Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Just as easy to install as described in video. If your car is low like mine, make sure to raise it of the ground.

GMC Terrain

Product easily installed and works well. Directions very clear although I did route the right rear connection a bid different than presented and connected the main power to a line previously used by and original installer. He did not use the fuse but I did as directed. I think that is why I needed to install a new unit.

by:
2011 ChevroletEquinox

This kit was exactly perfect on the install, fit and function. It went great w/ my new etailer hitch, put this on a 2011 Chevy Equinox and it looks great. The online video, and transcript were very helpful and a good idea to watch before trying it on your own. Just by watching you learn the little tricks you need to know.

by:

After watching the video it was pretty easy. Took longer than the hitch itself (about an hour) due to taking the needed time to ensure the green wire on passenger side was secure, and routing and securing the black wire to the battery. If I would have had the vehicle on a lift, it would have been quicker. Looks as if it was professionally installed. Great product, great service from etrailer.

Purchase the Curt #56094 (listed as-"Alternate Wiring Harness") instead, don't purchase this one.
Check the videos on both. With this one (118494), you have to run a wire all the way from the back of the vehicle to the front and then make a Battery connection. This one costs quite a bit more and isn't worth it. The Curt #56094 is an excellent, quality product that is very quick and easy to install. Save yourself both time and money. Curt trailer products are second to none.

I work for a nationwide hitch sales and installation business. unfortunately my store does not carry full lines of lighting products. I found your site, was so impressed with your inventory and selection that I ordered a light kit for a customer, delivered it to him, showed him the instructions, and he installed it himself. Please dont tell anyone, (I will use you again, thanks)

2010 ChevroletEquinox

Instaling the hitch to the car was very easy and the instuctions were very clear.. Installing the wiring harness was easy also but I think the attachment of the mudule via double sided tape needs more work... not sure if that is going to stay attached with just the tape... Over all it was an easy installation and am very pleased with the products...

by:

Instructions should include exact placement of the module behind the tail light. Green wire harness going to the right tail light could have been six inches longer. I had to tuck it behind the weatherstripping at the bottom of the tailgate opening to have enough. Otherwise it worked out fine.

2012 ChevroletEquinox

Too bad there is not a rating higher thanExcellent. This product worked well. The installation video on YouTube was most excellent and VERY helpful. Watching the videos helped me decide to buy from etrailer.com on both the Curt hitch and trailer wiring module package. I installed my hitch in about 45 minutes on 2012 Equinox and the trailer wiring kit in about the same time.
Also I had occasion to call and speak with one of the agents at trailer.com, she was very helpful and cordial. Great place to order from and to deal with, the best !!! I do not have any photos to post but the YT Videos do a great job of showing how it really looks.

2012 ChevroletEquinox

The printed instructions and video are spot on. Good product, pretty easy to install if you are comfortable and/or familiar with minor electrical work (splicing and crimping). The only reason I did not rate as excellent is because I could not mount the T-connector black box behind the taillight (where the instructions suggested) because the wiring harness was not long enough. I had to mount on the undercarriage and may I may need to retrofit with some sort of securing device because I am not sure how long the double side tape will last. My only other challenge was deciding where I wanted to route the wire running from the battery terminal back to the driver side taillight. Additionally, you may want to have some extra and longer zip ties on hand. I used several more than what was supplied and found that I need some longer zip ties based on where I routed the wire along the frame.

Overall I am satisfied with the end result, they work perfectly!

2010 ChevroletEquinox

The product works perfectly on my 2010 Chevy Equinox. It is a bit of a pain to run the power wire from the back of the vehicle to the front. However, it just takes a bit of time to make sure the wire is routed and secured properly.

I've been a customer of etrailer for many years, and purchased a variety of items. This wiring harness was just what we needed when adding a hitch to our recently-rehabbed salvage vehicle ('15 Chevy Equinox). Now it's worth more than twice what we paid for it! etrailer made sure we got the right harness the first time. Great service and prices!

One year later and after hauling furniture, building materials, and tons of other stuff- the hitch and wiring are performing perfectly. Would definitely recommend this brand of wiring harness, and of course, eTrailer for helping me the right one!

it works but had to remove fender lights could not handle the load. but I had 22 tail and running lights. they were vary dim. removed fender lights [4 of them] not needed for reg. or inspection. now all 18 are bright as should be. And trailer is legal . fender lights can live with out. now at least I can set on them.

The wiring kit (118494) went together flawlessly, everything hooked up perfectly. I also installed a draw-tite hitch (76028) which also went in flawlessly. This should work great to pull my enclosed trailer and to hook my bicycle rack to. Thanks for a great product.

  • Which Trailer Wiring Harness for 2020 Chevy Equinox
The wiring harness you need will depend on whether or not you have the Premiers sub-model or not. For the Premier, you'd use # 118759 or # 118750 if it's not the Premier model. There's also a third less expensive possibility....if your Equinox has the factory tow package with the connector behind the bumper on the driver's side (see provided photo), you could use # C94FR. The # 118494 you'd looked at is for an earlier model Equinox, and wouldn't work on your 2020 model.

  • Towing Capacity of a 2012 GMC Terrain
According to the owner's manual for your 2012 GMC Terrain you are limited to a maximum gross trailer weight (GTW) of 1,500 lbs if you have the 2.4L I4 engine and 3,500 lbs if you have the 3.0L V6 engine. Therefore, as long as the trailer does not exceed the vehicle's GTW then you can tow it. In order to tow a trailer with your Terrain you will need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball if you do not already have them. For a trailer hitch I recommend the etrailer Trailer...

These are direct plug-in kits that provide a standard four way trailer connector which is the most common type and most widely used. The receiver locations are identical and the crosstubes and mounting brackets are hidden behind the fascia/bumper. Considering that Curt trailer hitch # 13591 does not mount to the bumper but to the frame of the 2013 Chevy Equinox like you said your bumper will be just fine. The smaller Class II hitches also attach to the vehicle in the same places so I am not sure what they are talking about.
