Video Transcript for etrailer Camper Jack - Landing Gear - RVLG-8000 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the etrailer landing gear set. This is going to be perfect for fifth wheel trailers and RVs. It's a dual jack design. It's going to raise and lower for easy leveling. It's going to have this telescoping steel connecting rod. That's going to allow you to operate both at the same time.

At the bottom of each leg is going to be a foot plate, that's this large piece right here. That foot plate is going to really add a lot of stability to each leg and it's going to prevent sinking on softer surfaces. The unit also has drop legs at the bottom of each jack leg. That's going to allow for further adjustability. The unit's going to feature durable black powder coated finishing on the outer tubes. Zinc finishing on the inner tubes, drop leg, and foot plate, that's going to do a really great job at resisting rust and corrosion ensuring that these last and look good for a long time.

Now to operate the unit it does require a manual hand crank. That would connect to this piece right here. The hand crank is sold separately. You can find it at etrailer.com with part number RVLG-HDL. The unit can also have a 12 volt DC motor added to it.

That's available with part number M1230 and that's sold separately as well. Now I did some measurements on this unit. The overall retracted leg height, from the bottom of the foot plate to the top of the jack with the unit in the fully retracted position, measured 32 and 3/4 of an inch. I also did that measurement fully extended, as high as it will go without using the drop leg and got a measurement of 53 and 1/4 inches. If we subtract those measurements, that's going to give us a travel measurement of 20 and a half inches. The drop legs on the unit they're going to provide an additional 16 inches of travel.

Then the adjustment holes on those drop legs are separated on center by one inch. That's going to be the incremental height adjustment. The drive leg, that's this right here, this leg it has the gear box. With it in the fully retracted position, the gear box adds about another three inches. The retracted height with the gear box on there is going to be about 35 and 3/4 of an inch. Now the unit's going to feature a combined weight capacity of 8,000 pounds. The foot plates measure eight inches long by six and 1/8 of an inch wide. The unit is going to mount to the frame clamps on your trailer. It's got the weld stops on there. The frame clamps are also available at etrailer.com if your trailer is not already equipped with those. The distance between the weld stops, from the bottom of this one to the top of this one, that's going to be 15 and a half inches. From the top of this one to the bottom of this one is 17 and a half inches. You can take that measurement out to your trailer and see if this set up would work for you. That is a standard measurement, this will work on most applications. When the legs are as close together as possible, the distance that we have from inside of one leg to inside of the other leg measured around 44 and a half inches. I also telescoped this as far apart as possible, inside to inside the legs we're separated by 72 inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the etrailer landing gear set.

Recieved item on time. I give 5 stars for product, but as for the shipping company ups, they suck . the box,or what was left of it was full of holes. Was instructions and hardware included,if so they were gone. Any way the landing gear works good. 654938

The product I purchased is excellent. But better yet is the professionalism and quality of customer service. I had a problem with my order(not defectiveness of the product) and I communicated with three separate service representatives who communicated with each other to immediately resolve my concern. Each person was exceptional in their courteousness and their concern regarding my dilemma. This is a reminder of how important the service one receives from etrailer is as much as the quality of the product they sell. I want to thank the staff that assisted me and hope the management recognizes what their representatives in the sales/service line are characterizing. Thanks for your service. I highly recommend etrailer for your parts purchases. 673095

etrailer.com's customer service is first rate. Product shipped next day and received it by the end of the week. Landing gear bolted right in. Only problem I had was the hole, in the tab that the hand crank passes through, did not line up with the gear shaft. The trailer is an older 1987 Road Ranger and enlarging the hole on the tab solved the problem. Landing jacks look to be well built, good price and great customer service. 438318

Have it installed. It looks and fits great. I live the lubrication fittings. my old one did not have any. My old sets gears were striped and is no longer made. So, I had to replace it with the RVLG-8000. Great fit 694217

I used this landing gear on a 2004 Keystone Hornet. I had to slightly modify the floor of my rig to get these to fit but this is correct replacement. Once installed, it was raising and lowering normal again. Also, this product has the correct grease inserts already installed. The legs on my Hornet bound up do to lack of grease. Lesson learned. 634289

I received these in just a couple of days and they were a perfect fit for my Raptor toy hauler. It only took about 1.5 hours to change everything out. They seem to work way better than the factory ones. Very happy with the purchase. 670306

I used these to replace both landing gear on my 2009 Keystone Copper Canyon - the top crown gear sheared off inside the existing ones so I figured why not just replace both. The existing motor fit just perfect and I've been using it now for about a year with no problems. Especially like the grease fittings at the top and on the side. 608750

Highly recommend this company. We are new to RV life and maintenance. We have a used 2004 28 ft. Cross road fifth wheel. I was having a difficult time trying to get the RV off the truck in -0 weather, as the landing gear was frozen and stripped out. I spoke with Paula from E trailer who was very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. She guided me through which parts to buy and at a reasonable price. My shipment arrived within 2 days. All parts were intact and instruction were clear and easy to follow. It is all in working order. This will be my go to company from now on. Thank you Paula for all your help! 603586

Ordered this from etrailer instead of other sites as I knew the shipping would be faster. Sure enough I got the item in 4 days on Thursday and Installed it on Sunday. Very quick and easy. Took longer to get all my tools and set up items together than the actual work. The item was a exact fit with installation being feeding the legs through the holes in the floor down from the inside and installing the 4 clamping bolts to hold them in, the gear box on the lead leg and the cross bar and motor. Now it purrs like a kitten when activated instead of clanking and creaking and blowing fuses. Actual install time was probably 1.5 hours taking my time and injecting extra grease into the gears and lead screw. These replacement units have a grease fitting for both which is great and should allow them to last forever! Being a safety freak I used a 3 ton jack with a 4X6 placed long ways to catch the I beams under the trailer then placed 3 ton car jacks under the frame also and for extra safety backed my truck bed under the tongue for extra security while I worked. The price was crazy great, the fit was excellent and the shipping was fast as usual. less money in parts and 2 hours of work probably easily saved me a grand over taking it to a RV repair shop! Thanks etrailer. Saved me again! 442977

Replaced a pair of Atwood's with these. These were about 3" longer than the Atwood's and weld stops were in different places but I just welded them in. They have nice big feet and are very heavy. Atwood electric motor bolted right in. Overall very happy with the landing gear, as it was cheaper than just the replacement driver leg Atwood that was broke. 414274

DO NOT get thrown by the low price of this unit. The RVLG 8000 works great. I have a 40’ 5th wheel and it was a very simple and direct replacment of the old one. The ordering was very easy and was received within a couple days. The whole replacement only took me (by myself) about 2 hours. This replaced the stock unit which was rated for 5500lbs lift this one is 8000lbs lift which worked much better. This unit also has grease fittings so you can easily keep them lubed. I also took the gear box apart and drilled and taped a grease fitting into it. Very good product I highly recommend it and etrailer. 526577

The drive shaft was bent significantly. I don't think it could have happened normally during shipping, as it took quite a strong press to straighten it sufficiently. Also, the crossover bar was too short for my Hitchhiker II, so used my old one. Also the gearbox was not compatible with my Venture motor so had to use the old one. 539914

The gear box is the higher quality metal (aluminum) kind. If you have plastic it will be a big upgrade. The telescoping square connecting shaft that goes between the legs is a noticeably much thicker steel than the OEM one, though it is not painted and does not seem to be galvanized. I wiped it down with a thin coating of WD-40 to prevent rusting. The legs themselves are much the same as the OEM lippart legs that I had but with a few added features. These legs have an easy to remove top plate that is secured with screws (OEM had roll pins that had to be punched out). They also have grease zerks for the gears and the lead screw. There are tapped holes on either side of the leg so that you can orient the zerks for easy access no matter what orientation your rig calls for on installation. There are plugs that go in the unused holes to keep grease from squirting out. This is a huge plus. The main reason that people have problems with landing gear legs is because the lube dries up and the legs seize or become difficult to actuate or the gears get stripped. The only negative thing that I have to say about the legs is, they have a little more play than the OEM ones (inner leg that sleeves into outer leg has a little play). This is not a problem for me because I have stabilizer bars connected to them. But it could bug some people because it would add slightly more shake to a rig with no stabilization. If you want to replace some aging legs that don't work well this is a very good high value way to do it. Knowing what I know now, because etrailer has such great high value parts, I would buy two gear boxes Item # RVLG-RDBOX, two lead legs Item # RVLG-LEGL, two motors Item # M1230 and a second switch # LC138415. This setup would require proper wiring and fusing for the second switch/motor but would give you dual drive and front leveling capabilities. 634408

  • Replacement Landing Gear Recommendation for Salem By Forest River
The part # RVLG-8000 is going to work well for you since you said the dimensions are the same. The motor kit for this set is part # M1230 and although it may mount differently it will work. The big thing with these kits is the dimensions matching where the landing gear attaches to the trailer. The standard measurement on landing gear legs is 15-1/2 inches between the tabs that are on the legs of the jack like what you see in the picture I attached.

The Bulldog Velocity series jack, # BD185400, would give you the least problems because of its use of a ball-bearing design and not regular screw and nut like other jacks. The result is less friction, less wear and tear, and faster operation. This jack is sold as a single jack only so you would have to get 2 of them and the control box to control the 2 jacks is sold separately as # BD500379. The next best thing would be a Lippert set such as # LC333964. Lippert makes the majority of...

  • Selecting Replacement 5th Wheel Landing Gear for 2008 Keystone Fuzion Toy Hauler
The various 2008 Keystone Fusion toy haulers have published shipping weights in the 12K-12.5K range so the 8000-lb rated landing gear set # RVLG-8000 is rated adequately. I checked the specs for these models but no specifics about the OEM landing gear are provided. You will want to measure the distance between your current landing gear legs' frame clamps and weld stops, as noted in the linked diagram, to ensure they match your existing brackets. This will save you having to have new ones...

  • How To Determine Fit of the Landing Gear Set RVLG-8000
I don't have any specs on your 2008 Heartland Cyclone 4012 5th Wheel Trailer but all you need to do to confirm fit of the Landing Gear Set part # RVLG-8000 is measure the outer tube as well as the weld stop spacing on one of the legs. If the outer tube is 29-1/2" long and the distance between the weld stops is 15-1/2" inside to inside or 17-1/2" outside to outside then the above set will work for you.

  • Landing Gear Recommendation for Replacement on a Jayco Eagle Fifth Wheel
Normally when people say they have a 11-1/2 inches they are measuring between the brackets like you mentioned but the measurement to look for is on the outsides which for you would be 15-1/2 inches and the etrailer Landing Gear Set, part # RVLG-8000 would fit and work well as a replacement.

  • 5th Wheel Landing Gear Motor Operates But No Lift on Jacks
It sounds like the internal screw mechanism in your landing gear is damaged. This would explain why the motor works but still no lift and why with gravity's help it will lower only. When it comes to jacks, winches and landing gear we suggest choosing an item with more capacity than you actually need. Using an over-spec jack means it has to work less hard to do the job and may potentially last longer since it is not being operated near its maximum limit. We do offer a range of powered...

  • How to Identify Correct Replacement Driver Leg for Atwood Landing Gear on 2002 Cardinal 5th Wheel
If you have found metal shavings within the driver leg of your Atwood landing gear it does sound as though the unit may indeed have been damaged. The Cardinal 5th wheel RVs are manufactured by Forest River RV. I checked the specifications for the 2002 Cardinal 5th wheels and there is no 29-foot trailer shown, but there are two model numbers for 30-foot 5th wheel trailers, M28-WB and M29-RLB. Unfortunately no specifics about replacement parts are available from Forest River without a...

  • How to Choose the Correct Replacement Landing Gear for 5th Wheel Trailer
There are a few things that go into making sure you choose the correct replacement landing gear. First you need to be sure that the landing gear is rated properly. If you check out the weight rating on your current landing gear just make sure the replacement is rated for at least the same amount. The next step is making sure that the replacement landing gear has weld stops in the same locations as your current landing gear. This lets you replace the landing gear without having to do...
