Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness. The connection point for the 4-way harness is located behind the rear bumper. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness behind the interior access panel in your rear cargo area. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - C56170 Review

Today we're going to review part number C56170. This is the CURT t-connector vehicle wiring wiring harness for the factory tow package. It comes with the 4-way flat trailer connector. Now this is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the Honda Pilots with the factory tow package starting in 2012. What I would recommend on a custom fit part is to go to our website, use our fit guide.

Put in your year and model vehicle and it will show you if it's part will work for your application. This part does include everything shown here. Includes the two wiring harnesses. Includes some zip ties or cable ties to take up any excess wire. Double face tape for attaching the converter down. Two fuses: a 10-amp fuse and a 30-amp fuse that needs to be installed.

A dust cover for the 4-way. And a nice set of detailed instructions with pictures of the location points. Now this will provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. Again, this part is designed for use on vehicles with the factory tow package. It does connect quickly and easily. There's no cutting or splicing of wires.

Basically they're just all plug-ins. Right here the tow harness plug-in, this will go into the connect point that's usually behind the rear bumper on the vehicle. This converter harness right here, this will usually plug into a connection point in the rear cargo area. Now on this one it has a powered module which connects directly to your battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. It is constructed using the SMT technology, which is surface-mount technology. Gives you consistent, reliable performance.

It will maximize your trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat. It also ensures superior operation in rough road conditions. Now the dust cap that's included, just put that onto the 4-way. Then wiring harness you're not using your 4-way what you would do is just cover the terminals with the dust cap. That will protect them from getting damaged or from the elements getting to them. Now this part is made in the USA. A few specs on it: The maximum amperage on the stop and turn light circuit is three amps per circuit, and on the taillight circuit it's five amps per circuit. Wiring harness we go to install this, like I say, they have a good set of instructions. Basically what you would want to do, start with the two harness and what you'll do is go behind the rear bumper and you'll see a gray plug that will have a cap on it. What you'll want to do on the vehicle is remove that cap and this plug should match up. Plug it in and then this would run to the back of the vehicle so you have your 4-way. Again, if any of this wire loom hangs down you can take some of these cable ties to pull up the slack of it. Now this other harness, which is the converter module harness, what this is, you'll go to the rear cargo area and in the rear cargo what you'll have to do is access a interior access panel. When you remove that then you'll see the white connector that this will plug into. It matches up. Plug that into that. Then you'll see you'll have this inline fuse holder that's empty. Take this 10-amp fuse. You'll go ahead and push it in. Put the cap on there to protect that. Then what you'll want to do is you'll want to attach this conveter module down so it doesn't bounce around. That's what the double face tape is for. Just put that on there and then attach this down. Then with all that connected the last thing you'll want to do is go to your fuse box in the front of the vehicle and you'll look in your owner's manual and see where the location is for this towing fuse. It's a 30-amp fuse that plugs into the fuse box. Once that's plugged in should be already to go. Should be able to tow your trailer with the 4-way connector. That should do it for the review on part number C56170. This is the CURT t-connector vehicle wiring harness for factory two package with the 4-way flat trailer connector. .

2015 Honda Pilot

We had a very hard time finding a wiring kit to fit our 2015 Honda Pilot 4WD. Most local autoparts stores couldn't recommend a part for our car because it's so new, and the dealership quoted $220 plus installation for a wiring harness. This is definitely the way to go! The package is labeled 2012-2014 Honda Pilot, but YES, it fits the 2015 Pilot perfectly. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. This kit is "plug and play." Took me about 20 minutes to install, while simultaneously watching my 3 month old daughter. This kit is four a 4 flat wire connector, common on small utility trailers. We needed it to hook up to a 6x12 U-Haul trailer. All the lights and signal worked perfectly, and even after I paid for rush shipping, we saved $150-200 compared to dealership prices. I highly recommend this product. 163574

Thank you for the product, it worked for my Honda Pilot. It was also delivered on time. The only thing I'd add is that the white connector was located behind the access door labeled "Auxiliary Fuse" slightly to the right of the access panel that the instructions said it would be in. Once we found that everything went smoothly. 283727

Installation instructions were good and easy to follow. Product has worked very well. Only unfortunate thing was the retainer tail on the rubber protective cap that covers the exterior plug. The slot in that tail tore through so it won't stay attached to the wiring when not in use. Only good luck has prevented me from losing it. 349517

Installation was maybe 15 minutes. Cost was good. I missed the part where you need to install fuse into the supplied harness so did not work initially but soon realized that I missed the fuse. Need to find a nice spot to mount the plug. Good and cheap. 522623

2014 Acura RDX

Worked fine on a 2014 Acura RDX. Documentation does not make it clear that the fuse must be placed in the under-hood fusebox nor does it even say that a fuse might be needed there and so I had to sleuth out that information on the etrailer website. I had installed one of these before on a different car type and in my previous experience the documentation for the other part did indicate the under-hood fuse might be needed. But for someone without previous experience installation might be more challenging. I suggest that the documentation simply include the comment, "a fuse in the under-hood fusebox might be necessary" and state the fuse position. On most newer cars the fusebox indicates which is for towing. 395926

excellent product , 4 pin trailer wire harness for 2015 Honda pilot was so easy to install , took maybe 10 minutes , every thing you need comes with the kit and is fail safe. it works grate and I know that there is no better product out there ,just as good as Honda's and cost less. the only thing I could add is the plug on the pilot under the back end has a button on the top and on the bottom that need to be pushed and the plug should come right out 485874

I was a little nervous about install. But this was super easy. The hardest part was removing the cap fro. The factory installed plug on my Pilot. Two plug ins, put in the fuse. And 'Bobs your Uncle!' Super easy!! Thanks E Trailer! 315029

The wiring harness was exactly what I needed for my 2015 Honda Pilot. The instructions were quite easy to follow step by step, and I had no issues what so ever in the installation. It took approximately less than 30 minutes to install, and when I hooked it up to my boat trailer connector, the parking, brakes and turn signal lights worked perfectly. I highly recommend this do-it-yourself product to anyone needing to save a few dollars out of pocket expense, rather than having the dealer install it for you. The dealer I purchased the vehicle from, quoted me a price of approximately $230.00 to 250.00 to have it installed by them. I saved almost $200.00 by installing the harness myself! Thank you etrailer.com! You saved me a few hard earned bucks! 237594

I'm a 30 year old woman and figured I could follow the directions and install it by myself. The install was easy, but I ended up having to ask my father for help. There were only 2 issues that I had. First, I could not get the cover of the gray trailer wiring harness connecter off that is located under the vehicle. I guess I wasn't strong enough to pull it off, but my dad was able to get it off. The second issue I had was that the directions did not say to install the red 10 amp fuse into the red box located on the CURT wiring connector (or I missed that step). So I had everything hooked up correctly, but the lights wouldn't work because that fuse was not put in. Once my dad came out to figure out what was wrong, he saw it right a way. If the directions had said to put that red fuse there, I would have been able to do that. Overall, I highly recommend this product. I saved a lot of money by doing it myself with this part, rather than taking it to the dealership to install it. It took me less than 30 minutes with also having to chase a 20 month old around our yard. Also, highly recommend Etrailer. Their 110% price matched saved me even more. Thank you! 235609

T connector for my new honda pilot fit exactly as advertised. It took about 45 minutes or so to complete and so far works like a charm.Be patient though when taking the cover off the connector under the vehicle.Pull the connector right off the frame then open it.It opens differently than most connectors so look at it and be careful.Would I recommend e-trailer? YES.By the way your videos on description and install of product are excellent. 186775

Because 4-Pole installation can vary, Curt does not include a mounting bracket with most of their wiring harnesses. Curt does offer a mounting bracket with part # C58303

This is a great product from e-trailer to make an easy connection from the factory Honda Pilot wiring harness to a four prong flat connector. The dealer wants to install a very expensive harness for a large trailer or camper with electric brakes etc. With online video and supplied instructions this is a snap to install and e-trailer was a pleasure to deal with. 713107

The only reason I didn't 5-star this review was the instructions left out the insertion of the 10 amp fuse into the harness (red cap on the main unit that is installed inside the Aux fusebox) - all other steps were clear, correct, but at first nothing worked. I then rechecked the package and figured out I needed to add the fuse. It mentions it on the front but not specifically. Otherwise I had this up and running in about 20 minutes, very happy! 674599

  • Dummy Cap for 4-Way Wiring Harness Won't Budge on 2011 Honda Pilot
You may need to use a pair of pliers to remove the dummy cap to install the Curt T-Connector # C56170 on your 2011 Honda Pilot. • Difference Between Trailer Wiring Harnesses 118558 and C56170
The biggest difference between the tow trailer wiring harnesses that would fit your 2012 Honda Pilot is that the # C56170 is made by the company Curt and the part # 118558 is made by Tow Ready. The Tow Ready does include a few more relays, but either harness would work well for you. We tend to have better luck with the Tow Ready harnesses though so I would recommend that one.

  • Hopkins Brake Controllers and Wiring Harnesses that Fit a 2015 Honda Pilot
We have a couple of different Hopkins brake controllers available. I recommend the Agility # HM47294 which is a more traditional controller with all the abilities anyone would seek. For a 2015 Honda Pilot that came with a factory 7-Way, or one that didn't but still has the functioning brake controller port you would need harness # HM47935. To install a 7-Way trailer connector use # 118265.
