Installation

Clamp Examples

Installing these bed-mounted camper tie-downs is simple. First, attach the T-bolts to the bottom interior portion of each tie-down. Place each tie-down on the rail of your truck so that the straight side faces the interior of your bed and the angled side faces the exterior. Adjust the T-bolts until each tie-down sits square on the rail. Then attach the clamp plates to secure the tie-downs to the rails. To do this, position the clamp plate beneath the lip of the side rail so that the lip is between the plate and the straight side of the tie-down. Then insert a carriage bolt on either side of the setup and tighten the nuts on the bolts until the tie-down is securely clamped onto the lip of your bed side rail.

Securing your Camper

Camper w TieDowns

In order to secure your camper to your truck bed, these tie-downs will need to be used in conjunction with a tie-down hardware package consisting of turnbuckles, S-hooks, and chains (TDHP - sold separately). This hardware attaches to the anchors on your camper and to the tie-downs on your truck to keep your camper secure. Once you tighten the turnbuckles appropriately, you will be ready to haul your camper.

Video Transcript for Brophy Camper Hold Downs Review

Today we'll be reviewing and showing you how the Brophy sliding camper hold downs, part number HSSF, will fit on most trucks. These hold downs will fit on any truck that has a downward lip on the underside of the bed rail. But keep in mind, if you have a bed liner, you may need to cut it out to fit properly. We'll begin our installation by first threading on the 7/16 hex nut onto our T bar. We'll then thread the T bar into the threaded hole on the tie down plate. We'll then take the included neoprene pads, which we'll place on the underside of the tie down plate as well as the back of the T bar.

We'll then place the tie down plate onto the bed rail as far forward as possible, making sure that there is still a lip on the underside of the bed rail. Next, we'll need to make sure that the 90-degree angle on the tie down plate is flush with the 90-degree angle on the bed rail. To do this, we'll loosen up the T bar until the bracket can rest flush on the bed rail. We'll then turn the hex nut tightly up against the backside of the black plate. We'll then tighten it down with a wrench.

We'll now take the other clamping plate and put it on the backside of the tie down plate underneath the bed rail. We'll need to make sure that the two holes on the clamping plate and the two holes on the tie down plate match up. You'll also notice the angled edge on the clamping plate will need to be up against the horizontal drop down of the bed rail. We'll place this up under the bed rail, thread in the bolts, and thread in our nuts on the other side. We'll then use a wrench to further secure them and tighten them down.

You can connect your camper with the tie down hardware package, part number TDHP, by simply taking the S hook, which the small part of the S hook should be into the chain. We'll then take the other end of the chain and set it onto the hook of the turn buckle. We'll then take the larger opening of the S hook and insert it into the hole of the tie down plate. As you can see, there are two adjusting hooks which will either loosen or tighten your load against your camper, giving you supreme hold. These hold downs are made of a 3/8" x 3" steel, and coated with a black powder coated finish to hold up against the elements.

They are highly adjustable and have more leverage than stake pocket hold downs because of the longer mounting brackets that secure to the base of the truck bed, as opposed to the inside of the stake pocket. The kit comes with four hold downs, and the hardware and pads you'll need to install them. That will complete today's review of the Brophy sliding camper hold downs, part number HSSF.

Bought these for use on my '98 GMC 1 ton dually and an old "Little Caboose" slide in 8ft camper. They fit and work great, plus the price is very affordable compared to other systems. 730879

Good product well made and simple to install. Good for short trips. If I were going a long distance I would look for a frame hold down system. 690677

I received this tie downs on July, and first used it yesterday. My Camper ‘s dry weight is about 1600 lb, and the products are good for my truck camper. The problem was the position where tie downs were fitted on my truck. I tried several times to fitted tie downs to my truck. 706859

Installed on a 2010 Ram 2500 and fit pretty good after a slight grinding of the triangular interior bracket. Easy fix though and for the price I don't think you can beat them. Piece of mind knowing your camper isn't going anywhere. I have about 2000 miles across the country with the camper and brackets on with zero issues. Easy to take on and off if you want but I just leave them on. They don't get in the way and are good for tying big stuff down. I chose these becuase I heard the pocket stakes are garbage and wasn't gonna spend the big bucks on frame mounts. 4 stars because of the paint on them. No good. Do yourself a big favor and save time by getting some black rustoleum spray paint and coat them up good. Otherwise you will be taking them off and doing it anyway. If your second guessing the reliability or strength of them don't. They are the real deal. 406738

these hold-downs are great. They do just what you want them to do --keep your slide in camper tightly attached to your truck. We drove more than 3000 miles with no trouble. Also easy to remove for the winter. 345333

I installed these hold downs on my 2016 Ram 1500 crew cab pickup. They were an easy install took about 30 minutes with no drilling required. I installed a Tracker 7 foot pop up camper on the truck & they made a good sturdy mount. The camper is only 1000 pounds. I would have rated these 5 stars but the packaging allowed the powder coating to get chips and scratches. They came wrapped in paper & fit loosely in the box allowing them to shift around, allowing parts to bang together. Good heavy duty brackets look to be well made. They are awesome for the price. 270422

I bought these for our brand new 2019 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton because no custom options were available. I was happy that they were easy to install, and look great. I’ve used them in the past and have been happy with how they hold campers. Sure I’d rather have custom mounts from the frame, but for the price and because these are my only option that’s what I got. These will work just fine, and I like that I can swap these out on trucks. The one thing I wish was different was that the threaded T handle portion would have a longer option. I had to fancy up a 2”x6” to run inside the side of my p/u bed so they would touch something. As always another great shopping experience with etrailer. They haven’t let me down yet. Especially Lori, what a great customer service rep. 682589

These camper hold-downs appear to be manufactured from good steel stock and should do the job nicely. I did have one piece that was slightly damaged but was not caught when packaged (the damage was not due to shipping). I was able to take a hammer to the bent steel and straighten it sufficiently to use the part. It was a little disappointing however, and should have been caught prior to shipping. Overall I am pleased with the quality and price 185119

Found easy to install, I placed lock washers on the 8 3/8" bolts. Sold at Menards for 89 cents (pkg of 8) not in kit. Placement was a little restrictive with dealer installed bed liner. Takes 30 minutes to install all 4. Great buy. 59359

As far as I'm concerned these are junk. Wasted my money. Do not mount in proper location on a 2011 Chevy Silverado 6.5' Bed. Because of the design of the bed rail the mounts cannot be installed in the proper locations for securing camper. The photos show the maximum forward and back that these can be mounted. Not at all made for the 6.5 foot bed 2007 or later Siverado. The Black Powder Coated Steel isn't that great either. Paint missing, dinged up from storage and shipping probably. 267547

This place has good customer service, product delivered for free and within days of ordering. I called and told my dilemma and these are what were recommended by customer service for my really big camper, to get it from where I bought it to home which is about 40miles. However, as my husband I both know we need the undermount type. The rep did say the same thing, but thinks these which are way cheaper should hold it ok that distant. So we will see. Funny thing, I live in Idaho, and the parts went from Clackamas, OR to back east back here. Sigh, lol 185872

Ordered these for my new truck to hold my popup camper. As I haven't put them on yet because it's still winter, end of march it will be prepared to be put on. We are first time camper owners and last night was the first time we tried loading the camper in the back of the truck. We didn't have the brackets in the correct place, but they were easy to move and worked really well when they were in the proper location. Easy to use and we were really happy we didn't have to drill holes in the bed of the truck. 692847

by:

Mounted well, however they have to be removed prior to loading camper as they hit camper lifting posts. Then they are impossible to install once camper is fitted to the truck, as lift on camper is limited for safety reasons. A very frustrating purchase. Not sure what to do about them, other than put them on craigslist. 673653

  • Recommended Camper Tie-Downs For 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty Truck
We do have camper tie-downs other than the Torklift, but there are several restrictions for their use. One of the tie-downs is part # HSSF. These clamp onto the bed rails of your truck. The restrictions are the bed rail cannot exceed 5-1/2 inches wide, and they require at least 2 inches of space beneath the bed rail, and they are not compatible with trucks that have drop-in bed liners, plastic bed rails, double-walled beds, or step side trucks. I have attached a photo that shows how...

Yes, the Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs part # HSSF will fit a 2007-2014 GMC Sierra 1500 so they will work just fine on your 2012. The tie-downs will not be able to be installed at the very front and rear of the bed but this is due to the design of your bed rather than an issue with the tie-downs. That said, the turn buckles don't need to be perfectly straight so this won't be an issue. If you don't have turn buckles, I recommend the Brophy Basic Turnbuckles w/ Hardware part # TDHP. The...
