Rightline Gear Roof Bag - RL100B90

Road trip! If you like the aerodynamic fit of a hitch carrier but need to tow a trailer, add a cargo saddlebag that rests on the back of your vehicle. The carrier hangs from your roof rack for a sleek fit that reduces wind drag, saves gas money.

Features:

  • Cargo saddlebag hangs from roof rack to rest on the back of your van or SUV for easy-to-access storage
    • Great alternative to a hitch-mounted cargo carrier when you are already towing a trailer
    • Does not cause the aerodynamic drag that's common with rooftop cargo bags - saves you gas money
  • Waterproof material is 600-denier, woven polyester with PVC inner layer
    • Helps keep cargo clean and dry
    • Blocks UV rays to help prevent fading - rated UPF 50
  • Urethane-coated zipper and 1-1/4" protective flap keep water out
  • Tent-pole-like framing in the bottom adds support and structure for loading gear
  • Roof protection pads help to keep the straps from rubbing on your roof
  • License plate sleeve on the rear of the bag lets you relocate your plate if the bag covers it
  • Zipper pulls can be locked using a Rightline cable lock (RL100640 - sold separately)
  • Built-in straps attach the saddlebag to the back of your vehicle and your roof rack
    • Top straps are threaded through your roof-rack side rails or rear crossbar and joined with a plastic clip
    • Bottom straps attach to your bumper or hitch, or underneath your bumper
    • Long support strap belts the bag tightly to your hatch
  • Saddlebag car clips RL100605 - sold separately allow you to attach the Saddlebag to a vehicle without a roof rack
  • Sturdy handles on each side help you install and remove the carrier

Specs:

  • Application: SUVs, minivans and crossover vehicles with roof racks
    • Vehicles must have at least 40" of space between the tail lights
  • Carrying capacity: 13 cu ft
  • Weight capacity: 100 lbs
  • Dimensions: 40" long x 20" wide 28" tall
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: Do not exceed your roof rack's weight capacity when using the cargo saddlebag. Add the weight of all the cargo on the roof plus the weight of the packed carrier to be sure the total does not exceed your roof's carrying capacity.

The Rightline Gear saddlebag carrier can save you gas money. Most roof-mounted carriers create wind drag, which will reduce your vehicle's fuel economy. This cargo bag rests on the back of your vehicle, so it's more aerodynamic than roof-mounted cargo carriers. The saddlebag also stays cleaner, avoiding most of the rain and bug splatter that plague rooftop cargo carriers. And if you normally use a hitch-mounted carrier to haul cargo but need to tow a trailer, you can stash your extra gear in this vehicle backpack instead.

Loads and Unloads Quickly

Pack Right cargo saddlebag resting on back of SUV

It can be hard to get to a roof cargo carrier to access your gear, but this bag stows your stuff within easy reach. There's no climbing on your vehicle to grab something from the carrier. Load the saddlebag either before you hang it on your vehicle or while it's suspended from the back. A handle on each side of the saddlebag carrier makes the bag easy to lift on and off your vehicle.

This cargo bag is also great if you're already carrying skis, snowboards, bikes or another cargo bag on your roof and need a place to carry more luggage.

Tent Pole Framing Helps Saddlebag Hold Its Shape

Tent-pole framing on bottom of Rightline Gear PackRight saddle bagCloseup of steel framing on bottom of Rightline Gear saddle bag

Lightweight tent-pole-like framing on the bottom helps the bag hold its shape so that it doesn't fold over onto itself. This makes it easier to load and unload your cargo.

Protects Your Gear

Rightline Gear WeatherGuard material and PVC lining

The Rightline Gear saddlebag is made of Hydrotuff material - 600-denier, woven polyester backed with a PVC inner layer that keeps out moisture.

The PVC material is also strengthened with a nylon grid for added durability. This waterproof fabric stays flexible in hot or cold temperatures so it can be folded compactly for storage. For added assurance that your gear will stay dry, the PVC mesh material is fused together at the seams to create a watertight seal. This specially designed fabric also blocks 98 percent of UV rays to help prevent fading and keep the bag looking great for years to come.

Installs Easily

Rightline Gear cargo saddlebag hanging from rear crossbar of luggage rackPack Right cargo bag straps attached to vehicle hitch

The saddlebag rests on the back of your vehicle, suspended from your roof rack's side rails or rear crossbar by two sturdy straps. Two bottom straps on the bag attach to your bumper or hitch, or underneath your bumper.

Padding between vehicle and cargo straps of Rightline Gear saddle bag

Soft pads at the top of each cargo strap protect your vehicle from scratches while the bag hangs from your luggage rack.

Pack Right cargo bag with long strap tightened like a belt to hold the saddlebag in place

Tighten the long support strap around the bag and your vehicle's hatch like a belt.

If you don't have a roof rack, you can mount the bag on the top of your hatch door using saddlebag car clips (RL100605 - sold separately).

To lock up the bag during pit stops, run a Rightline Gear locking cable (RL100640 - sold separately) through the cutouts in the zipper pulls.

License plate sleeve on Rightline Gear cargo bag

The saddlebag comes with a license plate sleeve so that you can display your plate even if the bag is blocking a clear view of your tag.

Drawstring storage bag for Rightline Gear cargo saddle bag

The bag also includes a sack for storage. And the setup instructions are sewn into the stuff sack, so you'll always be ready to saddle up and go.

Video Transcript for Rightline Gear Cargo Hatch Saddlebag Manufacturer Review

This is the Rightline Gear Cargo Saddle Bag. Its the only car back carrier on the market today. It saves you five miles to the gallon over car top carriers. It sits down low which gives you easy loading and access to your gear and fits on any vehicle with our without a roof rack, as long as you have 40 inches between your taillights. The cargo saddle bag is 100% waterproof. Its constructed using Rightlines dual seam technology. The seams are sewn for strength and then welded waterproof.

It also has a urethane coated zipper.Other great features include a bottom pole frame providing structure and rigidity when the bag is loaded, a zipper that opens three-quarters of the way around, a license plate sleeve, and five handles so that you can carry the bag directly into your destination. The Cargo Saddle Bag attaches to the cross bars or the side rails of your roof rack. If your vehicle doesnt have a roof rack, you can purchase these cargo saddle bag car clips which attach the straps to the gap in between the hatch and the roof. After the top is secure, you attach the two bottom straps to the hitch, the bumper, or something behind the bumper. If there is nothing down below, you can use this belt strap to go around the middle of the bag, inside the car and around the hatch door securing it in place.Once your trip is over, you can separate the bottom pole frame and store everything in this stuff sack.

Thanks for rushing my Packright Saddlebag to me. This is my 3rd one. I LOVE IT. Also add camping gear above it in the summer. Use it in my business travels. People stop me all the time & ask about it. Will refer them to you. 499962

We used this for vacation this year and it worked wonderfully. In the past we have always used to rooftop carriers but I always found those hard to maneuver. This is very easy to attach and load/unload. Plus you can store it in a closet on vacation. Highly recommend. 83533

Would the saddlebag work on a 2009 Rav 4 with the spare tire still attached to the back door?

-- comment by: Jim M - 07/13/2013

I called up Rightline and found out that it will not work on the back of vehicle with a rear mounted spare: RAV 4, CR-V, Wrangler. The bag sits too far from the vehicle to work. We do have a spare tire mounted cargo basket that may work out for you. It's from Surco, part SPSJ4319.

thanks for the review...We are planning for a 2000Miles trip in couple of months and will be driving a 15 seater Van Chevrolet Express. Will this fit on it. It has sliding doors on side and double door at the back.thanks.

It could be used on your Express van. If you do not have any sort of roof rack or roof rails, you will also need to add part RL100605. These are clips that will allow you to secure the top straps to the top edges of the double doors. Do keep an eye on these as you load the bag.

This bag held a lot and was fairly easy to mount on my Subaru, even tho I had failed to buy the needed clips. The zipper was hard to use, but very sturdy. However, it leaked!! It was on the back of my car through an all-night soft rain and by the time I arrived an hour away at our location, half of the things inside needed to be dried out somewhat. That was very disappointing. So I will not trust its' rain-worthiness again. 388645

Love this bag! We load all our snowmobile gear in it and put it in the bed of our pick up truck. Keeps it dry during our driving trip and it’s only one trip to/from Truck to motel room. Great investment ! 466402

Very pleased with how quickly this shipped and I received it. I assembled in a few minutes. I can tell that this product is built to be waterproof, and will be able to withstand wear and tear of the road. From the directions this looks easy to install. The nice thing about this product is it can be loaded and then strapped on instead of trying to load it on top of the car! 471177

Product worked out great. We used it while camping last weekend. TRhe only disadvantage is that it hangs right on the air fin above the rear window. We are worried it may casue it to break. We have a couple of ideas how to rectify this, and will let you know how it goes. Also, customer service was great. I had questions, and there was a helpful, quick response. 218537

Nice products well constructed. fits all my surf and ski stuff. The only cons is getting it to be squared when it is not fully filled.Specially when mixing clothes and ski boos and anything harder I ended up using a PVC box in the inside to give it the from I needed. 249093

I have a 2008 Ford Edge...will this work for it. The Edge has that spoiler looking flair off the back made of plastic, and I am worried the straps, when weighted down, will break that spoiler off. What do you think?

-- comment by: Josh S - 04/25/2014

It would depend on what you're hauling in the bag. If you're hauling anything of weight, I would steer clear of this bag because those top straps will have a lot of weight. A hitch mounted carrier or roof mounted carrier or bag would be better. Does your Edge have a hitch or any type of a roof rack or rails?

Rightline Gear doesn't have a fit guide for this item, it's not really vehicle specific. As long as you have a roof rack that you can attach the straps to and some good anchor points on the underside like a hitch, the bag should work.

Worked Great! kept everything dry. We mounted a bike rack, under and behind it, using a hitch step extension. We looked like the Beverly Hill Billies with everything we had on the back but we had zero issues! 402019

  • The Rightline 13-Cubic-Foot Cargo Hatch Saddlebag for Vehicles with Roof Racks, part # RL100B90, has a 100-lb capacity as you noted, but it is a good idea to check the owners manual for your vehicle to confirm what the roof rack weight limit is. I think your best option would be to install a hitch on your vehicle and use a hitch mounted cargo carrier with a cargo bag. For a hitch I would recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24826. This...

  • Will Water Leak Into a 2010 Nissan Rouge When Using a Roof Mount Cargo Bag for Bare Roofs
  • Even if you were to use a cargo bag that can install on a naked roof water should not be able to leak into the vehicle. The weather stripping on the inside of the doors should still prevent that from happening. I have not heard of any complaints yet of water getting in. The saddlebag is meant to be held flat against the rear hatch of the vehicle, and the spare tire would prevent that.
