Video Transcript for Ultra-Fab Ultra Scissor Jacks Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Ultra Fab Ultra Scissor Jack. For a two-pack the part number is UF48-979002, and for just one, part number is UF48-979006. They're going to stabilize our camper, keep it from moving around. It's not so important, really, during the day. You don't want a lot of movement in your camper, of course, during the day, but as people start to go to sleep, other people stay up a little bit later. As you're getting in and out, you can really disturb that.

Your camper is going to move back and forth. Any movement in the front of the camper, we're going to feel in the back of the camper.By using a properly working set of stabilizer jacks, we can eliminate a lot of that movement. We're going to take a look at the tire intersection. That's the best area where we can see some movement. I'm going to walk around in the camper before.

We'll get our jacks installed, walk about in it after. I think we'll see a pretty big difference. All right. We'll start just by walking in the camper and, remember, no stabilizer jacks, at this point. You can see that movement and that shake. As we get inside, walk towards the back of the camper, or towards the front of the camper, you really see there's quite a bit of movement.

Now to lower our stabilizer down we need a three-quarter inch socket. This is the speed handle, or the crank, that comes with the two pack. If you get just the single, it's not going to come with the handle, so you'll have to reuse your old one. But, if you're just buying one, you're probably replacing one. If you're buying a couple, you might be adding them on, so I think that's a good solution. Now, this is going to go on.

It's a three-quarter inch socket, like we said. You can use a regular three-quarter inch socket, or we do have an adapter for a power drill, that part number is UF48-979005. You just want to crank and, you see, that's going to deploy. Now what we like to do is get all of these to where they'll go down and make contact with the ground. Then we'll raise them up about a half inch to an inch. We're not using these, I need to be very clear, to level our camper. These are just for stabilization, so you want your camper to be level. Then we can take these down so they make contact with the ground. All right. There, we made contact. We'll do that with our three others. Once we have those deployed, I'm going to take, basically, the same path I did before through the camper. You'll see what a difference it makes. We are up the steps inside, moving towards the back, back up towards the front. I can tell you inside it feels much more solid. You don't feel the camper shifting side-to-side as you move around. Now, overall, you can see how our scissor jack is going to work. As we turn our screw, it draws our two endpoints closer together. That's going to cause that expansion. Now the screw is a good heavy-duty screw. It's got good threads on it. You can see it's got the yellow zinc coating. The two nuts, essentially, they're like a barrel nut. You've got one here and one here, also have that yellow zinc coating on it. It comes pre-lubricated. You got some grease on it, there. As long as you maintain that, from time-to-time, this should work for you for a very long time to come. You got good steel construction. I wouldn't call it the heaviest duty steel in the world, but definitely adequate for the job we're asking it to do. Then they've coated that with a black powder coat finish, just to help prevent any rust, corrosion, things like that. Now I like the larger foot plate that we have on this stabilizer compared to some of the other ones. Some of them can be small. It's going to be four and a half inches from the front to the back, and then from outside to outside, we're looking at nine inches.I think this is going to do a really good job on most surfaces, with the exception of some really soft surfaces, soft or loose dirt, or sand, of course, or even mud. You might want to put something underneath it to dissipate it a little bit bigger, but outside of those few instances, which are probably not going to be camping on anyway, these should do a really good job. Now, as far as the attachment point to our camper, you can see our plate, here. This is going to be three and a half inches wide. And, overall, from the end, here, to the opposite end, we're looking at about seven and a quarter inches. Now each of our stabilizers gives us a 6500 pound capacity. So if you're using a two-pack, of course, that's going to be 13000. That's a little bit higher than what you see out of some of the other scissor jacks out there, so I like that. I like that it's a little bit beefier and it's going to do a good job of getting everything stabilized. But, again, keep in mind, these aren't for leveling your camper, just for stabilizing it.Now this jack offers 24 inches of total travel. From your mounting surface to the ground, you want to ensure that your distance is not greater than that. If it is, you'll want to go with one of the 30-inch setups. When this is fully retracted, we have it all the way up, it's going to come down, from the frame, or from our mounting point of our camper, by about four and three-quarters of an inch. We get a lot of benefit out of it, and it doesn't take up a whole lot of room. Now when we compare this to some of the other stabilizers out there, I notice that this screw diameter seems to be a little bit larger. I think it's a little bit more robust. The overall feel of it is very, very similar. The thing I do like about it, lifetime warranty, so if anything goes wrong with any of the working mechanisms, here, you can easily get that replaced at no cost to you.The Ultra Fab Jacks tend to get very good reviews. It's like Gene S. says, "The quality is great and they fit right where the previous jacks fit. The travel trailer feels more stable with the new jacks and I can now get a little help when minor leveling is required. I should have done this right away, not after coming back from a 7000 mile trip."Now, your stabilizer jacks are connected to your frame. You can see, here, in this setup, they're using three self-tapping screws on each side. The great news is, these brackets are pretty universal, so swapping out stabilizer jacks doesn't take a long time, doesn't take a lot of effort. I'm just going to get these backed out of here. Once we get all of our screws out we'll be able to get this old one out of the way. You got four holes, here, for attachment. Often times you're going to see self-tapping screws used in this application. This is right up to our bumper beam, here. Now, if you're adding these. Maybe you're adding these to an enclosed trailer, or something that traditionally doesn't have stabilizers, you just want to make sure you're on a solid piece of steel, like right here, or even on your frame, here. That's going to give you a great attachment point, make sure you've got plenty of support there. Our new one, we're going to bring it up. I'm just going to reuse our existing hardware. Use one to hold it in place, get our other ones lined up and installed. Now these can also be welded right onto your camper, or your trailer, whatever you want to do. We can have it welded, just, basically, all the way around the seam, there. Anywhere we can get a good weld on. These are number 14 self-tapping screws. They also recommend the use of a three-eighths bolt. If you're going to use a three-eighths bolt, definitely use something that's, at least, a grade five. That's going to complete our look at the Ultra Fab Ultra Scissor Jacks with 24 inches of lift.

I purchased these stabilizers to replace the electric stabilizers on my 2017 Jayco. The electric stabilizers were terrible. They rusted in two years and didn’t do much to stabilize the camper. These new ones installed quickly and easily and I immediately noticed the difference. They arrived within 3 days of ordering. 652316

The jacks themselves have worked great, they keep the trailer level and solid during our concession events. I just had them mounted to the trailer so I don't have to put them in and out at each event. The jack handles leave a bit to be desired so I use a 20v drill w/ a 3/4" socket to run them up and down. 240325

Still love em’ after we took a cross country trip of 22 states in 30 days, they got quite the work out and still performed flawlessly. Why the Manufacturer doesn’t put this type of quality on when they build is beyond me, especially for the money you spend on a rig.

if I had to rate this upgrade in difficulty one being the easiest five being the hardest, it would be a one. Super simple. Take the nuts and bolts off your old hardware and install the upgrade in its place. I read some of the reviews were people were annoyed with the counter clockwise rotation and the bolt sticking out too far. I really didn’t see a problem with either. I know you’re not supposed to use a drill to extend and retract these but I always have. I suppose as long as you’re not torquing the heck out of the adjustment screw you shouldn’t have any problems. I always put a small flat 2 x 6 piece of wood under the foot of each one of these. It seems to add quite a bit of stability. 724574

These jacks do the job as intended. However a little disappointed in the build quality. The threaded shaft on one of the jacks is machined off center by as much as .100 of an inch. Still works, just Chinese!! Too bad 707823

Unfortunately after mangling one of my scissor Jacks during a recent camping adventure, I found this twin pack from Etrailer. They were delivered within three days even with free shipping. These Jack's were the exact replacement for my Flagstaff Classic hard sided pop up camper. The Jack's are more heavy duty than the factory original and had it replaced in just a few minutes. Now I even have a spare. Thanks Etrailer 707822

Ask the Experts about this Ultra-Fab Products Camper Jack

Do you have a question about this Camper Jack?

  • Is Travel Trailer Being Slightly Off Level Normal
  • It seems like you are attempting to get your 2019 Forest River Cherokee absolutely level, though you should be focusing on simply getting as level as possible, which is going to depend on various factors like the terrain and your trailer's load, so being slightly off level is normal. For example, you mention it gets more off level when you extend the slide out, which makes sense because the weight is being distributed differently in the trailer compared to when the slide out is not...

Your best option is to use a couple of scissor jacks, # UF48-979002, and bolt them to the bottom of the trailer frame. This will allow you to paint, prime, or otherwise treat...

This stabilizer jack can be adjusted from either side like your scissor jacks to accommodate for surfaces that are not level.

  • Stabilizer Jack Recommendation for 14 Foot Enclosed Cargo Trailer for Motorcycles
  • The stabilizer jack I recommend for your enclosed cargo trailer is the Drop Leg Stabilizer Jack # TJ01RT because it will work well to stabilize your trailer for loading and unloading and is easy to engage when needed. The # TJ01RT drop leg stabilizer jack will install on the bottom of your enclosed trailer and can either be welded or bolted onto the trailer. I've attached an installation video for you to see an example of a bolt on installation. Additionally, this jack can support 1,000...

  • Recommended Scissor Jacks for Dutchman 10,000 Pound RV
  • A set of scissor jacks, one placed on each side of your trailer, will do a great job of reducing side to side movement and roll when the trailer is parked. You will just want to make sure the wheels are blocked so when the jacks are down the trailer will not be able to roll at all. For your 31 foot Dutchman RV that weighs 10,000 pounds, I recommend the Ultra-Fab Ultra Scissor Jacks # UF48-979002. These have a combined support capacity of 13,000 pounds and will provide 24 inches of lift....

  • Scissor Jack Recommendation for Front Stabilizers of 2017 Coachmen Catalina 281 DDS
  • I looked at pictures of your 2017 Coachmen Catalina 281 DDS and found that at the front on the frame standard scissor jacks are mounted on it. We have the Ultra Fab scissor jacks part # UF48-979002 which would be a great option to replace the ones on your trailer that were damaged.

  • Recommended Scissor Jacks For Primetime Avenger Travel Trailer That has 8,400 Lbs Dry Weight
  • We do carry scissor jacks that can handle the weight you described for your 2014 Primetime Avenger 32BIT Trailer. I recommend the Ultra-Fab Products Trailer Jack, part # UF48-979002. This comes with 2 jacks in the set and each jack has a weight capacity of 6,500 lbs, which gives you a total weight capacity of 13,000 lbs. That is more than enough to handle the 8,400 lbs you said you have. These jacks can be bolted or welded on for installation. To make it easier to raise and lower...

  • Recommended Stabilizer Jacks For 5th Wheel With Auto Leveling System
  • The Ultra-Fab 5th Wheel King Pin Tripod Stabilizer - Steel - 37" to 50" - 5,000 lbs # UF19-950001 are great for taking away the bounce/sway and can be used with your auto-leveling 5th wheel especially the bounce in the space over the king pin. The auto-leveling jacks are great for making your system level, but are not any different in stabilizing than any other jacks. The nice feature is that stabilizing is easy once level because it is simply adding support to remain level. If you...

  • Brake Controller, Weight Distribution, and Stabilizer Jack Recommendation for 2012 Nissan Frontier
  • For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well. For an install harness needed for this...

  • Can Scissor Jacks Be Used to Stabilize a 31 Foot Class C RV
  • Yes, scissor jacks like # UF48-979002 work well as stabilizers for trailers and RVs. You also might want to consider the 4-pack of stabilizers, # UF48-979004. Each one of these has a capacity of 6,000 pounds. They are for stabilizing only and not for lifting. They stack or nest together or easy storage. They are height adjustable from 11 inches to 17 inches. A great option if you do not want something permanently attached to the trailer.

  • Recommended Leveling System for 4,800 Pound Travel Trailer
  • I may have a solution for you, however as you mentioned in your question, leveling jacks like the Ultra-Fab Scissor Jacks # UF48-979002 are not designed to lift the trailer, but to simply stabilize a portion of its weight. There is not a trailer jack type leveling system currently available that is designed to actually lift the trailer. I instead recommend looking at the Andersen Camper Wheel Chock and Leveler # AM3604. This is a great system that works as both a wheel chock and leveler...

  • Can the Scissor Jack part # UF48-979002 Lift Trailer Enough to Level Trailer
  • You would want to use the Scissor Jack part # UF48-979002 to level the trailer and would not need to also use a separate jack to do the lifting. These scissor jacks would operate similarly to jacks that come with vehicles for changing the spare. That being said you would not want to use these to lift the wheels in the air.

  • Recommended Socket Adapter To Use With A Drill For Operating A Ultra-Fab Scissor Trailer Jack
  • You sure can use a cordless or corded drill to operate the Ultra-Fab Products Trailer Jack, part # UF48-979002. All you need is the Ultra-Fab Speed Socket Power Drill Adapter, part # UF48-979005. The hex socket is 3/4 inches and will work great in a 3/8 inch drill. Using the socket makes the operation up to 10 times faster. The scissor jack can be used to level and stabilize your trailer, but is not designed for lifting.

  • Easy Way to Lift Tandem Axle Wheel Off Ground to Change Flat Tire
  • The Ultra-Fab Ultra Scissor Jacks # UF48-979002 can be used on up to 6,500 lb trailers as stabilizer jacks, but they do not have the lifting capacity to actually lift a 6,500 lb trailer off the ground. Attempting to do so could damage the jack and potentially damage your trailer as well as hurt someone attempting to change a tire with this jack. For a tandem axle trailer a much easier way to lift a trailer to change the spare would be to use the part # AM3620 instead. I attached a review...

  • Recommended Leveling Jacks for 2016 Coachmen Freelander RV
  • To stabilize your 2016 Coachmen Freelander RV, I recommend looking at scissor jacks like the Ultra-Fab # UF48-979002. These can be either bolted or welded to the frame of your RV and they feature large footplates to provide excellent stability. They include an E-Z crank handle for easy operation and each single jack has a weight capacity of 6,500 pounds. Mounting 4 of the jacks (2 sets) to the bottom of the frame at the four corners of your RV will provide great stability and keep it from...

  • Trailer Jack Weight Capacities for Lifting and Holding Weight
  • A trailer tongue jack like Pro Series # PSEA20000103 has a rated lift capacity of 2000-lbs. Two of them would have twice the capacity but this type of jack is typically used singly on an A-Frame trailer. Other types of jacks like a 5th wheel dual-jack landing gear kit # BD500162 consists of two separate but interconnected jacks each able to lift 4000-lbs which gives this kit its overall 8K rating. In comparison a stabilizer scissor jack like # UF48-979002 will have a much higher weight...

  • Stabilizer Jacks for a Mercedes Sprinter
  • There is no difference between Bulldog jack, # BD178201, and jack 1782010117. They are the same part except BD178201 is our part number for it and 1782010117 is the manufacturers part number for it. These jacks would not be the best option for use as stabilizers for your Mercedes Sprinter. I recommend something like # UF48-979004 which is a set of 4 stabilizers rated for 6,000 pounds each. As long as you have 11 inches or more between the ground and the bottom of the vehicle frame these...

  • Scissor Jack Recommendation for Trailer to Replace Drop Leg Stabilizers
  • Looks like you have a swivel style stabilizer jack like the Atwood part # AT82301 on your trailer and are wanting to go to the Ultra Fab kit part # UF48-979002 that you referenced. We don't have a bracket for this application exactly like you listed, but if you took the trailer to a fabricator like you mentioned they'd have no problem either welding them to your trailer or creating a bracket.
