Video Transcript for Stromberg Carlson Camper Jack - A-Frame Jack - JET-2500 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Stromberg Carlson Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack, with an 18 inch lift, and a 2500 pound weight capacity. This power jack will eliminate the need for hand cranking, making jacking up your trailer an easier task.It does have the water resistant switches right up front here, provide easy operation. It does have also an LED light right here, which will illuminate the area for a nice simple nighttime setup. On the very top right here, there's a built in level and this will let you easily see if your trailer's level. It does use rust resistant powder coated steel parts, which are strong and durable. The jack cover itself is made of a vacuum formed plastic, for extra protection from severe weather. The attached clutch on the inside gives override protection, which will protect your gears and your motors.

It does also come with this emergency handle right here, which will allow you to manually operate the jack if needed. Basically, it just inserts into the head right here where the level is on this cap, if you just twist it the cap will come off, and then you can take your emergency handle, drop it right in there, line it up with the, and then you can just crank it to raise it or lower it, whichever you prefer manually. And then you just put your cap right back on.This does easily bolt onto your trailers A-frame. The hardware's included to install it. It does ground through the mounting bolts.

Now the black wire, this will attach to your 12-volt power source, and it does include an inline fuse holder with a fuse for protection. The footplate on it, right at the bottom here, it's a zinc plated removable steel footplate. Basically if you just unsnap the snap or pull the pin out, you can take the footplate off if you prefer.A few specs on this, the bracket height, now the bracket height is going to be measured from the footplate up to the bottom of the bracket, so it's all in the fully retracted position right now. So if we pull out our tape measure, we go bottom to the bottom of the footplate is 9 inches retracted. This does have an 18 inch lift, so if we fully extend this jack it would be 27 inches extended. As we mentioned, the lift is 18 inches. Lift capacity is 2500 pounds.

Outer tube on this jack is 2 inches in diameter. The inner tube is 1-3/4 inches. The footplate we had mentioned, that's going to a diameter of 4-1/4 inches. The motor on this jack will draw 24-25 amps under load. The power wire right here, this black power wire we mentioned, it's going to be a total of 6 foot long, and it is a 10 gauge size wire.So what I'm going to try to do now, is we're going to hook this up to some 12 volt power, just to show you the light and how the motor operates. So we'll go ahead and pull up our 12 volt source here, make sure it's on, and we'll go ahead and take our ground.

What I'm going to do, is take our power wire and we'll go ahead and hook that up to the power wire, swing this back. There's our power wire, and our ground, like I had mentioned, is grounded through this footplate. So this is painted, but I'm still going to see if we can get a good ground through the footplate.See if the light will come on, we'll go ahead and yeah there we go. You can see, getting a decent ground even though it's painted right there. So you've got your light that'll, LED light, that'll light up down when you're hooking up, and it is just an on and off switch. And then our motor over here, is a toggle switch, the switch for your jack motor. In other words, if we push it that way you can see it's extended it, and if you let off of it it'll shut it off. If you hold it on and let if off. And then to retract it, just push down on it and it'll retract. And again, it has an override so when it gets all the way it will automatically shut off so you don't ruin your gears or your motor. I'm just going to detach it.But that should do it, for the review on the Stromberg Carlson Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack with an 18 inch lift, and a 2500 pound weight capacity.

Jack works really well doesn’t have a huge amp draw so the battery doesn’t take a big hit if you have to move it up-and-down installation was easy the light for the hitch is nice but it just doesn’t put out much light at all that could use a little boost from a really good LED bulb I would buy it again if I needed it. I just installed my new JET-2500 trailer tongue jack in less than 15 minutes. The light and extend/retract work great. I was not sure if an adjustable drop foot is available for more length but do not think it is needed. This is second purchase, first being Equalizer hitch system which is also even better with electric jack. Etrailer exceeds customer expectations by follow up email and definite concern to keep their customers satisfied. Great Company! Thank-You Ron Williams 384116

I have a buddy that recommended an electric jack for my new trailer He was right, made the hookup so much easier. The price was half of the one from my dealer. And the response for my order was unbelievable, I ordered the jack on Wed evening about 6 o'clock and got it the next day before 4 PM. 92270

Love the jack, hate to think what I would have to do without it. Im getting older and the thought of cranking the front of my trailer up or down makes me cringe. Thanks again Rusty

Now that it is installed and tested, I love this product. It was very easy to install and works as advertised. The only reason I don't give it an excellent rating is because several screws on the case were obviously (visually) not tight when I opened the box. Not sure if this is an anomaly but their quality control definitely should have caught it. 181978

I purchased this product for a completely off the wall reason, i try to make or modify differant things to fit the need at the time. this jack was used as a lifting device, for a power chair carrier. This use may be a little unusual but my grandfather was a blacksmith, and he taught me to build things to work as needed not to spend a lot of money to get what everyone else says is best. I shopped around for a power lift, and did not care fot the materials or the designs on most, and did not like the price of the really well built models. Your jack is rated heavy enough and is working fine for this purpose, with minor mounting modifacations, as of this time I am trying to redesign a manual cherry-picker and could possibly use another one of your products on that project. Your web site made it easy to find what I needed and the quality seems to be very good, also thank you for the quick delivery time. 82657

I love it. Good product and is what I wanted, The only thing I feel is wrong is I expected the on off switch to fully shut off the power to the jack functions and not just the lite. 287512

Not as good as I had hoped. Jack motor is very slow and seems weak. The twist off cap on the top loses it's o-ring each time I take the cap off to manually wind the jack. 203336

Installation of the the Jet-2500 trailer tongue jack went smoothly. Quality looks good and instructions very straightforward. I hooked up the trailer to my Ford F-150 to find out I can't open the tailgate while hooked up to the truck. I removed the three mounting bolts and tried to turn the jack 90 degrees but the bolt holes don't align now. So I put it back where it belongs and will just have to work around not being able to lower my tail gate while the trailer is hooked up....... 92758

This jack works fine with my Safari Condo Alto F1743 trailer, which only weighs 2,300 lbs loaded. An electric tongue jack is a wonderful convenience to have. And I really like the built-in bubble level, it’s very handy to have and is all I need to ensure that the trailer is level in both directions. I have had no problems with it except one odd thing: a few months ago as I was about to prepare to level the trailer at my campsite, I looked at the bubble level and...there was no bubble. I called my spouse over and she couldn’t see it either. The trailer was already fairly level; the bubble should be visible. I jiggled the head of the jack, but could not make it appear. I assumed that the fluid had leaked out of the level, so I went online and ordered a replacement level from e.trailer.com, $16, Item # 2500-3755E, “Replacement Manual Override Cover with Level ”. No big deal. I was back home in a day or two, parked my trailer in my driveway and forgot about it until the replacement part arrived several days later. I went out to the trailer and went to remove the “override cover” on my jack and...there was the bubble, plain as day. I called my spouse out to see it; we were both so surprised! There did not appear to be anything wrong with it. So I did not replace it. We still can’t figure out how/why the bubble disappeared and then came back. My spouse noted that the day it disappeared it was a “super hot day” but we can’t recall what the air temp was, and I don’t remember it being particularly hot. The trailer was in full sun, which it normally is at our house, near San Francisco, but we don’t now recall where we were camping in California. Regardless, I highly recommend this tongue jack if you have a small lightweight trailer. Of course Stromberg makes more powerful units for bigger trailers. 671463

  • How to Determine Correct Electric A-Frame Jack for Travel Trailer
The correct jack will have a capacity that will surpass your trailer's loaded tongue weight, which is typically between 10 and 15 percent of the loaded trailer's weight. I looked up your 2013 Jayco Jay Feather Ultra Lite Travel Trailer and from my research it looks like your Jayco has a 4,750 lb GVWR so any one of our A-frame jacks would work in terms of weight capacity. The Electric Jack w/ Footplate # EJ-3520-WBX could be a great option; it has a 3,500 lb lift capacity, an extended...

If you need to replace this fuse then you can use part # UF17-101066 on our site. Another possibility is that the power wire to your battery is damaged or the battery itself is drained. Both of those options would be worth looking into as well. To raise the tongue of your trailer (lower the jack leg) you need to turn the handle clockwise. If you are...

In order to choose the correct jack for your trailer, you must first determine what type of jack you will need. You can choose from either an a-frame jack or side mount jack. Once the correct type of jack is selected, you can then begin to narrow your search down based upon weight restrictions. The trailer jack needs to be capable of lifting the tongue weight of a trailer, rather than the total weight of the trailer. The tongue weight of a trailer is typically 10-15% of the total trailer...

The 2500 lbs reference on the Stromberg-Carlson electric A-Frame Tongue Jack # JET-2500 is the tongue weight of your trailer. As long as your trailer's tongue weight is less than 2500 lbs, then this jack will work well. The 2500 figure is the maximum amount of weight the jack will lift. Since the jack is on the trailer tongue, the jack will not lift the entire weight of the trailer, just the tongue weight. Tongue weight is the downward pressure that the coupler places on the hitch...

My manufacturer contact advised that the four screws you have removed are the only fasteners holding the outer jack cover in place. However, I completely understand your concern about applying too much force on the plastic cover. My contact suggested gently applying a flat blade screwdriver blade around the cover's edges to find the spot that most wants to "give" a little. This point would then be your best spot to carefully apply a bit more force to get the cover loose.

Many of the jacks branded Ultra-Tow resemble the units made by Stromberg-Carlson and others, and it is indeed possible that they or another firm like Fulton or Atwood manufactured these for Northern Tools. For example, the...
