Stromberg Carlson Camper Jack - LG-3

Electric, fifth-wheel landing gear set's motor has an IP-rated switch for fast, easy, and safe operation. Each leg is 29-1/2" tall, offers 19-7/8" of travel, and has a 15" drop leg for extra lift. Combined weight capacity is 6.5K.

Features:

  • Perfect for raising, leveling, and supporting your 5th-wheel trailer or RV
  • Electric-powered adjustment for easy operation
  • Direct drive reduces strain on your jack and allows landing gear to lift with ease
    • No clutch that could slip
  • Single-speed motor won't trip circuits or cause problems with coach's electrical systems
    • IP-rated switch will not spark, so it can be mounted safely in bottle-gas area
  • Drop legs minimize jacking time and help to level the trailer on uneven ground
    • Legs adjust in 1" increments
  • Cage pins included to release drop legs
    • Upgrade to spring-loaded pull pins (LG-119113 - sold separately) for simpler drop leg release
  • Hand crank included for manual operation
  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Gearbox is housed in a corrosion-resistant aluminum body
  • Landing gear welds onto trailer frame
  • Set includes 2 jacks, gearbox, motor, switch, footplates, cross shaft, hand crank, and hardware
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Leg length: 29-1/2"
  • Total lift: 34-7/8"
    • Travel: 19-7/8"
    • Drop leg: 15"
  • Rate of travel: 5-1/2" per minute
  • Combined weight capacity: 6,500 lbs
  • Cross shaft length: 41" - 71"
  • Footplate dimensions: 8" long x 5" wide x 2" tall
  • Outer tube width: 2-1/2"
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: Landing gear is designed to stabilize a portion of your trailer's weight, not to support the full GVWR of your trailer. Do not use landing gear to lift your trailer or RV during tire changes or service work because doing so will exceed the capacity of the landing legs.

Stromberg Carlson's landing gear was designed with safety in mind. The motor, manufactured by Lippert, won't trip circuits or cause problems with the coach's electrical systems. In addition, the IP-rated switch will not spark, so it can be mounted safely in the bottle-gas area.

Convenience is also a hallmark of this product. An inner drop leg on each jack makes leveling easy by allowing the jack feet to reach the ground quickly and at varying heights, saving time and thus reducing the draw on the trailer's battery. The cage pins that secure the drop legs can be replaced with spring-loaded pull pins (LG-119113 - sold separately) that allow for single-handed operation. Large, rectangular, pivoting footpads are included, but you can use larger, 9-inch-diameter pads (LG-210475 - sold separately) instead if you often camp on soft ground.

This system and its parts were designed to be compatible with most of the other fifth-wheel landing gear on the market, including Atwood and Lippert. If you're replacing your old landing gear, you can install this set from Stromberg Carlson using your existing mounting hardware.

Let me start by saying this review is about the product, not e-trailer. etrailer is great. I love doing business with them. Their prices beat anybody, and the free and FAST shipping is a bonus. Now to the review of the LG-3 landing gear. The pros of this product are they are a direct replacement for the Lippert system on my trailer. No cutting, drilling or welding. They fit in the original brackets. I installed them while camping in about 2 hours with simple hand tools. The cons are they are a direct replacement for the Lippert system on my trailer. They use the same weak motor, that struggles to lift my trailer. The kit was missing bolts and pins and I had to use my old hardware until I could get back to town to buy new hardware. I wanted to go with the Bulldog 10K system, but wanted something that work with my Lippert remote system. The original system failed. I suspect this one will too. Next time I will go with something heavy enough to do the job. Check out the before and after pics and the pic of what can happen when your jacks fail and you have to resort to using hydraulic jacks to lift your trailer. A $4000.00 repair that could have been much worse. 434393

So far these are working. I got the higher torque model, which operates at a lower speed. I dont necessarily like the slower speed, but hey, at least they go up and down and the trailer hasnt fallen on my truck again. I am still disappointed that this landing gear is supplied by the manufacturer. It is woefully inadequate. As a side note, it is impossible to raise these legs with the coat hanger they give you for a hand-crank. This thing is ridiculous. That is why I keep a set of bottle jacks on-hand just in case of emergencies, and hope I never have to use them again.

Thanks so much for the follow up. If you do need to use your bottle jacks in an emergency situation, we do recommend to chock your trailer wheels and minimize all trailer movement as much as possible since bottle jacks are less stable than your primary landing gear.

We installed the landing gear for our Montana.... it was a perfect fit. We highly recommend you. Thank you 419508

The LG3 system was a direct replacement for my original Atwood system.spacing was correct but I needed to grind about .020 off the top of the existing bracket. The jacks then bolted in perfectly. However the wiring diagram is incorrect for the leads to the motor from the switch. Just reverse the polarity by switching the wires. The instructions are vague. 553736

This unit was installed to replace the identical unit that failed. It operates very smooth and does the job. The failed unit was completely dry of lubrication on the jack screw that is attached to the tube that telescopes up and down. Venture Manufacturing now lubricates these and suggests periodic lubrication. 552279

Perfect replacement for my factory original. Reused my original welded brackets, so less than 3 hours to complete, by myself. Hard to find detail, but the length to order is the length of outer black tube. 488213

Received product as promised and in good condition. Installed it yesterday without too much fan fair. Working on any RV is always is treat. The only thing that didn't seem to fit was the cross rod, it was too short to go across our 5th wheel and ours isn't an over wide one. Just used the old rod and so far everything works fine. I didn't measure the width when we were ordered I concentrated on the length of the main tubes. All is good 451549

etrailer was extremely helpful finding a replacement for my RV 5th wheel landing gear. I have a '08 Cardinal 3100RK and the RF landing gear failed. The LG-3 was a drop-in replacement so I did not have to use the weld-on frame brackets that come with the package. I had to do a little grinding on the "follow" leg but otherwise it was a simple installation. 424558

Happy with the product so far. It was easy to install, the harness was complete for the motor. The only issue I had was the switch plate got cracked during shipping and the switch operated backwards from the label, but just have to switch wires around to motor to correct. Will see how reliable the motor is because the trailer gets used a lot. 424518

I have a 2008 Keystone Montana Mountaineer 345DBQ. My Lippert Landing gear had broken with age and wear causing my truck and fifth wheel had become one. I was desperate to get the landing gear fixed for a trip in 6 days. Sandy J assisted me on the phone on a SUNDAY afternoon and was able to have the parts on my doorstep by noon on the following Thursday. The installation took me less than two hours and the landing gear works perfectly. It is quiet and operates very smoothly. I recommend etrailer to my family and RVing friends. They saved my vacation! 400919

I replaced both landing gear, motor and gear box on my fifth wheel. I was able to install all of it within a few hours with very little assistance. Mandy was very helpful from choosing the right set to keeping me informed on the shipment. I will definitely purchase all my trailer parts from etrailer in the future. 280340

Do you have a question about this Camper Jack?

  • Replacement Landing Gear for 2009 Keystone Challenger
  • We do not have any type of database with a list that has the parts for each year, make and model of trailer so you will need to do some measuring to figure out what will fit on your 2009 Keystone Challenger. Measure your landing gear brackets from outside to outside like in the accompanying photo and if they have standard weld stop measurements of 17-1/2 inches outside to outside and 15-1/2 inches inside to inside I recommend checking out the Electric Landing Gear Set # LG-3.

  • Replacement Landing Gear for Old Lippert Landing Gear System on a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • It is probably the lack of use that is the most damaging to something like electric landing gear on a 5th wheel trailer. Things could seize up or corrode when not in use. You would probably be able to identify problems sooner as well. But either way it is sounding like replacing the landing gear is the way to go for your trailer. If you are able to have a system with motors mounted on the top then I recommend the Ultra-Fab system # UF17-943010. This is a dual motor set up rated for...

Either of these will fit the current brackets you have on your RV. One other thing you might want to note is that part # LG-3 has a total lift of 34-7/8 inches with travel...

  • Will Lippert Universal Landing Gear Fit in Place of a System with No Name
  • Most landing gear sets fit on the trailer the same way so it is very likely that the Lippert Universal kit # LC333966 will fit your trailer. But regarding if the motor you have will work or not I cannot say without knowing the manufacturer or model. For a little bit more you could get a system that comes with a motor, # LG-1, which is rated for 5,500 pounds. The next size up, # LG-3, is rated for 6,500 pounds.

  • Troubleshooting Landing Gear That Stopped Moving
  • If your landing gear is motorized, the motor works fine and the gear looks good you will want to test the switch; use a 12V battery to get power to the wire that signals the gear to extend. If it does extend with the 12V battery, the issue is the switch and the replacement you'd need is # LG-145236. However, if you have tried to manually operate the landing gear and cannot move it at all, then the unit would need to be replaced. For that you can use the Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing...

  • Replacement Landing Gear for 2011 Heartland Big Country 5th Wheel Trailer
  • If your landing gear is electric then it could just be a switch or the battery could be bad. Having the battery tested will determine if it is the problem. You can determine if the switch is the problem by applying power directly to the motor; if it works fine then it is likely a problem with the switch. A battery or switch replacement is a lot easier and less expensive than a whole new landing gear system! But if it turns out that it is neither a switch nor the battery then I agree...

  • Trailer makers rarely keep records of smaller items like the landing gear and stabilizers they install on their trailers but if you can confirm the landing gear is from Stromberg Carlson and is either their model # LG-1 or model # LG-183708 then kit # LG-146060 is the correct part. Both the powered # LG-1 and the manual # LG-183708 provide the same 34-7/8-inches of lift. You can compare your follow leg dimensions to confirm compatibility.
