High-Output Capacity

e4500R outlets

The e4500R etrailer generator produces 4,500 watts of power to get you up and running whether you're at the campsite, at the worksite, or faced with an emergency. This powerful generator comes with (2) 120V outlets for powering household appliances, tools, and electronic devices. It features (1) 120V L5-30R twist-lock outlet for large appliances and motorized tools with greater electrical demands.

e4500R RV connection

Lastly, it has (1) 120V TT-30R outlet for a RV connection, ensuring you'll have access to electricity no matter where you take your RV or if there's a power outage at the campground.

Easy Remote Start Engine

e3200R remote control

The generator's engine is designed to start up easily so you can power up faster and without hassle. The key to this easy startup is the electric starter. In conjunction with the remote, turning on your generator becomes remarkably easy and worry-free. Simply turn the fuel valve to "on" and flip the engine switch to the "run" position. Then, push the battery power restore switch for a few seconds and release. At the push of a button on the remote, the generator will fire up and be ready to go.

Before starting your generator, ensure nothing is connected to the outlets. Start your generator and let the engine run for a few minutes to warm up and stabilize. Check to make sure the circuit breaker is in on position before continuing. Once the generator is up and running, you may connect your electrical loads. To follow the recommended order of operation, connect the device with the highest starting watts first, like your air conditioner or refrigerator, and work your way down to the device with the lowest starting watts. By connecting devices in this order, you can make the most of your generator's capacity through connecting high wattage loads when there is more power available.

Safety Features

The e4500R generator comes with a number safety features designed to protect both you and the generator itself. The 4-in-1 Data-Minder monitors voltage, frequency, oil, and running hours. Simply press the select button to switch the information on the digital display.

e4500R data minder

When the generator is low on oil, a light-up indicator in Data-Minder turns on and the engine will automatically shut down to prevent damage. If an overload is detected, either by exceeding the generator's limits or a power surge, the circuit breaker will stop supplying power to the connected devices. A built-in spark arrester helps prevent any sparking that might burn someone or start a fire, protecting both you and the environment. This arrester has been certified by the USDA Forest Service. Also, an automatic voltage regulator assists in minimizing voltage fluctuations which helps to maintain a steady flow of electricity.

Choosing a Generator

To choose a generator that meets your needs, you must match the size of the generator (that is, the starting output and running output in watts) with the electrical demands of the equipment that you want to operate.

Power Demands

Starting (surge) wattage is the power a device requires at startup. Running (rated) wattage is the power needed to keep the device running. A large appliance with an electric motor such as a furnace, refrigerator, air conditioner, or washing machine may require 2 to 3 times more starting wattage than running wattage.

It is always best to start your generator with no load connected, then add each device one at a time. Additionally, a good practice to consider is connecting your devices in order from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts. As you connect and start devices, your available wattage decreases. This order of operation allows you to start devices with the highest power demands when there is more power available.

Will This Generator Run My RV Air Conditioner?

At etrailer, we perform numerous tests on generators to put them through real-world experience. An extensive part of this testing includes starting and running RV air conditioners. The following table will help you decide if the e4500R generator has enough power to handle this critical function in your RV.

Determining Your Power Needs

When choosing a generator, knowing the amount of power you will need is crucial to your decision. Whether you are preparing for an emergency situation at home or taking a weekend trip in the RV, planning out your application is essential. The two calculations below provide power estimations that will help point you to a generator that is right for your needs.

Industry Standard Calculation

The Industry Standard Calculation is a quick and easy way to determine your required wattage. It may provide some padding in your wattage requirements, which could give you more power than you actually need, but you shouldn't have to worry about not having enough power. The following steps will help you quickly calculate the correct size generator to meet your application.

As stated earlier, you should always start your generator without any load, and then connect each device one at a time. The following calculation requires this approach to work. However, using this calculation removes the worry of connecting devices in a certain order.

1. Determine the starting watts and running watts for the devices that you want to plug into the generator.

a. Find the starting (surge) watts and running (rated) watts for each device that you want to plug into the generator. Look for a sticker or plate on each device or check your owner's manuals.

b. If your device or manual only shows amps and volts, watts can also be determined through a simple formula. (Amps x Volts = Watts)

c. List all of your starting watts and running watts as seen in Table 1 below.

Table 1

Example DevicesStarting WattsRunning Watts
Air compressor2,0001,000
Refrigerator1,600800
Microwave01,000
Blender850400

2. To find the total starting watts required, add the starting watts for the device with the highest value to the running watts of all the other devices from Table 1.

2,000 + 800 + 1,000 + 400 = 4,200 total starting watts

3. To find the total running watts, add all of the running watts together from Table 1.

1,000 + 800 + 1,000 + 400 = 3,200 total running watts

To run all of these devices simultaneously, you would require a generator with at least 4,200 starting watts and 3,200 running watts.

Advanced Precise Calculation

While the method for calculating your power needs outlined above will work, it isn't the most precise. If you aren't afraid of doing a little more math, you can use the Advanced Precise Calculation to get a more accurate idea of how much power you will need and potentially save yourself some money. Because the calculation above pads in enough power to ensure you can start your devices in any order, it may point you to a bigger and more expensive generator than you need. However, by following the more regimented, order-of-operations calculation below, you'll get a much more precise idea of how much power you need, which could in turn point you to a smaller and less expensive generator.

Again, you should always start your generator without any load, and then connect each device one at a time. The following calculation also requires that you start your devices in order from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts. When you connect devices in this order, you can start high demand devices when there is more power available.

1. Determine the starting watts and running watts for each device that you want to plug into the generator.

a. Find the starting (surge) watts and running (rated) watts for each device that you want to plug into the generator. Look for a sticker or plate on each device or check your owner's manuals.

b. If your device or manual only shows amps and volts, watts can also be determined through a simple formula. (Amps x Volts = Watts)

c. List out these devices from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts as seen in Table 2 below.

Table 2

Example DevicesStarting WattsRunning Watts
Air compressor2,0001,000
Refrigerator1,600800
Microwave01,000
Blender850400

2. To find the total running watts, add all of the running watts together from Table 2.

1,000 + 800 + 1,000 + 400 = 3,200 total running watts

3. In Table 3, shown below, the values from Table 2 are used to calculate the highest total starting watts required as devices are connected and running. This number represents the highest power requirement you will encounter as you connect all of your devices to the generator. To find this, add the starting watts of each new device you connect to the combined running watts of all connected devices. The highest of these numbers will be the total starting watts required. And again, remember to always connect devices in order from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts.

Table 3

DeviceStarting WattsRunning Watts of All Connected DevicesTotal Starting Watts Required
1. Air compressor2,000 +0 (nothing connected)= 2,000
2. Refrigerator1,600 +1,000 (air compressor)= 2,600
3. Microwave1,000* +1,800 (air compressor + refrigerator)= 2,800
4. Blender850 +2,800 (air compressor + refrigerator + microwave)= 3,650

* Even though the microwave does not have starting watts listed, you have to account for the power needed to actually run it.

850 + 2,800 = 3,650 highest total starting watts required

In order to run all of these devices simultaneously, you would require a generator with at least 3,650 starting watts and 3,200 running watts. The starting watts are determined by the highest total starting watts required during the calculation in Table 3/Step 3. The running watts are determined by the total running watts from Step 2.

Video Transcript for etrailer Generators - No Inverter - 333-0004 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the etrailer 4500-Watt Portable Gas Generator with Electric Start. Now this generator will provide a nice portable power source, has an overhead valve engine for longer life, higher performance, lower maintenance. It does use a cast iron sleeve engine for durability, and also has automatic low oil shut down protection. It does use a fuel economy mode to reduce fuel consumption for most engine efficiency, and it is a wireless remote electric start, does include the wireless remote itself. So you can start and stop this generator up to 55 yards away, and if you notice it you can store it in this integrated storage compartment with the cover on it to protect it from the elements and so you know where it's at and you don't lose it.The cover's on the front here. They also have protectors on them. They protect the outlets from any dirt, dust, or debris.

We're going to go through each outlet. The first one we'll start here. This is a 120 volt 30 amp twist lock design. Put the cover back on it. The one in the middle, little bit bigger one, that is your 120 volt 30 amp RV design, and again it also has a cover on it to protect it. And on the very end, it gives us a 120 volt 20 amp duplex, again with the nice cover to protect it.Has a nice conveniently located multi-feature control panel, right over here.

Has a 4-in-1 data-minder, this will monitor your running hours, voltage, and frequency, also even offers a low oil indicator light. Right down here is your engine start switch, and up here is your electric start switch. Right over here, this button here is to connect your remote to the generator. It does use a high leverage single folding handle here, with a nice grip on it for easy maneuvering. It's all made with a durable compact roll cage frame design, 1 inch steel tubing. And if you notice right here on the back, they do use the heavy duty 8 inch oversized flat free wheels and tires. The starting search power output on this is 4500 watts.

The running rated power output is 3600 watts. Continuous runtime at half load is 14 hours. Noise level on this is 16 decibel. And right over here, you can see it does have a whisper series muffler, with a USDA FS certified spark arrest. The engine type, right over here, it's a 208-cc single cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke overhead valve. Right here, here's your recoil starter.

Has the fuel valve right here, and your air filter is right in here. Also a nice little added feature, right here where this is hanging from there is a bottle opener right here. The fuel tank, right on top here. It's a gasoline fuel tank, fuel tank capacity is 5 gallons. Fuel gauge is right here, and right up at the top in the very middle is your fuel cap.Oil capacity on this is 20.3 ounces, about .6 of a quart. Show you here, your oil filler cap is right down here, and your battery is right there next to it. The oil type you use in this is an SAE 10W-30. Rated AC voltage on this is 120 volts. Power line frequency is 60 hertz.Does include everything shown here on the table. The generator itself. It comes with a bottle of engine oil, 18 ounces. A nice oil funnel, with the extended so you can reach that oil filler cap down in there. A tool kit, and even a nice owners manual that'll describe how to operate it and how to put it all together. The dry weight on this generator is 119 1/2 pounds. Dimensions, it's about 23 1/4 inches long. Height of it, is about 21 3/8 inches tall, and the overall width on it is going to be about 21 3/4 inches wide. But that should do it, for the review on the etrailer 4500-Watt Portable Gas Generator with Electric Start.

I had trouble at first trying to figure out why it was running rough and not putting out power. Eventually I found the choke and it was stuck on. I assume it is shipped that way but it made no mention of the fact in the start up instructions. 643356

I'm first to review this product, which means I didn't have anything to read before purchasing. I really wasn't worried about it because etrailer is consistently awesome. I have to say that Bread financing is a good move for etrailer. They're the real reason I made this purchase. Shipping estimated a 5 business day ship, but there was a delayed UPS truck and it took 6. Not bad at all. It came styrofoam packed and intact and the setup video tutorial was easy to follow. I removed the shipping brackets, installed the wheels, attached the handle, attached the battery negative, poured in the oil, gassed it up, flipped on the engine switch, battery switch, and fuel switch, set the choke to start, ran to the other side of the property, and held the remote start for 3 seconds. It started up like a dream first crank and was surprisingly quiet from about 100'. I grabbed the 25' extension cord from my solar generator's inverter and plugged it into the 15 amp outlet on this generator. That ran into the tent to a surge protector for lights and all kinds of chargers. Now I'll be able to run my 600/900/1500 watt portable heater fan through the winter and won't even have to go out into the cold to start the generator. I also plugged in my 3 amp Battery Tender to my deep cycle for a little boost. This generator is definitely worth it, and with Bread offering to finance the purchase for about 25 bucks a month, there really wasn't an excuse not to get this. I would take pictures, but etrailer has better. 555932

  • Difference Between Generators With or Without an Inverter
  • The difference between a generator that has an inverter, like part # 333-0003, and a generator that doesn't have an inverter, like part # 333-0004, is that the inverter makes it so that the generator can supply power for both AC and DC applications. • An engine warmup delay is programmed into the remote start cycle. After the generator is running, there will be a delay of electrical output for 15 seconds. A delay also occurs after pushing STOP on the remote, so the electric load is automatically disconnected when using the remote. This prevents the low voltage situation you mentioned.

  • Can etrailer.com Generator and Power Converter Charge 12 Volt RV Battery Bank
  • Do you have a voltage converter to take 12 volts down to 6 volts for your golf cart batteries? Or are they wired in series so that they have an output of 12 volts? • Could High Altitude Jets be Used in 4,500 Watt RV Generator at Lower Altitudes
  • You'll have to match the jets with the elevation you plan to use the etrailer generator part # 333-0004 in. If there was one jet kit that would work in higher and lower elevations we would have installed it in the generator, but the reality is that with elevation changes there is also a large change in air density so you have to have the correct jets to allow the engine of the generator to function properly. At higher altitudes the air is thinner so you need jets that allow more air into...

  • Is 2,000 Watt Generator Enough to Power 5th Wheel Trailer Appliances
  • Is your generator 2,000 running watts or 2,000 starting watts? Either way, that's a pretty low amount and I would think that you would need more. I have added a couple cut outs from the linked help article on generators which shows some of the common appliance power usage as well as how to determine exactly how much power your generator will need to be. Should you need more power, as I suspect you likely will, there are a couple of good options that don't have to break the bank, depending...
