Installation

Clamp Examples

Installing these bed-mounted camper tie-downs is simple. First, attach the T-bolts to the bottom interior portion of each tie-down. Place each tie-down on the rail of your truck so that the straight side faces the interior of your bed and the angled side faces the exterior. Adjust the T-bolts until each tie-down sits square on the rail. Then attach the clamp plates to secure the tie-downs to the rails. To do this, position the clamp plate beneath the lip of the side rail so that the lip is between the plate and the straight side of the tie-down. Then insert a carriage bolt on either side of the setup and tighten the nuts on the bolts until the tie-down is securely clamped onto the lip of your bed side rail.

Securing your Camper

Camper w TieDowns

In order to secure your camper to your truck bed, these tie-downs will need to be used in conjunction with a tie-down hardware package consisting of turnbuckles, S-hooks, and chains (TDHP - sold separately). This hardware attaches to the anchors on your camper and to the tie-downs on your truck to keep your camper secure. Once you tighten the turnbuckles appropriately, you will be ready to haul your camper.

Video Transcript for Brophy Angled Hold Downs for Truck Bed Campers Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Brophy Angled Hold-Downs for truck bed campers, part number HSAB. These heavy-duty hold-downs provide anchor points for securing your camper to your truck bed. The angle design allows for more clearance between your hold-downs and your truck bed fender. The extra-wide clamp provides exceptional holding strength for your truck bed side rails. They simply mount in each of your truck bed. It's an easy clamp-on installation with no drilling required.

They're made out of a solid, welded steel construction with a nice black powder coat finish so they're going to be durable and resist rust and corrosion. The installation of the hold-downs requires a minimum of 2 inches of clearance between the inside of the truck side walls and the inner lip of the side wall. It's going to fit in most full-size domestic pickup trucks. Now that we've gone over the features I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. I've already got three installed on the truck bed. Let's go ahead and do the fourth one.

I'll go ahead and hop into the bed and we'll set our angle in place. Now for these rear two angle hold-downs, it doesn't really matter where you position them, you just need to position them in such a way that you're turn buckle tie down is angled towards the center of the bed. Now for the front two, they need to position all the way forward as far as they can go, that way our turn buckle is angled towards the center of the bed as well. We're going to position ours so it's even with the other one, right around there. Then we'll grab our hardware. Now our kit comes with some neoprene pads.

As you can see our truck here as a spray in 00:01:37 bed liner, so we don't have to use them. But if you needed to use them, you would install them like so. You would put one here and then one here. First we'll grab our t-bolt and you can also put a neoprene pad on here if you choose because it's going to be making contact with the inside of our bed here. Let's go ahead and get that started. We're going to put it on the inside and thread it through.

Now when we put our t-bolt on, we want to make sure that our angle hold-down is sitting flat and up against our truck bed side rail here. That's how we adjust it. We need to make sure that it makes contact with the inside of our bed and that it sits flat. Then we can take our triangular-shaped plate and it's going to sit on the inside of our hold-down like so. We'll take our hardware, put it through the front, and do the same for this side. Now the wrench size is just 9/16. We'll get them hand-tightened and then we can tighten them the rest of the way down. Once you get it tight, it should stiffen up for you. Now after you get them tightened up, if need be you can re-adjust your t-bolt. You can put your jam nut on the end and tighten it down. Now the only thing left to do is to bring out our camper and tie it down and we're all set. That's going to complete our look at the Brophy Angled Hold-Downs for truck bed campers, part number HSAB.

Well, its been a year since I installed the hold-downs on my truck and I am still very satisfied with them. They have been in use several times and in fact I am leaving next week on a two week hunting trip to Colorado.

It was has been very good So far. We just used it this weekend. I am not sure if this is normal. We traveled 75 miles into a 30 mile head wind causing the camper to slide approximately 1 in backwards Had to lower camper back down reposition camper 522747

I reached out to my contacts Brophy and the turnbuckles are adjustable so it may be possible for your camper to shift slightly. The stake pocket tie downs should be positioned so that the turnbuckles pull slightly forward. It sounds like you were able to get everything adjusted properly.

It works great for the smaller campers. I wouldn't use them for like a big camper one that is oversized but yeah it works good for what I need. I just haul the camper back and forth from hunting to back home 735504

The nuts in the body to lock the stand off are not welded just pessed in the hole. How will that work? 716649

Comments
I reached out to Brophy with your concerns. They assured me that this is how the tie-downs are designed. My contact says, I have double checked with our Production Manager and he said that they are not ever welded. The amount of pressure that it takes to the nut into the hole, holds it in the hole without fail. Please reassure your customer that is the way they are designed and he will not have any problems with the nut coming loose.

As always my order arrived early. The box was not in great shape but nothing was lost out the holes. Poor delivery guy could barely get it to the porch. I was surprised at how heavy they are. It took me about half an hour to get them installed. I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500. The shape of the inside of the truck was a pain to work around. I couldn't set the front tie downs as far forward as I would have liked, but it will work. Haven't got the camper yet but I'm sure they will be perfect. I have seen these on many pickups here in western Colorado. The installation video made my choice easy ...NO HOLES TO DRILL. 492570

I purchased for a 2011 f150 unsure if would work? I recieved and the box was destroyed but everything was there, I installed last night. Ok first on this bed style it's not a simple install, first the bolts that hold the clamp plate need to be reversed with nuts to inside bed which isn't as easy as it sounds! Reason being the lip is not quite the required 2". I managed to get them on and bolted together,oh I did add a 1" spacer onto the t-bolts to lengthen them otherwise I was out of threads , they are on and very very siolid I haven't loaded camper yet do to having to work, but do not see a problem , sorry no pictures of completed install, I believe the installation took less than hour and a half, Thanks for the great customer service it is refreshing to find these days !!! 436350

  • Are Brophy Tie-Downs Compatible with Newer Super Duty Pickups with Aluminum Bed
You can use the Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs # HSAB for your 2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty but we actually recommend going with the Camper Tie-Downs # HSSF instead as they have a slightly different design that better fits your Super Duty. Attached are dimensional photos of each for you to reference with your application. You will notice that one, part # HSAB, has an extra bend towards the end where you attach your tie-downs.

  • What is the Difference Between Brophy Truck Camper Tie-Downs
Yes, the # HSAB is angled at the ends making it easier to attach the turnbuckles and keeping the tie-downs further from the truck's fenders. The # HSSF will work just as well but isn't quite as easy to connect.
