Video Transcript for Ultra-Fab Products Camper Jack - Landing Gear - UF17-943010 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Ultra-Fab Deluxe electric landing gear set. This is perfect for fifth-wheel and goose-neck trailers and RV's. It's going to feature dual-electric jacks that raise and lower with the flip of a switch, so no more hand-cranking. Each 12-volt DC motor has its own toggle switch, wiring and 30-amp fuse. This is the toggle switch. It has wiring already running to it. It's going to come with a rubber gasket for a nice tight seal at the mounting location.

Four mount holes here at the base, and then just an easy to use toggle switch with a weather-proof design. Also, plenty of wiring, and then again, each one is going to come with a 30-amp fuse that's in there. One of the neatest features about this unit is that the jacks operate independently for simple and accurate leveling. That's also going to help when hitching and unhitching. The jacks are going to feature a built-in clutch that's designed to prevent damage from over-extension and each jack is going to come with the extra-large foot plates that offer superior stability, which is going to help prevent sinking and tilting. A neat design of the foot plates is that they're going to be held in place here with a pin and clip. There's going to be four holes that go around there, so what that means is that that foot plate can be oriented however you want it at the bottom of the unit. Pretty simple installation.

You would need to weld the hangers to the front of the trailer frame beneath the overhang. It does come with four hangers, two per jack. The jack is going to feature stops on three sides of this tube, which is great. It's a great feature to have. Nice, secure design. On this side right here, we don't have any stops, but on this side you're going to have three stops.

On this side you're going to have three stops, and on this side you're going to have three stops. When using this, if you're doing a replacement, in the instructions are going to be the measurements that you need to determine whether your current hanger locations will match up with what this jack requires. If you're welding on your new hangers that come with this unit, you would want to use location A, which is this one, and location C, which is this one, or you could use location A and location B. You never want to use location B and C together. Always use A and B, or A and C.

You can find all that information in the included instructions, but you'd weld those hangers to the front of the trailer frame beneath the overhang, and then you would bolt the jacks to the hangers. It does come with your necessary hardware for that step. Then you'll need to mount your switches anywhere on the trailer for easy access. Mounting hardware to get your switches installed are not included, so that will need to be provided separately. The jacks themselves are made from a 9 steel construction with a protective finish. It's going to keep the unit safe from rust and corrosion, and it does feature grease zerk fittings which allow for easy maintenance. Right up here, on the head we're going to have a zerk fitting. Then you're going to have this band right here. This is just a nice, thick rubber band. Pull that down and it exposes a hole. Once you have the inner tube and the outer tube lined up correctly, that will actually expose another grease zerk fitting, which again simply allows for easy maintenance. When it comes to the bracket height, what that means is pretty much the overall height of the unit. It's about 36" when's it fully retracted, 74" when it's fully extended. The stroke of the motor is 21", and then you're going to have this drop plate right here with a pin and clip. That's going offer an additional 17" of travel, so the total lift for each jack is going to be 38" per jack. The rate of travel is about 15 seconds per inch. These are very heavy-duty. They're going to feature a combined weight capacity of 12,000 pounds, so 6000 pounds per jack. A few other things that I just want to mention real quick is, when it comes to the dimensions of the foot plate, it's going to measure 8" long by about 5 3/4" wide. The distance that I got when I measured from the top of the motor to the first weld point was about 8 1/2". The out tube's a square design that measures 2 1/2" by 2 1/2 inches. I also want to mention that an important note is that the landing gear is designed to stabilize a portion of your trailer's weight. It's not designed to support the full gross vehicle weight rating of your trailer. Be careful not to use the landing gear to lift your trailer or RV during tire changes or service, because doing so will actually exceed the capacity of the landing legs. That's going to do it for today's look at the Ultra-Fab Deluxe electric landing gear set with a combined capacity of 12,000 pounds.

I have a 2013 Heartland Toyhauler, weight about 12,000 pounds, we added large solar panels on the roof thus have a large battery bank running across the front, adding an extra weight at 800 pounds. The factory 6000 pound jacks where having a difficult time lifting the trailer off the hitch, straining. These new jacks motor on each leg, no problems lifting, there rated at twice the load rating at 12,000 pounds. We removed the front cover section on the front of the 5th wheel in order to gain access to the jack locations. The Jacks fitted right in where the old ones went. I made up a small box to mount the two switches, with an long cord, that connect and sits in the side lockable basement storage. So no outside switches, added security, there no way to move the jacks, unless you unlock the side basement compartment, plus i added a master shut off switch so there's is no accidental activations. I going to be building a custom enclosed trailer this year, and i be using these jack, for sure. 606226

The product arrived on time with great communication from etrailer. I chose the Ultra Fab over the Bulldog because of the 2000# higher load rating and the better reviews. My bracket spacing is 17 1/2 " so I knew I would have to modify the legs which I did. This was easier to do on my bench in my shop than weld the new brackets onto my trailer in the field. I have not installed them yet as my rv is broke down 500 mi from home. I'll go out to it next week with what I hope is a bolt on solution. The legs look heavy duty and bench tested well. 518790

Besides an easy install the best aspect of these jacks are the fact they have individual electric motors. You ask, so what, I'll tell you when it comes to parking on uneven ground these jacks have a proven benefit. One can run each jack to the needed to support position. You don't need a bunch of blocks to support the jack that needs to be lowered farther than the one already at ground level. 716208

I have a 48 foot camper and the legs folded. I went to etrailer.com and found the legs. I contacted etrailer.com and spoke with Matthew C. We both reviewed the product and agreed that they should work. This was a Wednesday and I told him that I needed to have them by Friday because I had sold the camper which was to be picked up on Saturday. Matt told me he would personally see to it that they got shipped that day. They arrived Friday as he assured me, I put them on Friday afternoon and the camper left Saturday morning. They fit perfectly. I recommend etrailer and Matthew to anyone. Their product was perfect and Matthew was exceptional in helping me with my needs. 118449

My ordered one day early which was very helpful because we are leaving on vacation in two days. The lifts bolted right in my Heartland Fifth wheel. However Inwas not very impressed with the switches. They are not very compatible for an exterior installation as they look bulky. I did replace the switchs. The operation of the landing gear is very smooth and fast. Overall I am very satisfied with the product and the service from etrailer. 421723

I completely removed the existing landing gear from my 2010 Trailblazer fifth wheel while still hooked up to my pick up truck. The landing gear completely failed while trying to hook up in Pacific City, Oregon. We had to buy two 2x4 s and c clamps from a local hardware store. We clamped across the two landing legs and using the truck jack managed to lift the trailer one block at a time to get the truck hooked up. I installed the new landing gear using the existing welded U brackets. They lift the trailer easily. I modified the existing switch hole in the trailer to accept the two switches adjacent to each other so I can hold both switches at the same time to lift and lower the trailer. I also had excellent service from E Trailer. 144792

Excellent. Much better product than the factory installed. It also allows me to locally level the front of the trailer if only a slight adjustment is required

WITH THE EXCEPTION OF HAVING TO GRIND OFF A PORTION OF THE LOWER MOUNT TAB , THE INSTALLATION WAS SIMPLE AND TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF. THESE WORK MUCH BETTER THAN MY ORIGINAL JACKS. THE RECOMMENDATION OF PURCHASING REPLACEMENT LEG LATCHES AT THE TIME OF ORDERING WOULD HAVE SAVED ME ADDITIONAL COST OF SEPARATE SHIPPING. 209748

The jacks arrived in three days with the free shipping option. That's great service. I just finished the install, and I am pleased with the jacks. The installation was fairly straightforward. The tabs on the jacks with the 13.5" spacing fit my existing brackets like a glove. That's one of the reasons I ordered these jacks. I've only used the jacks so far to pick the camper up off the jack stands I had it on while swapping the jacks, but they didn't seem to be straining in the least. My old Atwood single motor jack system struggled every time I used it. These are the only issues I had with my installation: 1. One of the grease zerks was broken out of the plastic motor housing when the jacks arrived. From reading other reviews, that appears to be a fairly common issue. I'll pick up a zerk with larger threads and take care of that. 2. Six of the eight wires were not long enough for me. It wasn't a big deal to pick up some wire and lengthen them, but if they had been 10 feet long instead of 7 feet long, the installation would have been a little easier. 3. When the jacks are fully retracted, the bottom tube (without the foot installed) is about 4-6 inches up inside the opening on the trailer. The jacks have 21 inches of stroke, so this shouldn't be a big deal. I'll just have 15-18 inches of stroke instead. I could remedy this by cutting the existing brackets off my trailer and welding on the provided brackets lower, but that is a lot of unnecessary work. All in all, this is a great product, and I look forward to using the jacks. The single motor Atwood jack that came on the trailer has been my greatest source of dissatisfaction since the day I bought the trailer. Thanks to Ultra-Fab and E-Trailer. 310498

One year later these jacks are still working great. Raising my fifth wheel is no longer a stressful event. The fifth wheel manufacturers would be smart to install these jacks on new units instead of the crappy one motor jack systems. Thanks again to Ultra-Fab and ETrailer!

I was sick and tired of hand jacking my 14000 pound trailer up off the truck so I decided to purchase these 5th wheel jacks. They work great! They mounted right up to my original jack mounts and with a little wiring were off and running! They arrived a day early and are plenty strong to lift even a very heavy trailer. Not sure how much tongue weight my trailer actually has but I'm happy with the power available with these jacks. I would definitely recommend these jacks to anyone looking for a strong reliable jacking system for their trailer. 518076

These landing gear were used to replace the originals in my 1996 Hitchhiker. Even when the rig was not loaded the original jacks would not raise the rig enough to back the truck into the hitch. It does seem strange to me though that a remote isn't part of the package. The wire work and switches installation was a chore. Some kind of an exterior switch box install kit would enhance the set to a great degree. Overall a very good product for the price. 296298

The landing gear jacks work perfectly. I still question why they do not come with either a wired or wireless remote. Such an item would have made a good product an excellent product.

These seemed to be very heavy duty and well made. They worked very well at raising and lowering the coach. But one time when I was pulling the truck out from under the fifth wheel, one of the drop channels was damaged. There was a slight bit of load still on the truck’s hitch, so it pulled the trailer ever so slightly against the jacks and actually tore the square channel metal. I’m disappointed the metal wasn’t tougher. I definitely couldn’t recommend these as “heavy duty” because of that. They’re still functional, but the damage is very visible. I would caution buyers that load be placed on these in the vertical direction ONLY. 711143

The 20-year old, obsolete 15-tooth Atwood landing gear failed repeatedly in the 2 years since I bought the 22 foot 5th wheel camping trailer. The trailer had been raised for clearance on the Forest Service roads and the original jacks were just barely adequate when new; it was time for an upgrade. Although the trailer is only a 6,000 pound unit, I decided on the 12,000 pound rated gear because of the rough ground we often camp on and the individual operation of the legs, which really aids leveling. The UltraFab jacks are quality gear, excellent construction, fit and finish, complete with grease zerks. The wiring harness is proper, heavy 10 AWG and the weatherproof switches are solid. I cut out the old brackets and followed the instructions to position the jacks for the welder; it took less than an hour for him to weld in the brackets (though space was limited on my small camper). The end result was just what I hoped for; strong, solid support and NO MORE CRANKING! 133333

I recieved the product one day earlier than expected, so was therefore was able to install the product sooner. The product was everything I expected it to be. The jacks that came from the factory had a 6,000 pound lifting capacity for the two. One electric motor and gear assembly was installed and burned out the motor after years of use. The coach weighs in at 13,000 pounds empty and the new jacks lift the front of the 5th wheel with no strain. I would recommend anyone with a 5th wheel that weighs more than 10,000 pounds replace the jacks with these. 146083

Item was easy to purchase, very quick to ship. The price came in $170 cheaper than what the dealership could buy it for. Even with expedited shipping, I save over $100 by ordering myself. I've only used them twice to move the trailer, but the motors seem powerful and the jacks are sturdy. They lift/lower the 5th wheel, which weighs in at 13,800 pounds unloaded much quicker than the insufficient single motor unit that came stock. So far, I am happy with them. The advertised speed is listed at 1 inch every 15 seconds and it looks like that is pretty close to what it is. Not as quick as the hydraulic system I wanted, but hydro systems are HARD to find and quite a bit more expensive. I do have some criticism though... the switches are HUGE and will not fit in the stock switch compartment. Also, the pins on the jack feet are not spring assisted. Neither of those is a huge deal, but the switches are unprotected on the outside of the unit. Make sure you install where they are fairly safe. The pins on the jack aren't difficult to operate manually, just not as convenient as the spring assisted. Other than that.... these jacks are worth buying. If I find, for some reason, after more use that they are not what they appear to be, I will update my review. As of now, I am happy with them. 216912

I replaced my Lippert single motor landing gear with the Ultra Fab UF17943010 Deluxe Landing Gear system with dual motors in my 40 Foot triple axle Toy Hauler, gross weight 18,000. The install on the passenger side was very fast, less than 1 hour. Since I have a generator installed on the driver side the install took longer as it required climbing over the generator in a tight working space. Installation of the Driver side landing gear took about 3 hours. I also installed the Atwood 3 switch system as I wanted to independently adjust each jack. These jacks worked great and it now possible to level the trailer side to side using the jacks in combination with 3 each of the Anderson # AM3604 Wheel Chock and Levelers. I recommendation this landing gear and just love working with etrailer. 375955

Do not buy this product!! There is a significant gap between the leg sections. You will have Alot of play (spaghetti legs) I spoke with randy from the factory and was told there was nothing they could (or would do). Beware 50964

Comments
Mark H.You bring up the gap between the tubes that make up the Landing Legs. We have changed to tubing with thicker sidewall for greater strength and for this reason there has to be a gap between the tubes in order for them to fit together. There is going to be some sway issues with all conventional landing legs. That is why there are so many products on the market designed to stabilize trailers. An Example of these are Tri Pods and Struts that mount direct to the landing legs are just some available.RandyCustomer Service Ultra-fab Products Inc

These jacks are fantastic. Install took about 4 hours, using the existing brackets. With a generator, you may need to move the generator, and generator housing, out of the way to make room for the new jack(s). Not a big deal. I just unbolted the gen, and slid it over. These jacks are powerful (real powerful). They are pretty fast, and lift my 12,700 lb. 40' Toy Hauler with easy. I like that they are independent too. So much better than the crappy Stromberg Carlson jacks that came with my trailer (underrated motor, weak gear box, just crap). If you are going to service you cheap Stromberg Carlson jacks, just Bite-the-Bullet, and get Ultra-Fab set (UF17-943010). My only complaint are the switches for each jack. The switch housing is pretty basic (thin plastic). It would be better if there was a thicker housing for both switches. other than that, there is nothing to complain about. I've just installed these jacks, but, so far, super impressed. All the reviews post one year state they are still working great, I expect the same! 578018

I replaced the malfunctioning jack tested it, everything working great. Fast forward a few months when I go to use trailer. Jack does nothing. Checked power switch everything in working order. Motor on jack just flat quit working. Called on warranty sure send it in no problem. Problem is cost more to send back then what I paid for it. So what's the point. So needless to say not happy with product or customer service. 605071

Upgraded my 2008 Weekend Warrior LED 3505 to the Ultra-Fab and couldn't be happier! The original Venture landing gear was complete garbage and has failed 3 times now. The Ultra Fab landing gear lifts much faster and sounds better. Another positive thing is the storage space I gained over the generator from removing original erector set. Ultra-Fab landing gear is much more robust compared to the original. I'm completely pleased with etrailer.com and their awesome service. I've talked a friend of mine into upgrading his garbage gear to the Ultra-Fab from etrailer. It was a bit of work to install, but my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. Thanks, etrailer! 511155

2009 Heartland Razor Toy hauler. OEM Junk never lifted will and usually had to be plugged in or have the Generator Running to lift the 16K Trailer ( around 6K tongue weight) Removed the old junk. Installed these. The Original Tabs were almost exact as these. Used a little weld to secure things up. They lift the trailer without any difficulty. I wished I'd not waited until my old ones completely failed to replace them. These make camping worry free. They even work well without being plugged up to shore line. 241707

Received items earlier than scheduled. Pretty easy to install. Went with RV switches instead. Sounds good and they move up and down with ease. Will do a update later for long term results. Believe it's a great investment. It's on a 2018 toy hauler 40ft. Factory legs barely worked it kept slipping going up .F.Y.I . they say the back up way is to remove motor on top to manually operate it. 637490

I purchased this product to replace the landing gear that had failed on my 5th wheel. I called around to a few other dealers and they were not very helpful. Ricky S. at e trailer was able to give me the product specs. that I needed and took my order that day. My product arrived one day earlier than expected. I installed the new landing gear myself and I must say that if you are a mechanical novice don't attempt yourself. This of course depends on your coach design. Mine is a toy hauler and the passenger side jack is right next to the generator. It was a challenge to get the old jack out and the new one end. However with that being said the new landing gear works as advertised and I am happy that I used e trailer to make these needed repairs. 183079

  • How to Pick Out Landing Gear Jacks for Trailer
In order to pick out a direct replacement for the landing gear on your trailer we would need to know the distance between the mounting brackets. Otherwise you could just have the brackets removed from your trailer by a qualified welder and then install the brackets that come with the Bulldog Tandem Landing Gear Set # BD500162. Either way this landing gear set would work well for you, you just might have to have the brackets of your trailer removed and then install the brackets of the #...

  • Recommended Electric Gear Landing Set for a 2007 Victory Lane 36 SRV
The strongest landing gear set that we currently offer is the Ultra-Fab Electric Landing Gear Set # UF17-943010 which is rated for 12,000 lbs. Keep in mind that these are used to support only a portion of your trailer's weight, not the full GVWR of your trailer. • Replacement Electric Landing Gear Recommendation for a 2006 Keystone Raptor
You most likely have Lippert 6k landing gear like the powered set part # LC333964 that is also 6k rated. Landing gear is rated for lifting capacity and not for overall trailer capacity. So the landing gear on your trailer could very easily be rated at 6k since most of the weight of the trailer will be over the wheels and not the jack. If you want a higher rated option, you can use the Reese Electric 5th Wheel Landing Gear Set # RP500708 or the Ultra-Fab # UF17-943010.

  • Recommended Dual-Motor Landing Gear
When installing a dual motor landing gear, the follower leg no longer exists because each side leg has a motor attached and adjusted individually. This system has a lift capacity of 12,000 lbs with a 38 inch lift. each motor has its own toggle switch to make leveling the trailer that much easier. • Replacement 5th Wheel Landing Gear for 2006 Weekend Warrior 35-Foot 5th Wheel
When it comes to jacks, winches or landing gear we suggest choosing a product with more lifting capacity than you need. In the case of 5th wheel landing gear the extra capacity means the jacks will have to work less hard to do their lifting and may have a longer working lifespan as a result of not being operated near their limit. The Ultra-Fab landing gear you referenced, part # UF17-943010, have a high 12K lift rating, a 38-inch lift height and a travel rate of 15 seconds per inch....

You mentioned that you've already replaced the motor and switch, # # LC217884, and the gear box # LG-179015. Since you've already replaced these components, it sounds like your landing gear is not getting enough power for the system to work. Most of the landing gear sets will use the same bracket height dimensions for the install of a new landing gear set. If the brackets don't line up perfectly the weld stops on your trailer could easily be moved by a qualified welder.

  • Electric Trailer Jack Recommendation for Gooseneck Horse Trailer with Full Living Quarters
In order to equip your horse trailer with a powered jack, I would start off by determining if you can add a powered kit to your current landing gear. These kits, like the Bulldog Powered-Drive Kit, # BD1824200100, are brand and model/capacity specific so I would need to know what landing gear is currently on your trailer in order to see if we have a kit available. Provided the frame has steel vertical frame members, most likely it does and that is where the old landing gear is attached, you will attach Ultra-Fab landing gear # UF17-943010 in the same places.
