Video Transcript for Ultra-Fab Products Camper Jack - A-Frame Jack - UF38-944037 Review

We're going to be taking a look at the Ultra-fab Electric A-frame Jack with a 7-way plug. This jack features a lift capacity of 3500-pounds. It's going to provide plenty of breakaway power to easily release from the hitch bolt. It's going to travel about 10 inches in 50 seconds. It's going to feature a 12-volt motor that powers the jack, which is going to eliminate the need for hand cranking. It's going to feature a built-in water-resistant toggle switch that allows you to extend and retract the jack that's located right here. It's going an integrated overload protection.

That's going to prevent gearing and motor damage. It's going to feature all steel gears. They're very strong and durable. It's going to have a nice water-resistant gear and motor housing. It's going to feature a 7-way RV style plug.

This is going to pull power directly from your trailer connector. It's going to be great for trailers without batteries. You don't have to manually wire or hard wire anything for power. All you have to do is plug the 7-way into the 7-way on your vehicle, and you're good to go. The wiring harness is going to measure about 45 1/2-inches long. It does come with a hook and loop strap or keeper to keep the connector secured and stored when it's not being used.

You can actually loop it back around to the jack if you want. Here, at the top, it's going to have a rubber plug. This is to allow you to gain access to the end of the drive collar for those instances where you may need to manually operate the jack. It's also going to come with a 9/16-inch deep well socket for manual operation. Attach it to the socket wrench.

You can raise and lower the jack manually. Maintenance is also very easy with this jack. There's a couple of things you always want to be sure to grease when you are an owner of a jack. You want to grease that internal component; that long threaded rod. You want to take care of the gearing on the unit. To grease the rod, we're going to have a grease zerk fitting right here, that allows us to attach a grease gun and pump in the grease. It's going to be protected with this nice rubber sleeve. It's really tight, so you just got to wiggle that back up over the connection point there. It's keep dirt and moisture out of there. When it comes to greasing the gears, you'll just need to remove the gear cover. It's held on there with four Phillips-head screws. Remove that, and you can apply the grease to the gears. Another neat feature of the unit, it's going to feature dual side lights. Make's it very easy to hook up or even to disconnect, even in low light settings. You can set everything up. You can get disconnected or hooked up or whatever. It's just nice. It's going to provide light on both sides of the trailer jack so the dual side lights make it very simple to setup even in low-light conditions. I'm going to show you that. I'm hook it up hook it up to power towards the end of the video and actually show you what those lights look like in a low light setting. That way, you can get a good idea how bright they are. This is an easy bolt on or weld on installation for A-frame trailers. Mounting hardware's not included. We recommend Grade 5 hardware, or you can use your previously installed mounting hardware. It's got multiple mounting holes around here so it's designed to fit any setup that is designed to accommodate an A-frame jack. That's really nice design of the unit; elongated holes and multiple holes that will fit your application. It's also going to come with three serrated lock washers for a nice, tight, secure connection point there with your hardware. It's also going to have the round removable foot plate that's going to be held on there with just your standard pin and clip. That can be removed. This is going to give us a 6-inch diameter. It's a nice large design. It's really going to help provide stability. It's going to prevent sinking, even on softer surfaces. That is included. Again, 6-inch diameter. It's going to come with the pin and clip to easily get that secured onto the bottom of that inner tube there of our jack. Now, the unit's going to be made from a sturdy steel construction. It's going to have a black wrinkle powder-coat finish. It's very strong and durable. It's highly resistant to rust and corrosion. It's going to offer a very nice texture design. Few measurements I want to mention for you real quick. With the unit in the fully retracted position, if you measure from the ground to the bracket, we're looking at a retracted height of 9 1/2-inches. With it fully extended, that measurement increases to 27 1/2-inches; which is going to give this jack a lift or travel of 18 inches. The outer tube diameter is a diameter of 2 inches. Inner tube diameter is 1 3/4-inches. All right. Let's go ahead and hook it up to power. I'll show you what those lights look like in a low-light setting. Let's go ahead and remove our strap. Again, we're go have about 45 1/2-inches of wiring here for our harness. I'm just going to bring up our power box. Then, what we'll do is we'll be able to connect it to power. We'll get all these connected and then you'll be able to see it with those lights on. Here, you can see the lights on; sends light at a downward angle. It's really going to help illuminate where you're going to be working, when you're setting up and when you're disconnecting. The built-in dual-sided lights, real neat feature of the unit. To control those lights, you have a simple on and off switch here at the back. That's going to do it for today's look at the Ultra-Fab Electric A-frame Jack with the 7-way plug.

Extremely pleased with this purchase. The jack was very easy to install - took less than 10 minutes to remove the old jack and insert this new one which fit perfectly. Assuming it lasts (and I have no reason to think it won't as it looks well-constructed), it will prove to be a very nice addition to my camper as it was quite some effort to lift it up enough to get the weight distribution hitch spring bars into position. I like that there is an easily accessible nut for manual operation, and a grease point. I bought the cover for it to keep out the elements. 364556

A year later it continues to work flawlessly - have not had a single problem with it of any kind and continue to find it a pleasure to use. Very happy with this purchase.

Item was shipped quickly. Installed it on a 20' enclosed cargo trailer. Works like a charm! Love the feature of using the truck 7 pin plug for power instead of a dedicated battery. 638644

The electric A FRAME jack with the 7 -Way Plug is the second one that I ordered. The unit is most helpful as it has the electric hook up to the plug in and do not require an extra battery. Very quick to install.I would recommended that you include with the star locking washers 3 new mounting bolts. When removing one of the original mounting bolts it broke. 521350

Works just as expected. Have a 20 ft trailer with a 38 horsepower tractor. About 5000 lbs total. Will lift with no problems. Love the 7 pin connection. No extra battery needed. 460021

Works great. Put it a Jayco and when I traded it in kept it and put on my new Summerland. It does all that I hoped and has made hooking up and unhooking a breeze. It has made my setup quicker and easier. I am glad I purchased it. Also, your price is so much lower than anyone else for the same jack. I love that is power by my tow vechile and I can still use it if my battery on my trailer dies or is discharged. I would highly recommend it to others to purchase. David. 448514

this is my second one, for a second trailer. I am fully satisfied with the first one. I have learned to put a block of wood under it to give additional height on uneven ground, and to expedite the process. Easy installation. Great product. 434770

Easy enough to bolt on, but it doesn't work. It blew my fuse. It also hangs so low that I could get over a speed bump. Ruined a trip. Total waste of money. Hope they take it back. 413255

The Jack works great. However there is no documentation as to how much current draw it uses and I was frequently blowing fuses. I finally replaced and in-line fuse with a self setting circuit breaker and I never had a problem after that. Also after just a short time the lights on exterior stopped working. 409545

Glad to have it. EASY installation. Going camping this weekend to try it out, on my 18 foot camper trailer. Nice to not have to do all the hand cranking. Suggested the package include new bolts, rather then requiring use of old bolts. Awesome to just plug it into my vehicle and raise and lower. Nice feature having lights. I recommend it at this time. 405204

Great value for the price. Jack should have a warning device built in to alert (stupid people like me) when you are approaching the end of travel either up or down, so that your not blowing fuses all the time. My personal thanks to you for doing a follow up after a person has had time to actually USE the product. 344428

Absolutely perfect in fact I used my trailer today, I had a little trouble with my first electric jack , You couldn’t ask for a better company they sent me another jack under warranty I returned the old one in the same box, took it to UPS done. It’s very satisfying to deal with an American company that really stands behind their product. Thank You

This powered jack works great on my 6x12 enclosed trailer. i have the trailer loaded down with tools and this jack handles the load well. In the past year I have used the jack multiple time a week and never have had an issue. This is a great product for a fair price compared to others. 332833

It looks like what you did was take the pain in the a.. to wire Harbor Freight model and put a 7 pin on it. I bought the HF model that was the same price as your and spent half a weekend wiring and installing it, to find out it didn't work. Yours works perfectly. Thanks a lot. 325842

Great product. The only problem I've had is, if you raise the jack, say after hitching up, and then hit raise instead of lower, the fuse in my vehicle blows. If the jack is already topped or bottomed out and you try to go in the wrong direction the fuse for the trailer lights blows. So I just make sure I leave some room in either direction. Jack was very easy to install, and combined with the eTrailer hitch camera life is much easier. 309940

What I appreciate most about this purchase is the helpful and complete website @ etrailer.com that let me compare various makes and models and learn just which unit to buy. I'm no idiot, but at the same time I didn't exit the womb with complete knowledge of which electric jack to buy. Because I use a load-leveling hitch, I need to take the weight off the trailer tongue and lift the weight off my truck's frame. For this reason, I bought the highest-rated (in pounds) lift that would fit my 2" mounting hole. The "Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack w/ 7-Way Plug - 18" Lift - 3,500 lbs" installed in about 20 minutes and lifts my 20' camper tongue beautifully. Since it's October in VT and the leaves are already turning, I won't have much time to test it before winter, but the early results are simply perfect. Finally, the price was competitive, the shipping was free, and the shipping was fast. I have come to appreciate etrailer.com as a vendor. 305096

This makes me feel I have been in the dark ages too long. Time after time, I have bent over (with plates and screws in my back) and jack my trailer up and even turning forever to get the leg down. Now, I press button and it is done for me. I have spent more money on a lousy family dinner at a restaurant than this cost. So I ask myself, "What were you thinking?" I have needed this for a very long time. This even has a 7/way plug! No external battery required...duh. 260950

Great product, and great value. I do not expect to have any trouble with this electric jack. By having a jack that runs off the trailer plug on my truck, I will never have the chance of damaging the jack motor due to powering a jack off a battery with less than 12 volts. I installed this on a 26ft camp trailer that was difficult to manually raise or lower due to a back injury....now I can enjoy camping again. 250251

  • Troubleshooting Ultra Fab Powered Jack that Stopped Working After Winter Storage
  • The Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack # UF38-944037 that you have gets power by plugging into a trailer connector 7-way on a vehicle. Typically what you described is corrosion on the connector from driving through the winter. Try cleaning of all of the pins on the 7-ways of both the vehicle and the jack and try again. If still nothing you will want to verify that the 7-way on your vehicle does have power on the 12 volt circuit. This is the 1:00 pin of the 7-way on your vehicle.

  • How Do Powered Trailer Jacks Draw Power, From Battery or 7-Way
  • The Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack # UF38-944037 that you referenced would simply plug into the 7-way at the rear of your tow vehicle and would draw the power needed for the jack to work from the vehicle battery. The only jack we carry that has a remote is the Husky Tow Brute part # HT87247. This jack grounds through the mounting base of the jack and then has a single wire for power to run to either a battery or the 12 volt power source of the 7-way. I attached an install video for...

  • How Does the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-3000NG Get Power
  • Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-3000NG gets its power from a trailer mounted battery. If you do not have a battery and don't want to add one there is a jack that plugs into a 7-Way connector to receive power. It is Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack # UF38-944037. I have included links to videos on both jacks for you.

  • Connecting the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack with 7-Way Plug to Power
  • The Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack # UF38-944037 that you referenced is designed to get power from the tow vehicle by connecting to the vehicle's 7-Way trailer connector. The connector on the jack will plug into the vehicle's 7-Way socket in place of the trailer's connector. The jack has a 7-Way RV-style plug that uses the ground and 12V power wire connections at the rear of your tow vehicle in order to power the jack. The # UF38-944037 is a great jack option for trailers that do not...

  • How Does the 5K Husky Super Brute Electric Trailer Jack Get Power
  • The Ultra-Fab Phoenix trailer jack # UF38-944055 does get powered by a trailer-mounted 12 volt battery. It has a power wire that will attach to the positive battery terminal or to the 12 volt circuit at a junction box (if the trailer is equipped with one). The other wire is then attached to the negative side of the battery. Another option is Ultra-Fab jack # UF38-944037 which plugs into a 7-Way trailer connector to get its power from the 12 volt circuit. This jack is rated for 3,500...

  • Troubleshooting Ultra-Fab 4500 Electric Tongue Jack That Blinks and Does Not Operate
  • The most probable cause for the lights on your Ultra-Fab electric tongue jack to blink, and for the jack not to operate, is a weak battery and/or grounding problem. This jack grounds through its round mounting flange which contacts the trailer frame. These two mating surfaces must be clean bare metal, free of paint, rust, grease and dirt. Often the fix is simply to unbolt the jack and sand the bottom of the flange and the top of the mounting point on the trailer to expose bare metal....

  • Can a Manual A-Frame Trailer Jack be Raised and Lowered Using a Power Drill
  • Like you said there are some stabilizer jacks and even some winches that will allow you to attach a drill to raise/lower or reel in legs or line much faster. But there are no A-frame jacks, or any regular trailer tongue jacks, that I have seen that have this type of feature. If manually cranking the handle starts to be a chore the best option is to go with an electric jack. The most cost effective one is Ultra-Fab jack # UF38-944037 rated for 3,500 pounds.

  • If you are looking for a powered A-frame jack that can plug into a vehicle 7-way as a power source we have the Ultra Fab kit part # UF38-944037 which would be exactly what you need. You could potentially wire up the # EJ-3520-BBX like this as well but it would require wiring it to a 7-way like the # A7WCB.

  • Are Fuses Needed on the Wiring for the Bulldog Powered Drive Trailer Jack BD500200
  • The Bulldog Powered Drive a-frame trailer jack # BD500200 is circuit protected internally so additional fuses or breakers are not required. The jack should be ran off of a trailer mounted battery and not off of the 12 volt circuit through the trailer connector. Tow package wiring is not heavy enough for the full amperage draw of the jack and it could result in melted tow package wiring and/or a drained vehicle battery. For a jack that was designed to plug into a 7-Way trailer connector...

  • What Size Battery Should be Used to Power an Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Trailer Jack
  • The 3500 pound Ultra-Fab A-frame jacks such as # UF38-944037 have a 25 amp circuit breaker to handle the draw of the motor so the battery will need to be rated at least that high which usually isn't a problem for 12 volt car batteries. The slow blow fuse is actually a 30 amp. A breakaway battery will not be sufficient since the amp hour rating is too low. You really need an actual car battery.

  • Power Wire Gauge on Ultra Fab Powered Trailer Tongue Jack # UF38-944037 and # UF38-944017
  • I checked with my Ultra-Fab representative, and found that the power wire on the # UF38-944037 is the same as that of the # UF38-944017. Both are 10 gauge. Powering a jack off of a trailer mounted battery will work better than using the accessory circuit off the 7-way. The closer a powered accessory (like a tongue jack) is to it's power source, the better it'll operate, due to the fact that the longer the wire run is, the more power you'll lose along the way.

  • Troubleshooting Ultra Fab Electric A-Frame Jack # UF38-944037
  • Thank you for your recent purchase. Ultra Fab Electric A-Frame Jack # UF38-944037 uses a 7-way RV-style plug to make its two wiring connections, ground and +12V. The other locations in the plug have no contacts. You can test both the vehicle's trailer socket and the jack's plug to determine where the problem is. If you have a circuit tester like # ALL640595 you can apply it to the pins on your vehicle 7-way. Please refer to the linked photo for the usual wiring configuration. The...

  • Manual Crank Option for Ultra Fab Powered A-Frame Jack
  • For the Ultra-Fab powered A-frame jacks there isn't a manual crank handle available since the manual crank is a 14 mm bolt head. This was designed so that you wouldn't have to remember to keep a crank handle with you and could just use a wrench and/or socket. The only option we have is the part # UF48-979005 which can fit a power drill and allow you to quickly operate the manual crank.

  • Troubleshooting Blinking Light and Nothing Working on TL4500 Electric Camper Jack
  • We do not currently carry the TL4500 model jack you mentioned but if the ground is good and your battery is fully charged then there is likely a short somewhere on the wiring that is causing the issue you're having. I recommend simply inspecting the jack's wiring for any damaged, pinched, or exposed sections that need to be replaced. You can also remove the housing to inspect the switch wiring or to see if any water might have found its way inside that could be causing the short. If...

  • Is a 3,500 lb Powered Jack Strong Enough for a Trailer with 7k Axle Capacity
  • For your trailer a 3,500 lb powered jack like the part # UF38-944037 would be more than adequate. The lifting strength for a jack is rated for the tongue weight of the trailer. If your trailer weighed 7,000 lbs you would have tongue weight of around 700 lbs so this would work well. This jack powers by plugging into a 7-way trailer connector. If you wanted one that hardwires to a trailer you would want the part # UF38-944017 instead.
