harnesses that you need. This wiring harness is a quick and easy install, plugs into your vehicle's existing tow package connectors, so there is no cutting or splicing required. It has most everything that you need in order to install it to your vehicle. The only thing you may need to purchase will be a bracket to mount your seven way connector. We have those available on our website if you need one.Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed.

To begin our install, we need to locate our factory tow package connectors. We'll locate those on the inside edge of our driver's side frame rail. It will be these two connectors right here. The black one and the gray one. We'll remove these from the frame rail using a trim handle pull or a flat head screw driver. Now on each one we'll have a tab that we can press on and pull out the plug that protects our electrical connectors.

The gray one you may need a pair of needle nose pliers. Squeeze on the tab and pull back. Now we'll take our harness, match the colors up for our two plugs and plug into both connectors. Now we need to find a location to mount our seven way connector. Our hitch has a mounting bracket welded to it to attach a seven way bracket. Our seven way bracket is not included with our wiring harness, but you can pick it up on our website as part number PK12711U.

We'll attach that with the provided hardware. We use a wrench to hold the nut in place as we tighten our screw down. We'll now take our seven way connector, stick it inside of our bracket and secure it with our hardware. With our connector secure, we can now plug our harness into the connector. Pull back and make sure it's secure. Now we find ourselves in the passenger side of our truck in our front door area. We need to remove our door sill entryway right here. To do that, just lift up on it. We'll pull it back from our B pillar. Now the second piece of our kick panel is secured to our carpet right here with a plastic screw. Unscrew it and we can grab the panel, pull it away and set it aside.Behind that panel, we find this unoccupied connector. We'll plug our relay harness into that connector. It only goes in one way. Once it clicks we know it's secure. Now we have three relays we need to plug in. Our blue ones will go to our white connectors. They only go in one way. So just line it up and push, and the brown one goes to the brown connector. Now we will tuck our relays and wiring harness down in this area and reinstall our panels. Now we're going to use a seven way tester to make sure all of our functions are working properly. The only thing that we're not going to be able to test is our brake output if we had a brake controller. This vehicle doesn't have a brake controller installed, but if we did, we would be able to use that function on our seven way. We have our headlights turned on now, so our taillight and our running light function's working. Left turn signal's working, right turn signal's working. Our brake lights are working, and our turn signals still work as normal with out brake lights on, our reverse light, and reverse output function is working. You would typically see that on a boat trailer for reverse lockout alcyonoid. And our 12 volt hot power wire's also working. You would use that to charge your battery in your trailer. And now that we've verified that everything's working by using our tester, we're ready to hook up to our trailer and hit the road. That completes our look at and installation of the Curt T connector vehicle wiring harness for factory tow package vehicles with a seven way trailer connector. Part number C56226 on this 2017 Nissan Frontier.

I bought this to install on my 2015 Nissan Xterra X. My order was processed and shipped very quickly. Everything was organized within the package and it came with very basic instructions. etrailer has a "how to" video which was very helpful, made installing it quick and easy (about 5-15 minutes). I've only had the product for about a week and have used it once, but everything has worked just fine so far. 372103

This product is actually great; however, the package face plate will not fit a factory installed welded bracket to the frame of the truck for a 2008 Frontier. The wiring harness and the pug is actually better quality than the dealers. Yet, I had to purchase mine from the dealer. The only bonus is the dealer's replacement package was less expensive for the wiring harness and the relay replacements. I must also state, the e-trailer staff was great throughout this experience for us both. 218546

Nissan Xterra

Finally got time to install the hitch on my '14 Xterra. I found that I did not have to loosen the exhaust. I did it my myself in my garage and it took about an hour. After you wiggle it around and get the first bolt in the rest go in easy. Then all one must do is torque the bolts and you are "golden." I also am installing the 7 pin wiring harness. The Xterra is already wired for towing. It is mostly a plug and play. The only thing I did different was to cut a hole in the bumper and make it permanent and better looking. Will pick up my new teardrop trailer in a couple of months. Everything will be ready to go by then. 468528

When I ordered this item, for obvious reasons as described in the product review...its a plug and play. Bracket not included!! Well ok, so I will pay extra and get the bracket to attach this $75.00 bundle to my hitch. All went well with the order, and arrived in a good amount of time. easy install hooking into the factory connections. But this stupid little made in Taiwan bracket that I had to order above and beyond, mounted to the hitch ok, but was nowhere in the ball park of fitting the hole arrangement on the seven way plug!! I had to drill new holes in the plug itself to get it to mount up correctly. Not a huge deal, but my expectations are that paying the additional amount for an incorrect part...that should come with the product to begin with was somewhat of a let down. I will continue using e-trailer in the future for my vehicle needs. Folks are only getting a three star on this one!! 544615

I had bought a Nissan Frontier which had a hitch and 4 plug wiring. When I hitched up my trailer I had brake and blinkers but no running lights. It was no big deal as I run it during the day. Well I got caught in a nasty rain storm and had no running lights and did some research to figure out why I had no running lights. Make a long story short the person or dealer who rigged up the lights never did the correct wiring. This kit is simple and does all the wiring for you as it is truly plug and play! The only thing they could add to the kit is two #14 sheet metal screws only because there are the holes in the bumper for the plate to attach the plug. Other then that the kits is good as gold! 504116

I was desperate to find a trailer hitch for my Nissan Xterra, due to a last minute change of plans to bring my son home from college. I found etrailer and they saved the day! Great price, in stock so I placed my order. It arrived in a day or 2, with no extra charges. It was truly a custom fit for my vehicle with everything needed to hook up and connect to my truck, and was on in no time. Heavy duty/solid construction, a quality piece. I have made use of the hitch many times, with out any problems! Very happy with etrailer and I have already recommended them to others. 431002

Wiring harness and relay harness plugged into the truck perfectly. I had a 7way to 4flat adapter plugged in and there was an issue where the blinkers and brake lights weren't working. Turns out there's a 15a fuse in the engine compartment that was missing. The fuse goes in the smaller fuse box on the passenger side in the engine compartment. Once you plug the fuse in everything will work. Hope this helps someone else. 658842

  • Hitch, Wiring and Brake Controller Adapter For 2019 Nissan Frontier To Tow Trailer with Brakes
The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit part # 75282 is a great option for your 2019 Nissan Frontier. Then you will use the Curt # C56226 or the Tekonsha # 118266 to get the correct 7-way. So when you plug in your trailer the brakes are getting a constant 12 volts. But not to worry. We have a help article, linked below, that explains how you can easily fix this problem!
