Hi everyone. it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we'll be taking a look at our Coghlan's camp cooker here at etrailer. So this is a double cooker that's because you get two options here. On our web pages, you can check out the single camp cooker, or the double, which is this one. So this is ideal if you need to make multiple sandwiches or multiple pieces of food at the same time.

So if you're going out with a friend, with some family or a group of people, this allows you to cook food over your campfire. You don't need to bring a whole stove out there. This will be great for toasting or cooking your grilled cheeses, your casserole, your mini pizzas, fruit pies, meat pies, the options are endless, and it's really up to you what you want to make with this. Now this is made of cast iron. So you usually get two different options.

When you want to cook something open over an open fire. You can get aluminum or you can get cast iron. Now the downside to a cast iron cooker like this, it is kind of on the heavier side. If you're just backpacking and you want to travel light, this might not be the best option for you. Also, it takes a little bit of extra maintenance and extra cleaning since you don't clean cast iron with soap, but you do need to season it every now and then to make sure it's maintained.

Now the upside to a cast iron cooker like this is that it's strong and sturdy, it's durable. It's not gonna melt in your campfire. And on a personal note, I really like the taste of food cooked inside of cast iron pots and utensils and cookers, just like this. But that's really up to me. It is up to you how you want to use this.

And if this is going to be a fit for you and your situation, which I hope this video will help you out with. Now, this is a pre-seasoned cooker. And what that means is that once you get it it's ready to use. I personally though, my recommendation is to season this another time on your own, before you head out to the camp site. That's going to help you out with getting some experience with how to use and take care of a cast iron cooker like this, but also depending on where you are, your climate, your situation, since this does feel kind of on the dry side, you may appreciate that extra seasoning experience, just so that you'll be sure this won't rest up on you before your trip. Now, this also comes with a recipe book and some instructions. So before your trip, check out this book, because this will have some suggestions, some ideas, and will help you prepare the ingredients you'll need ahead of time, especially with the portion sizes. I'll give you the dimensions real quick. But before that, an example of what you can cook with this is one of the recipes it gives, that you can make grilled cheese with four slices of bread. So one on each side, two to three slices of cheese per grilled cheese or per sandwich, and then cook this for about two minutes. That's one on each side. That will be a good reference point for what you can make with this cooker. Now, the size of the cooker on the inside is going to be, let's take some measurements, I'll bring out my ruler. It's going to be three and a half inches per square. So three and a half wide, three and a half long. And then you'll get two sandwiches here on the inside. So notice how you have a lip on the edge, but then it comes together right over here in the middle. And that means that once you have this in your campfire, compared to the single where you can immediately burn off or peel off the edges, this will still have a little bit of an edge squished down and pinched together in the middle, but it will still be there. So just a slightly different experience for your grilled cheese, still going to be delicious, but just something to consider. This also has an open lip. So this goes completely open. Now, if you're not used to it, you may be concerned by how quickly this falls out of that hinge. But once you have it in place, notice how it's really a secure fit that hinge right there. So it's not going to pop out as you're cooking, but just, it's nice to know and see how that works right over here. Now these handles are detachable. You just unscrew them from the cooker. And that means that if you do want to store this cooker, you can just have the cast iron on its own with a can or the handles separate. So we'll take some measurements. Measuring from the hinge to where the handle attaches, we have it at about six inches wide. Now for the length of the cooker, that's going to be from end to end. It will be eight and a half or eight and a quarter inches long. So that's going to be the size you'll need to store once you take the handles off. Now, the measurement or the length of the handle itself is going to be 21 inches long and the overall length of the entire cooker. So from one end, all the way to that hinge, it's going to be twenty six and eleven sixteenth inches long. Now, when you are cooking, notice how this has a wooden handle and a steel shaft. So what you're going to want to do is as you're have your food inside, you're going to want to clip it closed. So right over there, that's going to secure your cooker. So it doesn't fall out while you're holding it over the fire. You also have a hook or a clip right over here that can be used to hold those handles in place and make sure you're holding this by the wooden handle and not by the steel shaft, because when you do have this inside your campfire, it's going to heat up and you want to make sure you don't burn yourself. But then once your food is done, be careful when you release this clip, then you can get your grilled cheese sandwiches out. And then after you've given it some time to cool down, you can then clean it, make sure to follow right processes for cleaning cast iron cookers, and then you can unscrew the handles to make it easier to store. So all in all, it's a nice, simple, easy process. Just make sure you're using this wisely. And also you don't really need to heat it up that much. They recommend you just heat it just enough to melt butter. And then after that, you can use it to toast your sandwiches, your pies, your casserole, really put everyone to eat. So that was a really quick look here at our Coghlan's camp cooker. This is the double version, but you can also check out the single version here at etrailer. Hopefully this helped you out. My name is Evangeline and this was a look at the Coghlan's camp cooker..
