Video Transcript for Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Trailer Jack with detachable footplate, offering 18 inches of lift and a 2,500-pound capacity. The part number is UF38-944017, so this Ultra-Fab jack is designed to make hooking up your trailer and disconnecting it much easier. Basically, when connected to a 12-volt power source, whether that's your truck or your battery, at the flip of a switch, we're able to raise and lower a jack to whatever height we need.To operate the jack, we've got a toggle switch located right here on the bottom. It's very easy to find, it's got the rubber case around it to give a superior moisture resistance. We don't have to worry about things getting inside. The entire jack itself has a .. it's almost like a crinkle, a powder coat finish to it.It offers a really nice appearance, so it's also very resistant to any kind of scratching or chipping.

Something else I really like about this jack is that we have a full metal housing, the motor case and everything. So, even if it does get bumped through something, you're loading something up and accidentally hit it, you won't have to worry about that case cracking like we see with some of the plastic housing jacks, but not only is that powder coat finish gonna give us a good-looking jack, it also is very, very good at resisting corrosion. The same can be said for the inner tube and the footplate, which have the clear zinc coat. Now, the diameter of the footplate is six inches from one edge to the other. What this does is it spreads the energy of this jack out over a greater area. It's gonna prevent it from sinking down in the ground, whether you're in mud, gravel, anything like that, the softer surfaces, you won't have to worry about.

Right here on the back, you'll see we've got the toggle switch to turn our lights on and off. These are positioned to the side and they have about a 180-degree kind of a range to them. So, they're gonna come in really handy with weight distribution set ups, trying to get those attached, and even can shed some light down on your coupler when you're trying to attach that. Now, in the overall brightness spectrum of them, I'd say they're about middle of the road. They're certainly brighter than what we see on some jacks, but there are other jacks out there that can be a lot more intense. Now, in the event of a power failure, whether that's coming from our truck or maybe a dead battery on our trailer, we'll still be able to operate the jack just by removing the cap on top, gonna use the provided 9/16 socket that goes on top. Then, we can operate it either up or down to get it connected.

Let's see. We've got a rubber o-ring right around that cap to prevent any moisture in going down this area. Also, at each seam, you're gonna have a nice rubber seal. This is gonna protect the internal components from any type of moisture or dust getting inside there, ensuring our jack's gonna work well for a long time. Now, when sliding down our cover there, you can see you've got access right into that screw, that way we can keep it properly lubricated.

We won't have to worry about corrosion there. Now, with our jack in the highest position, we're gonna have a bracket height of around 27 inches. Now, to ensure you have room to mount your jack, we're also gonna tell you how high it is from the bracket to the top. Looks like that comes in just under 19 inches, so you just wanna make sure you've got clearance. Something else to keep in mind, not only from the jack to be mounted forward and back, but we can turn that mounted side to side for some additional clearance. Now, to begin your installation, of course, you'll need your old jack to be removed. To do that, we just use jack stands to support the weight of the trailer. Of course, you'll want it properly chucked. At that point, we'll take the jack, gonna drop it right down in the opening. So, this has a two-inch tube, so you wanna make sure your opening is at least that big. It'll also work out if you have the two and a quarter inch opening. So, to mount our jack, we're gonna use our existing hardware. If you're adding a jack to a trailer that didn't originally have one, you wanna be sure you're using a three-eighths diameter bolt. You want that to be grade five. Our trailer is threaded, so we're just gonna use a washer and a lock washer. If yours isn't, you may need nuts to go on the bottom. So, to mount the jack, traditionally, you're just gonna have the motor forward. There's holes to accommodate that, but you can also rotate it. If you need a little bit more clearance or if you don't have the room back here, that can help out a little bit, just get our holes lined up there and get our bolts installed in all three locations.Once we've got them all three started, we can snug them down within torque into the specifications we can find listed in our instructions. Now, as far as wiring the jack, you've got a couple options. In the instructions, it's gonna tell you take the black lead to the negative terminal on your battery. The red lead should go to the positive terminal on your battery. You do have a fuse holder that's gonna go on that red lead, you want that connected at the end of the wire, right at your connection. Now, this trailer doesn't have an on-board battery. So, we're gonna be using the vehicle's source for power. This just means we're gonna run it through a junction box, apply it to the negative and positive side of the junction box and still use the fuse holder to keep everything protected. Now, I like to use a few zip ties and you can see, we're just gonna zip tie our wire off to the jack. The service port we talked about is here, so you wanna make sure that sleeve can still slide up and down. So, don't zip tie too close to that. Now, to attach the fuse holder to your red wirek . just wanna trim off our excess. We're gonna use a heat-shrink butt connector, part number is DW05745, gonna slide on.Now, depending on where you're batteries are located, you may need to extend your wires to get there. You can use this same technique to do that, just be sure to use a minimum of a 10-gage wire. For attaching the fuse holder . just gonna trim that off. For the junction box, I need a little bit longer lead. For your battery, you may cut it square. It's gonna depend on your application, of course, and we'll strip that back. We'll attach it to our wire and then, the other end's gonna go to our power source. Now, we can apply some heat to get that shrink down. We can use a lighter, we can use a mini torch or a heat gun, just be careful not to overheat them. Now, depending on your application, typically, you'll wanna use a ring terminal to make your connection to your power source. This is a one-eighth inch ring terminal. They're available on our website at various sizes. So, just depending on either the post on your battery or your junction box, choose one that's appropriate.Once we have that hooked up, we're ready to install our footplate. We'll do that just by sliding the pin through and secure that with our clip. Now, since this is pre-drilled, you can also use a drop leg or a wheel here if you want a little bit faster operation. You wanted to drop the leg down or be able to move it a little bit. Both of those are available options that'll fit right on and that'll complete our look at the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Trailer Jack with detachable footplate, part number UF38-944017.

Received as stated, very easy hook up, works great, hope the longevity is as good, did not need the fuse connection as camper already has 30AMP FUSE. 491036

Works really good, One problem if you lower all the way a fuse will blow, I can live with that.

This unit was purchased to replace an UltraFab that I bought in 2007; that would mean my first unit lasted over 12 years. The old unit was still running, but the motor had a couple of dead spots and I got tired of bumping it to get it moving. I consider anything electrical that sits outside for this long, and still technically works, pretty decent quality. The new unit looks very similar to the old one, except the lights are now LED and there is a grease hole on the shaft. The addition of a grease point is great because my old unit could not be easily greased (thus, never was). This should extend the life of the new unit. Installation was easy, except the unit would not power up reliably. The issue appears to be the fuse holder supplied with the kit. The fuse was too loose in the holder and the power connection was weak. To solve the problem (I hope) I took the fuse holder apart and stretched the internal spring. This seemed to fix the problem. I hope this unit gives me the service my last one did. I bet it will. 615415

The fit was flawless and it handles my Flagstaff Mac with ease. It is a pop-up and not a huge load, but it saves a 70 yr. old a lot of cranking. Install was a breeze. Love it when items are as described. 6 day delivery over a holiday long week-end. Thanks for the great service. 269102

Extremely easy to install. Heavier material and better made than the tongue jack that came on my trailer. So far very happy with the product and think it will be easy to operate when traveling. Shipping was to be in 5 days and received product in two days. Great! Cover for the jack seems to be well constructed with a draw string closure. Will buy from this company again in the future and will recommend them to my camping friends and family. Great customer service and friendly person on the phone. 575798

I ordered a new switch for my existing jack not knowing if it was the switch that was bad on my jack or the motor. I also ordered a new jack expecting the worse. I replaced the switch first and lo and behold it fixed my existing jack. I contemplated sending the new jack that I now didn't need back to etrailer but I have decided to keep the new jack in the box and have it in our camper as a spare. I appreciated the prompt delivery of the items ordered. 432613

Installs easily, works great. Be careful to shut off the up/down switch as soon as the jack reaches the end of its travel, otherwise you will blow a fuse. 675404

etrailer had the best price. Shipped to me in a few days. Took about 1 hour to convert from the 4th bad liepert smart jack. Works fast and easy. As I read on other reviews it is "wobbly" side to side compared to the old jack but rating are equal. Put on my enclosed ATC car trailer. Have not yet loaded the car - I think that should only be done when "hooked up". Check with me in a few months after I have used it a bunch. 606067

Low price but high quality. Works faster than most Jack's out there. My only concern is the length of the shaft. I need to use a 6 inch block under it. Works great. I now have 2 of them. One on my enclosed cargo trailer and one on my 26 ft travel trailer. Highly recommend. It 561752

Well I guess its been a year since purchasing the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack as per the email I received from etrailer. I have been very happy with the purchase, this is so much better than cranking a handle!! Installation was very easy too. I liked this one since it has a zerk fitting for lubing the jack where others didn't seem to have that. All in all, I would purchase this jack again and through etrailer.com too. 561195

I received your product in tack. Installed the tongue jack and it worked fine as it was claimed it would . Have not taken it out on a run yet. I'm going to Red River, NM. this week 5-21-2018. Will be out having fun in the out doors. If the jack preforms well you will see a five star rating. Thanks for the videos that made the change from my tongue jack to yours. Helpful. 511157

This seems like a good jack. My MAIN complaint would be that in the box came the jack and a socket and the fuse wire. The jack probably SHOULD have had 3 new bolts for attaching it. And at least the terminal ends for the electrical connection to your battery 493495

UF3205 jack - yay came one day earlier than you said! Couldn’t be happier. This is a much better jack than what it replaces. Thank you very much, you are on top of your game 490424

Mechanical installation was very easy. Removed the three 9/16 bolts from the existing crank and installed the new one. The hardest part was the electrical connection. The new jack had 10 gauge wire and the trailers wiring was 16 gauge at best. Very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others! 451629

  • Determining the Correct Electric Jack for Jayco 22FB Trailer
There are no obvious cons to having an electric jack as opposed to a manual jack and most people prefer an electric jack due to its ease of use. As for what electric jack you need for your Jayco 22FB, that is going to depend on the diameter of the jack hole; it will need to accept the outer tube diameter of the jack. For example, the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack # UF38-944017 has a 2" outer tube diameter, the etrailer Electric Jack # EJ-3520-BBX has a 2-1/4" outer tube diameter and...

Powered trailer jacks allow use of a manual crank for emergency purposes (like a power loss) and some can be used with a drill attachment and a cordless drill. But an impact wrench puts too much stress into the mechanism and this type of tool should not be used on a jack. We do offer a replacement shear pin # UF38-751025 that fit jack model Ultra 3502 for serial numbers up to 010150 (which were made before 2010). • Can a Caster Wheel be Used on Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Trailer Jack
While you could put a wheel on an electric jack such as # UF38-944017 the problem is that the wheels are rated much lower than the jacks so the jack would be limited to the capacity of the wheel. What I recommend is to use a trailer dolly such as # MT70225. We use these around here sometimes to move trailers around. The 1-7/8 inch ball ensures that any coupler size will fit (doesn't have to be exact because the trailer isn't being towed). Another option is a jack and trailer mover in...

I spoke with Ultra-Fab and they said if the jack was made before 2015 then there are no replacement motors available. The upgraded model is the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack part # UF38-944017 which has brighter LED lights, an external ground wire for more dependability, and a more secure cover for better protection from the elements.

There are a few things that could be the issue with your Ultra-Fab electric tongue jack 3502 # UF38-944017. The switch, the motor, the threaded rod or the gears could have gone bad. There is also an auto-reset circuit breaker and a 30-amp slow blow fuse. To determine the issue, I first recommend manually trying to operate it using the 9/16 inch socket. If you can raise and lower the jack, we know the mechanical components of threaded rod and gears work. If not, then it is time...

  • Replacement Powered Jack Recommendation for Keystone Springdale with Broken Jack
Since nearly all A-frame trailer jacks don't have replacement motors your best option will be to replace the entire jack. This jack also has lifting capacity of 4,500 lbs so it would be more than enough for your Keystone Springdale.

You'll need to chose a jack whose capacity is greater than the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the camper. Next, remove the gear cover via 4 phillips screws to expose the gears. Then, grease the gears using chassis lube and reinstall the...

  • Troubleshooting a Ultra Fab Jack part # UF38-944017 that Stopped Working
It sounds like the motor of the Ultra Fab Jack part # UF38-944017 has gone out, which is unfortunate since the motor is not replaceable. There is a chance that the problem is the switch though. Which the replacement switch is part # UF38-75-1037 which would be an easy thing to try before having to replace the entire jack.

  • Powered A-Frame Jack Recommendation for Starcraft Autumn Ridge Outfitter 2018 Model 19BH
My favorite powered jack to recommend is the Husky Jack part # HT87247 as it has bearings in the screw which allow it to operate quicker and smoother. It also shuts off automatically before topping or bottoming out. Other jacks will allow you to go too far with the jack but in doing so you damage the threads of the screw. It has a lifting capacity of 4,500 lbs which would be more than you'd need but will ensure that the jack will operate quickly and last a long time. For a lighter duty...

  • Recommended Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack
Thank you for your photo showing your A-frame trailer's jack mount. This does appear to be an industry-standard set-up. The Husky # HT87247, which has a round mounting flange, will fit. At most you might have to use a drill bit to slightly open up one of the holes to allow the hardware to pass through. Jacks, like winches and other similar items, tend to last longest when they are used well below their absolute maximum capacity. If you have a trailer with tongue weight of up to 1000-lbs,...

  • Troubleshooting Powered Trailer Jack that Doesn't Always Power Up and Down
Make sure the main ground wire on your trailer harness is connected to a clean metal surface of your trailer frame. It sounds like your jack has a weak ground and because of that it doesn't want to operate consistently. By improving the ground of your trailer harness the jack should start to function normally again.

  • Connecting a Power Lead From an Electric A-Frame Jack to Trailer Accessory Battery
If you are using an internally grounded electric jack like the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack, part # UF38-944017, you simply run the power lead to the accessory battery on the trailer and connect it to the positive terminal using something like a ring terminal, like part # DW05705-1. You will also want to make sure the negative post of the battery is grounded to the trailer frame so the circuit is complete. This type of jack will only require the power lead wire to be connected as...

  • Replacement for Powered Tongue Jack That Spins But Does Not Raise or Lower
If your trailer's powered tongue jack's motor is operating but the jack does not raise or lower, then it is likely that the gearbox or main screw is damaged. There may be a repair kit available for your brand and model of jack; you can let me know the brand and part number and include a photo to let us check, if you like. You can also simply bolt on a new electric a-frame jack. You can see all of our electric a-frame trailer jacks on the linked page. It is best to choose a jack that...

  • Does Ultra-Fab Powered A-Frame Trailer Jack have a Manual Crank
There isn't a hand crank for Ultra-Fab trailer jack # UF38-944017 but instead it uses a 9/16 inch deep well socket that you could use with a ratchet to manually crank the jack should you need to. I have included a link to a video review of this jack for you.

  • Barker Manufacturing VIP 3000 Jack Will Retract but Not Extend
The most likely cause of the issues you are having with your Barker Manufacturing VIP 3000 Jack is going to be either a poor power source or bad ground. I recommend you check to make sure you have a full 12 volts going into the jack. If so then I would reground the jack after sanding down the surface or reattaching the ground wire. If you don't have 12 volts on the power wire then make sure the battery is fully charged and there are no breaks in the wire. The jack would still retract but...

  • Can an Ultra-Fab Electric Trailer Jack that has Been Over Extended be Repaired
The way that the electric trailer jack # UF38-944017 works is using an ACME screw and a nut. The nut is fixed and the screw goes up and down in the nut. At the end of the screw the metal is twisted, smashed, or otherwise purposely cross threaded to prevent the screw from just coming out and the load dropping. If you try to raise a jack with this type of design too far it damages that nut and the screw. Those parts cannot be replaced. You will need to replace the whole jack. This is...
