How to Determine the Support Capacity You Need in Your Landing Gear

If you will be using this landing gear to lift and lower your trailer onto a hitch ball or kingpin, then you should choose the jack you need based on its lift capacity. But, if you are just using it to stabilize or support a parked trailer, then you should focus on the jack's support capacity.

Heavy-duty jacks like this one stabilize about 25% of your trailer's total weight when it's loaded up. For example, a 50,000-lb trailer has a pin weight of about 12,500 lbs. For these legs to work, you'd need a set of landing gear with a combined lift capacity of no less than 12,500 lbs. If you only have one jack that can get the job done, that's great! In fact, this should work more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking.

Note: Do not use landing gear to lift your trailer during tire changes or service work, because doing so will exceed the capacity of the landing gear.

customer service was great, shipping time was fast and absolutely no complaints!

I'm using this jack on a 28 foot stacker trailer, along with an electric motor to operate it. It works fine, is easily deployed and very sturdy. I have had not problems whatever either with the jack or with etrailer with respect to this purchase.

The jack and electric motor work great, no problems at all and what a treat to have the motor.

by:

had the old bolt plate cut off the single speed jack and welded on the new one.
Nice having a two speed jack that can lift even a loaded trailer.

Well pleased with this jack and will buy a new one (if this one ever fails)

by:

Got one of these and it had a sticky spot in the input gears. Emailed eTrailer and they sent me another one (which is perfect, by the way), and paid for the return postage of the defective unit. All this without me even having to ask!

Jack is about what I expected. Planetary unit is kind of notchy, but it looks like it will work as intended.

Bulldog makes a great product and survived what appears to be a very rough journey with UPS.

by:

by:

by:

nice jack. well built should do the job just fine

Product arrived in a heavily damaged box. Other than a few scratches product was in good shape. Since this jack is a weld on unit, it would be a good idea to supply the decals unattached as they do melt when welding. Have dealt with etrailer in the past and always receive great service and value.

by:

I was very satisfied with the help of everyone's help when I ordered the bulldog 2-speed jack. Everyone was very helpful when I ordered the Jack on line, and the jack was shipped as promised and delivered via UPS. Everyone was knowledgeable and very helpful in selecting the jack for my application.

by:

After welding some mounting brackets onto the jack, mounting and hooking up the wires, was very simple. Bulldog makes a good product. Mark M. Was very helpful and knowledgeable enough about his product line to help get the right jack for my application.

by:

Jack came in a timely manner. Installed on the front of a steel livestock 5th wheel trailer that is VERY heavy. Have owned it over a year now and still works flawlessly. In conditions that are less than ideal (mud, manure, gravel road grit, etc). Will definitely buy one again when needed and highly recommend.

by:

Welded the new Jacks were I cut the old ones off the cross rod work with the new Jacks everything work out good if you need jacks this is the place to go

by:

the two speed gear works great makes lifting my 42 ft goose neck easier than the stock jacks that came on it.if i was going to replace a jack i would definitely go with the two speed jack and e trailer is a great place to buy, very helpful and fast shipping i would recommend them

My 1st 2 speeed UnitI have always been happy with the "Bulldog" brand products .... and was a little skeptical of the planetary gearbox and the "shifting" from High to Low.

I have no reservations now!!!! The unit works flawless!!! shifting is easy and "crisp"

This was my first purchase from etrailer, .... WoW I have bought from many on line stores ...... I have never seen the follow up, attention to detail and quality coorespondence that etrailer has demonstrated on this purchase!!!!!

I definately will have etrailer in my Favorites list!!!!!!!!

  • Availability of a 10,000LB Capacity, 2-Speed Trailer Jack Without Drop Leg Return Spring
We do have the Bulldog 2-Speed Jack # BD183401 without a spring return. This is a 10,000lb lift capacity 2-speed jack similar to the etrailer # TJD2SP-12000SP-F jack you found. The Bulldog requires a separate Handle # BD701466 as one is not included. We currently do not have drill adapters for these larger jacks as they require more power than a drill can provide under load.

  • Recommendation for Adding 12K Electric Jack for Horse Trailer
It sounds like you have the older Fulton 12K Magnum Series HD Jack. Since there isn't a way to convert this to an electric jack you'll need to replace the entire jack. To get to your end result of having an electric jack for your horse trailer you will need to go with the Bulldog 2-Speed Jack # BD183401 (10K lift and 12K static capacities) and then use the Bulldog Powered-Drive Kit # BD1824180100 to make it electric. This setup does come with it's own gearbox so you wouldn't need to pick...

For two-speed operation you will need a jack with a two-speed planetary gearbox, such as Bulldog 2-Speed Jack, part # BD183401. • Recommended Heavy Duty Two-Speed Electric Trailer Jack For Horse Trailer
I do have an option for you, but there is not a single jack with a 12,000lb lift capacity that is electric or can be converted to electric. With that said I recommend going with the Bulldog 2-Speed Jack - Drop Leg w/ Non-Spring Return # BD183401 which has a 10,000lb lift capacity and 12,000lb static capacity, and can be converted to electric via the Bulldog Powered-Drive Kit for OEM 2-Speed Planetary Jacks # BD1824180100 you were looking at. • Bulldog 2-Speed Tandem Landing Gear Set Jack Recommendation for a 20 ft Trailer
Our strongest landing gear jack that you could potentially use on your 20 foot trailer would be the Bulldog 2-Speed Tandem Landing Gear Set # BD500153. This jack has 45,000 lbs of lifting capacity and can handle 90,000 lbs of static weight. If you are tired of breaking jacks and want to be done with the hassle of having new jacks welded on I would recommend the # BD500153.

  • Can Bulldog 182425 be Used Instead of Bulldog 183401 for Electric Horse Trailer Jack
Great question! The Bulldog Jack 182425 that you found is similar to the Bulldog 2-Speed Jack # BD183401 that I reference with the difference being that the 182425 has welded plates to the sides of the jack to bolt onto a trailer. The 182425 will also work with the Powered-Drive Kit # BD1824180100 that I mentioned earlier so you will be able to upgrade it to an electric jack if that's still your goal. I confirmed all of this with my contact at Bulldog.
