Video Transcript for TorkLift Talon Rear Camper Tie-Downs Installation - 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Speaker 1: Today our 2017 Chevy Silverado 3500, we're going to be taking a look at showing you how to install the Tork-Lift custom frame-mounted camper tie-downs for the rear. Part number TLC3216A.All camper tie-downs are going to secure our in bed camper by giving us a frame amount of attachment point. It's going to help us redistribute the weight more evenly, then in bed attachment points and reduce top heavy feel while driving. This is what our tie-down looks like when they're installed. They're going to be aluminum with a powder coat finish. They're going to be mounted directly to the frame, which is going to help prevent top heavy loads. It will simple to install.

There's going to be no drilling. Comes with all the necessary hardware. Also, it comes with a pen with an attached clip for your mounting inserts. The mounting insert is going to have two separate mounting locations to give you a little bit of an extension on your arm. When you're not in use, it has a rubber cover to cover your holes. Now, to begin our installation, if you already have the super-hitch installed on your vehicle, it's going to have this bracket right here. Now, we're going to have to remove this and then your bracket for your tie-down is going to take the place of this.First thing we're going to do is we're going to take this out.

We're going to be using a 3/4-inch socket. We're going to take our 7/16-inch bolt, our star washer. It's all about by the plate washer. We're going to take our included feed wire. We're going to put it on the bolt. We're going to pass it through this big hole in the frame and it's going to come out this front hole here.

Like that. We're going to do the same thing with this back hole. Now everything we do on this side of the vehicle, we're going to do on the other side of the vehicle also.Next, we're going to go ahead and put our bracket in place. You want to make sure that this part of the bracket is facing toward the back of the vehicle. You want your tube, is going to be facing down and your tube is going to be toward the front of the vehicle. I'm going to put another plate washer on.

It's already a plate spacer, a lock washer and a nut.Now we're going to take a half inch carriage bolt followed by a washer. We're going to come from that side here or inside the hitch plate. On the outside here, we're going to take followed up by another washer, a half inch lock washer and the nut.Once we have all of our hardware in place, we'll go ahead and tighten everything down. On our top bolts here, we're going to be using an 11/16-inch socket. Then on these, we're going to use a 3/4-inch socket along with a 3/4-inch wrench. Now this bolt here is going to be hard to get to, which is going to be the reason for the wrench. Now that we have everything tightened down, we'll torque it down to specification from the instructions. That'll do it for the Tork-Lift custom frame-mounted camper tie-downs for your part number TLC3216A on our 2017 Chevy Silverado 3500.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

The package arrived very quickly and intact. I have a 2020 Ford F250 SD Lariat short bed with a factory hitch. The tie-downs were really easy to install although the hitch adapter plate (see attached photo) which is supposed to attach to the end of the tie-down would not fit inside the tubing on my factory installed hitch so I installed without it and it is tight and snug

Comments
Thank you for your photo. Torklift does recommend to use the hitch adapter for the 2020 Ford F-250. The adapter does need to be turn horizontally to fit inside the hitch not vertically.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

My brother installed these and he used air tools. The brackets fit perfectly. The instructions were thorough. They bolted right in and the only delay was the disconnect/reconnect of the e-brake cable to install the driver's side bracket (2019 RAM 3500). After all the parts were laid out, he installed all 4 brackets in an hour.
He commented many times on the weight, high quality and PERFECT FIT of these brackets. These are worth the price and made in the USA.

Comments
These are still working perfectly.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

I bought this when my previous belly bar and rear tie-down bent badly when our truck slid off the road into a steep ditch and our camper nearly tipped sideways off our truck. This product is a bit better then my old set up, but I expected something much better for this very high price. It wasn't too tough to install, despite the poorly written instructions. Also, the kit did not include a bolt fisher for the 7/16 bolt. The bolt fisher supplied was for a 1/2 inch bolt. Fortunately I had the correct bolt fisher from a previous project. I am also disappointed that the tie down hole has a slot cut in it which seems would significantly weaken it. I am not optimistic that the tie-down point will not bend or break if we have a similar significant side load such as when we slid into the ditch. I will probably weld the slot in the tie-down point shut to strengthen it.

Comments
They are starting to rust significantly. That is very disappoint considering the very high cost of these. It is interesting that they dont allow pictures of the product for this update.

Forklift tie downs are manufactured to exact fit to existing manufactured frame rail holes. They lined up perfectly and after 6000 miles with camper on board have stayed secure. The only downside, (this is relative to when and ware you use you camper) they will corrode when driving through snow covered roads that have been treated with sand and/or salt. I use an oil based product to protect them corroding.

Product was delivered as expected and installed according to the instructions. Disappointed with the coating/paint. Been in operation only a few months and the coating/paint is already coming off and starting to rust.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

I had the mountings professionally attached to the frame. The hatches can be easily removed when not in use( and I would recommend that to keep them from being stolen). Using chains and turnbuckles, I feel very comfortable with my truck camper staying where it is.. does not rock, very solid.
It’s nice to feel secure about my camper staying firmly attached.
It was worth the investment.

Feel strong and solid with the camper but already seeing some rust in places. Wish the aluminum had been in stock.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

The TorkLift frame mounted tiedowns for my truck bed camper mounted perfectly on my 2016 RAM 3500. They are holding my camper on very securely and will be tucked away nicely when I remove the camper for Winter. I plan on making a footstep to slide into the receivers then, so I have much easier access to my high truck bed when I use it to haul firewood. The only suggestion I have is that we cleaned up the punched out pin hole edges with a file, inside the receivers. The sharp ridges would have scratched the hold down assemblies a bit when inserted into the receivers. Maybe an opportunity for a manufacturing process improvement there?

Easy to install and super secure! Made my Lance 1020 feel like its part of my truck. Highly recommended for the juggernaut class truck campers. I’ll never go back to the stake pocket style or bed mount tie downs again.

Comments
1 year later, Im still very pleased. Ive gotten many positive comments from people that didnt know they existed and, after talking to me, plan on upgrading themselves.

The rear mounts were easy to mount. The only problem the package was missing 4 flat washers. I also just received the Front mounts. They were a little harder to mount by myself. Some advice is to watch the install on [video]. I ended up using a floor Jack to hold the mounts.

Instructions were straightforward, installation was easy as expected. Didn't need to jack the truck up or anything - just crawl under and bolt on. Easy. Perfect fit for my 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

So far it's great!! It took me and my buddy about 90 minutes to take off the old hitch on my 2006 Chevy 3500 dually!!! We timed ourselves! It wasn't complicated. We used a floor jack to lift the new hitch into place. All bolt holes matched perfectly. You definitely should use two people to install this thing because if it gets away from you may need to replace some fingers. It's just a heavy piece of equipment. Installing it myself saved me about $600 over having someone else install!!

by:

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

This installation was easy. If installation is on F250, the additional notched plates must be attached to the tie-downs. This prevents rotation inside the receiver tube. A couple of ratchet extensions will be required to hold the bolt head. The finished installation is secure and looks good. The welding appearance could be better, but seems strong enough.

Comments
The tie downs are still secure and work great. These rear tie downs will get alot of road grime and mud, so keep them clean.

These went on as well as could be expected for where they are installed. The rears are easier than the fronts. The fronts went well with the provided instructions and the awesome bolt thread wires. Functionally they are perfect for holding down my camper.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

These tiedowns were very simple to install on the end of the Torklift superHitch. If you're hauling a camper, they are a must have item. Very easy to remove when not hauling, and has a clean look.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

The Torklift frame mounted camper tie down so far seems to be a good fit, with one exception. I have full length round tube nerf running boards, that extend past the cab. I had to remove them to make room for the tie down bracket. I even purchased the bracket that allows clearance for running boards, but round tube type boards are a totally different deal. At the end of the day it isn’t a deal breaker, I’ll just purchase cab length running boards. I gave the review 4 stars instead of 5, because I think this is a detail Torklift should had accounted for. It is very likely if my boards were flat, the brackets would had cleared.

The 2008 Dodge 2500 longbed install is very easy for the rear mounts.
The front is harder because of the blind frame holes but e trailer thought of everything. Your setup works great. Thank you

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

I paired these with the front mounts and am totally pleased. Easy to install and simple to use. I would recommend these for any size camper, not just the juggernaut class ones. They keep your camper rock solid and not wallowing around like you see some of the bed-mounted brackets.

  • Correct TorkLift Rear Camper Tie-Downs for 2018 GMC Sierra 3500 with SuperHitch Installed
When replacing the factory hitch on your 2018 GMC Sierra 3500 with the TorkLift SuperHitch # TLC1211 you will indeed need to also replace the rear TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs. I confirmed this with my contact at TorkLift. For your 2018 GMC Sierra 3500 Dually with the 8 foot bed the correct rear tie-downs to match the new SuperHitch is the part # TLC3216 or # TLC3216A for the aluminum version that will be resistant to corrosion. The front tie-downs do not need to be changed.
