Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2014 Honda Accord

Today on our 2014 Honda Accord 4-Door Sedan, we're going to be installing the Curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness with the 4-pole flat trailer connector, part number C56011. When you're ready to use your 4-flat wiring, you'll simply remove it from the storage area. We'll bring it out of the trunk making sure we stay away from the latch area as when the trunk is closed this could easily damage the wire. We'll push it in here on the weather stripping, so when we trunk is closed, it will push in and not damage the wire. We'll go ahead and close our trunk down. Here's what your 4-flat will look like when you're ready to use it. When you're done using your 4-flat wiring, you simply raise the trunk lid, take the 4-flat wiring, coil it up, and it will be stored down here next to the spare tire out of the way. Now, we'll keep our 4-flat wiring stored inside the trunk area to help protect it from the elements and give us years of service. Now, here's the tools that we're going to be using today to install our new Curt wiring harness.

We're going to be using a paper towel with a little rubbing alcohol, a ratchet with a 10 mm socket, a small flat head screwdriver, and a test light. We're going to first begin by opening up the rear trunk of the vehicle. We're going to go ahead and begin our installation by removing these three push fasteners right here on the driver side. Now to remove these push fasteners, we just simply going to use the small flat head screwdriver, slide it in between the two pieces of the fastener, pulling the center piece out, so you can see here how the center part lifts up. Go ahead and repeat the same process at the other two. Now with our three push fasteners removed over here on the driver side, we'll move over to the passenger side where we'll repeat the same process. Next, we'll go ahead and take the trunk covering here.

We'll just flip it forward. We're then going to need to remove this threshold piece here. To do that, you just simply reach underneath here, gently pull upward, release the tabs underneath. Go ahead and set that aside for now. Over here on the driver side, we'll go ahead and peel back the trunk lining, and right here and here are two connection points that we're looking for. Now to remove the connection from the backside of the taillight assembly, there is a locking tab on this outside here.

You'll need to squeeze in and pull outward. Go ahead and unplug the other connection point as well. Now, here's the two T-connections that we'll be making over here on our driver side. We'll be using the yellow wire and the red and the brown wire T-connectors. We'll line up the yellow wire T-connector with the three tab connection point. Go ahead and put that together, making sure that it fully clicks into position.

Go ahead then and take our other connection point, which it actually has four in it. Go ahead and put that one together as well. We can then connect the other end of our T-connectors back into the taillight assembly. We'll take the yellow connector, we'll put that in the top portion. We'll then take the brown and the red wire; that T-connector, that will connect in here on the bottom connection point. Next, we're going to need to add our ground wire into this location right here. This is the factor ground, so we'll be taking the white wire with the ring terminal already attached. We'll be adding in underneath this bolt here, so we'll go ahead and remove that first. Once we've added it in, we can go ahead and tighten the bolt back down. Next, we're going to go ahead and take a little rubbing alcohol on a paper towel. We're going to clean the back side of our converter box as well as our mounting location. We'll then take the piece of two-sided tape that comes with the kit. We'll need to peel the back side off. Put that on the back side of the box. We'll then go ahead and peel the other side off. Go ahead and push the box to the inside of the body here. Next, we're going to go ahead and take the green wire with the T-connector on it. We're going to route it along the back threshold here. Next, over here at the passenger side, we'll peel away the trunk lining. Now, this right here is the plug that we'll need to remove over here on the passenger side. It is the top one. Again, we'll squeeze in on the locking tab and pull the connection apart. We'll take the half of our T-connector, plug it into the factory wiring harness. Plug the other half into the backside of the taillight assembly. Now, we're ready to re-install the interior of the trunk in the reverse order that we removed it. Now, this does cover, or cover to protect the 4-flat connector comes with the kit. To install it, you take the end that has the slot in it. Slide it on to the 4-way connector. When it folds down, that little round piece in there will go down over the ground. It'll go on there just like this. This will help protect the 4-flat when not in use. Now, we'll go ahead and take our test light here. We're going to test to make sure that the functions of the 4-flat are working properly. Go ahead and take the ground of the test light, connect it to the open prong or the white wire. We'll then turn the running lights on. With the running lights on, we'll touch the brown wire. For the left turn, we'll touch the yellow wire. Right turn, we'll touch the green wire. For the brakes, we'll touch both the green and the yellow. As you can see here, all of our functions are working just fine. That will do it for the installation of the Curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness with a 4-pole flat trailer connector, part number C56011 , on our 2014 Honda Accord 4-Door Sedan. .

2013 Toyota Tacoma

I have a 2013 Honda Accord. I have a small 12' aluminum fishing boat with a trailer. We also have a Tacoma. When I do not have the Tacoma I can't fish, take the kids on the boat, and I can't go to the lumber yard or transfer station because I didnt have a hitch on the Accord. I did some research and saw etrailer. The website was easy to navigate, I was able to choose the right hitch for my car without guessing, and the wire harness was easy to pick out as well. I was told it would be a week for shipping, I got it in 3 days. The installation was pretty easy, take your time with fish wire, but it can be done. The light set up was all plug and play, nice and neat. I hooked up boat trailer, tested lights, and zipped around the neighborhood. Very excited to be able to pull small stuff with the Honda. The price was right, the shipping was right, the product fit like it said, and I am a happy customer! 413571

Nice product. Good materials. Straight forward install. Worked as it should without any fuss. I would have preferred a little more length of the wiring to work with and to stretch across the back of the trunk area however. 91962

This wiring harness was installed in conjunctionwith installing 2 inch receiver Hidden Hitch on my daughters 2013 Mazda CX5. Install was straightforward. I havent had any issues with the wiring harness function or interference with the vehicles wiringlighting. eTrailer has been a wonderful source to deal with. First retailer I have encountered that was interested in my satisfaction over a year after the sale. Im definitely a repeat customer.

The wiring directions were easily understood and installation went far more smoothly than installing the hitch. I'm 71 and I spent far too much time under my car, twisting, jockeying, using another set of hands, to finally bolt the hitch in place, compared to the wiring, which was a piece of cake job. 146024

My wife and I installed a 2" Curt trailer hitch (and wiring) on our 2015 Mazda CX-5. Total installation time was about 2 hours. We didn't have any problems with the instillation of the hitch or wiring. Etrailer has a video link available, which should be viewed before you begin your installation. However, there wasn't any audio with this. The hitch is solid and appears to be well built. Occasionally, we pull a small aluminum trailer loaded with kayaks, or other light items. We have ordered from Etrailer before and feel they are a good company to do business with. 151466

Weve had our Curt hitch for over a year now and it still looks like new. Were very satisfied and recommend Curt and Etrailer.

I am quite happy with this wiring kit! It truly is plug and play!! After watching the video, the install was quick and easy. I only deviated from the install video, where it concerns the ground wire. It says to use a drill and make a 3/32 hole and use the self tapping screw, if you can not find an existing place to mount the ground wire. On the CX-5 there is a perfectly placed nut that can be used, and you dont even need any extra tools above what the kit calls for. When you pull off the plugs for the drivers side tail lights, you will also see 3 10mm nuts that hold the tail light in place. Just remove the one below the brake light, and slip the ground wire over it and replace the nut. 411597

Comments

I havent had to pull any more trailers, but I have no doubt it will work just fine, the next time I need to unroll it from the spare tire well!

Second wiring harness I've ordered from etrailer.com. First was for a Honda Civic I was leasing. I now have an Accord Sport sedan and expect the installation to be as easy as the previous. Just pull some trunk panels and connect plugs to existing light fixtures. I already popped the one side to verify I have standard lights vs the LEDs. Looks even easier than the Civic was. Totally satisfied with the price and shipping/tracking of the order. 200895

I use the hitch mostly for my bicycle rack and it works as designed with no problems.I have tested the wiring harness and it operates the lights on my boat trailer also with no problems.Im happy with the products.

Chevrolet Volt

I haven't tested the flat 4 trailer converter that I bought and installed with an actual trailer yet, but based on the volt meter readings I made it seems to be working. My only complaint so far is with the installation instructions. They told me to remove the "rear scuff panel" (gray molded plastic piece that covers the rear of the trunk) but there was no clue as to how to do that. I found out how via a post to the internet, sort of, and ended up breaking one of the clips that holds it in place in the process. I suppose part of that problem lies with Honda for building non-servicable components (how hard would it have been for them to hold that thing in place with a sheet metal screw instead of one of the lame plastic clips that you can't get at once its engaged?) But since the product itself is car model specific, I think you guys could have done a better job with car model specific instructions that come with it and provided some clue as to how to get that panel off without breaking it. 541352

Took about 15 minutes to install the harness on a Honda Fit. Most of that time was spent watching and rewinding the video. Worked well with rental trailer. 607274

- C56011
by:

Very simple took less than 20 mins to hook up, watched the video a few times so knew pretty much what to do. Only issue was the wires from the left side felt short so the box was hard to get into an area that was flat but it was so tight that I was able to leave it an area so it wouldn't move at all. 601370

Install is missing more detail steps and warning that this is side sensitive which means that left turning signal may be on right side. That has happened to me so I did reverse sides to make it work. 579049

Comments

The written instructions do mention that the connector with the yellow wire be used on the drivers side and the connector with the green wire be used on the passenger side, but I do agree the instructions could have been clearer. We do have installation videos linked above that should make the process a bit more clear.

This was recommended to me by Angela when I called to order the rest of my hitch system. I watched the video on their website before I started the install. (I really like and appreciate that they create and have these videos for us to use.) This wiring kit is, hands down, the easiest trailer wiring kit I've ever installed. Truly plug and play. No crawling around on the ground and fishing wires through holes. Connections were perfect and it works great. 574046

The first thing to do is to test the trailer wiring harness # C56011 using a circuit tester such as # ALL640595 or a meter if you have one. Basically you will be testing the wires going into the converter box from the vehicle first. Have another person sit in the vehicle and operate the brake lights/pedal while you test the input wiring for the harness. If you do not get a brake signal when doing this test then...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for 2015 Mazda CX-5
  • The Curt Trailer Wring T-Connector, part # C56011 does indeed fit your 2015 Mazda CX-5. If you click the provided link, you can see the wiring being installed on a 2014 CX-5. The procedure on your vehicle would be identical. If you're needing a hitch, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class III, part # 76138. You'd also need a ball mount, part # 2753 and a trailer ball. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, use part # 19261 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.

  • T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness For 2016 Mazda CX-5 With LED Lights
  • The correct Curt wiring harness for your 2016 Mazda CX-5 is part # C56310. The connectors changed between 2015 and 2016 for the CX-5 and the # C56011 will not work with your 2016. Per my Curt contact, the # C56310 will work fine with the LED lights on your CX-5. You just need to access the wiring connection points in the rear cargo area and then run a hot lead to the car battery. This harness includes a tail light converter that keeps the electrical system on your vehicle from being...

  • Comparing Tow Ready # 118563 and Curt # C56011 Wiring Harnesses for 2016 Mazda CX-5
  • The Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118563 is a correct fit for your 2016 Mazda CX-5. The other harness offered, Curt # C56011, does not fit your 2016 CX-5 due to a change in connectors from the 2015 model year. Note that there are two major advantages to using the Tow Ready harness. First, this harness will isolate and protect your new vehicle's wiring from any potential shorts or overloads from the trailer because it draws power for the trailer directly from the battery,...

  • Recommended Equipment Needed for Pull a Trailer With 2" Coupler With a 2013 Honda Civic Sedan Si
  • For a trailer hitch receiver that is confirmed to fit your 2013 Honda Civic I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24763 which is a Class I, 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver. Since all of the Euro ball mounts fit a Class II hitch receiver you will need to use a different style. The Draw-Tite # 3593 ball mount is what we recommend using. You can use part # 19258 for a 2 inch diameter hitch ball. Don't forget that you will also need trailer wiring as well. Since your...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness For 2016 Honda Civic Sedan
  • We do have a wiring kit that will work with your 2016 Civic but they require hardwiring the harness on your vehicle. Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # C56011 is not a confirmed fit for your 2016 Civic. The harness I recommend for your Civic is the Tow Ready Upgraded Circuit Protected Modulite with 4 Pole Harness, part # 119179KIT. This kit comes with the circuit tester included to make it easier to identify the correct wires behind the vehicle tail lights when installing...

  • Where Does a Tail Light Trailer Wiring Harness Install on a 2013 Honda Accord
  • For a 2013 Honda Accord you should be using Curt wiring harness # C56011 or Tow Ready harness # 118420. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view. The connectors on the right side should be directly behind the trunk panels and trim that you have to pull out of the way just like on the drivers side. The Curt harness # C55502 only goes up to the 2012 Honda Accord.

  • What is the Difference Between Trailer Wiring Harnesses for the 2013 Mazda CX-5
  • For the 2013 Mazda CX-5 the Tow Ready wiring harness # 118563 is a powered converter that requires a direct connection to the vehicle battery to power the trailer lights. This protects the vehicle wiring and electrical components from damage. Because this unit uses a powered converter it will have a higher amperage rating (if the trailer has a lot of lights) than the Curt harness. The Curt harness # C56011 does not require a connection to the battery so it gets all of the power from...

  • Is There a Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Towing a 2,000 Pound Boat
  • A popular trailer hitch for your 2014 Mazda CX-5 is the Curt Class-II # C12170. It will have a 3,500 pound towing capacity and 350 pound tongue weight capacity. I did some research on your CX-5 and it seems to have a 2,000 pound maximum towing capacity. I would double-check your owners manual because you will not want to exceed it. The custom wiring is # C56011 and ball mount kit I would go with is # 989891 (2 trailer hitch balls to fit different applications, ball mount with 3/4...

  • What is the Towing Capacity of a 2013 Honda Accord Sedan V6
  • You are correct, the 2013 Honda Accord sedan does have a listed towing capacity of 1,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 100 pounds tongue weight. Even though the hitches available, such as Curt hitch # C11681, are rated higher you will still need to go by the capacity listed in the vehicle owners manual. The correct ball mount to use with this hitch and vehicle is # C45521. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. For trailer wiring, if your Accord has LED...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Lights Not Working on 2007 Honda Fit
  • For your 2007 Honda Fit, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56011 you ordered is the correct fit. Since nothing works and it is not a powered wiring harness, I recommend you first check your ground wire. If the ground wire is not on bare metal, and having a strong connection the harness will not work. Next, I recommend you check your fuses. There are not specific towing fuses because according to page 164 of your owners manual your vehicle...

  • Troubleshooting 2016 Mazda CX-5 Wiring Harness and Trailer Lights That Hyperflash
  • Since LED-type trailer lights use so little power as compared to the standard incandescent type bulbs - about one-tenth as much - there can be weird interactions when a trailer with LED lighting is connected to a vehicle wiring harness intended for standard bulbs. It sounds like perhaps the wiring harness you installed is not the correct one for your CX-5. If your car has LED taillights then the correct wiring harness for it is Tow Ready # 118563. If the car does NOT have LED taillights...
