This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Honda Civic

On this 2008 Honda Civic we're going to review and install a Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Part Number C56051. With this part number these are the parts you receive. Of course this is a our whole wire harness right here. This is our 4-Pole Flat Connector, with the cap. Our long length of 4-Pole wire goes to our converter box right here. It has a couple of T-Connectors. This green wire T-Connector goes to the passenger side.

The T-Connector, the yellow wire, goes to the drivers side. Also on the drivers side the T-Connector will pick up the break signal, and a running lights signal, with this T-Connector here. Bring terminal on the white wire to go to ground from the sheet metal on the vehicle. How this works, pretty simple. It basically takes the signals from the tail lights, goes into the converter box here. Got five wires going in, combines the break signal with the left and right turn signal and goes out to your trailer.

Some small parts, with an adhesive, part of our service mount technology that holds it in place; also some zip ties to help hold the wires and a self tacking screw for your ground wire. Now our wire harness is ready for three amps per circuit for stop and turn signals, which is equivalent to two tail lights in the back of your trailer. One for turn signal and breaks on each side and then a tail light circuit itself is ready for five amps. Which is good for the two running lights that are built into the tail lights and also a couple of running lights on the side of your trailer. Let's go ahead and install it into our vehicle. All our parts install inside the trunk area. Let's go ahead and open up the trunk and get access to the wires that are behind tail lights.

We need to raise up the floor covering; make it a little easier to remove a threshold and the side panels. I'm just going to use a simple strap, a piece of string or anything can be used just to help hold this up and out of the way for us. To remove a threshold we apply steady pressure from the bottom and pull straight up. Next we need to loosen up the liner here. There'll be three fasteners we have to remove, I think all plastic. We use a flat blade screw driver on the center to loosen them up.

We'll loosen up the centers and pull out the whole rivet. Now with complete access to our wiring connections right here we'll go ahead and complete the same process over on our passenger side. Now our vehicles ready to install our wire harness. We'll go ahead and do one circuit at a time. Remember our T-Connector for the yellow wire is a left turn signal. We actually turn it on then it'll be easy to identify when you see it glow. To disassemble it we push down on this little tab right here and pull it apart. Let's take our T-Connector, take the matching end to it, push it together until it snaps or clicks. Our other end will go right into the tail light. We'll do the same trick by turning on the running lights. That shows us our connection point will be right here. The little buttons kind of on the outside. Next connection we'll work with will be our white wire with the ring terminal. There's actually a factory ground by the threshold that we can use. We'll pull back the white wire and we'll attach it to the stud right here. We'll need a 10mm socket. Now let's go ahead and go over to our passenger side and we'll go ahead and install our T-Connector here. It's going to be in the same place as before. We'll then find a location to attach our module. We'll go ahead and clean off some sheet metal, and our converter box, with some rubbing alcohol and water mix, fifty-fifty. Take our adhesive, put it to our converter box. Now we'll take a few moments to zip tie our wires up. With everything hooked up and secure we'll go ahead and put our panels back into place, then we'll reinstall the plastic fasteners. We can go ahead and put our threshold back into place. Make sure this guy goes into a hole on the inside. Line it up, push it into place. Make sure the seal goes over the top of it and we'll be about finished. We can put our floor covering back into place. When our wire harness is not being used we'll keep it with the spare tire. When we do need to use it we'll simply pull it out, we'll bring it over the threshold and our door seals plenty thick where it won't hurt anything when we shut the hatch on it. We have more than enough to go down to our trailer hitch. Just for testing purposes we'll go ahead and just leave it here for now. We'll go ahead and get our tester. We'll go ahead and try our running light circuit first. All right now we'll try our left turn signal, and now our right turn signal. Then we'll go ahead and hit the break pedal. Looks like every things working. The tester we're using for this is actually Part Number F5CT from Brophy. With that that'll finish it for the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, Part Number C56051 on this 2008 Honda Civic.

Man I am very very pleased with both of my purchases I have recently made. I bought a trailier hitch receiver and the car trailer wiring harness for a 08 civic. They beat all the competition price wise and product wise. Autozone want $190 for the harness and would take time to ship they had it for $30 and got it in two days hooked up within 10minutes. 556574

Just received wiring harness for Honda Civic 2013. Piece of cake installation. The instructions are good and the referenced video better. Last week I installed harness on 2018 Honda CVR. Not a piece of cake. Pulled the panels out to install and could not find the module to plug in. Called etrailer and got a tech call back within three hours which I found to be great service on a Saturday afternoon. Took him about three minutes on a speaker phone to fix my problem. Works great and the price is very competitive. If you need help, these are the guys. 554717

Product installed fairly easily. I used it to pull a [rental trailer] full of equipment back from college for the summer. Was a little harder to install that I thought but I got the job done. The wiring was very easy. I'm happy. It works and aid for itself in one pull versus renting a truck. 511543

I was delighted with the instillation procedures and instructions. Thank you for the informative videos and wiring harness diagrams. There is a couple of things I would like to point out. One would imagine that most of us do not have a lift or another helper. Like me all I had was jack and a jack stand which creates a whole new dynamic of an installation. With this in mind it would of been so much easier to somehow stabilizethe long thin 1/2" metal strip with welded nut on end by using a throw away metal U-Shape clamp that would hug around the metal strip holding it firmly around the protruding corrugated corrugated beam structural beam which in turn stabilizes the metal strip, holding the nut firmly over the hole would then eliminate the need for a helper. Let me make it clear on did it all my self with use of duck tape. Further while I was laying on my back under the jack I held or balanced one end of the high bar with my feet and the other end with my 2 hands and after trial and error I finally got it installed after many attempts. There is almost to different ways to install with a helper and a lift and with out a helper Also great plug and play wiring harness. It would have been nice to had a video for that but after scouring the instructions and talking with my friend I got it. 194253
