Video Transcript for Lippert Travel Trailer JT's Strong Arm Jack Stabilizer Kit Review

Randy: Hey, guys. It's Randy here at etrailer again. Today we're taking a look at a really popular product. We get a lot of questions about it. People are interested in stabilizing their RVs, and this is one thing that really makes that a very, very easy task to do.This is the JT Strong Arm system. Now, while your standard scissor style high-speed stabilizer jacks, they're going to give you a good amount of stabilization, the JT Strong Arm is going to take that much further, and almost eliminate any movement at all that you feel in your trailer. Now, that excess movement can kind of be a pain, especially if you've got some people out sitting around the fire, you've got some people in sleeping, and then those people try to come in.

Once that trailer starts moving, and starts oscillating, it's just uncomfortable. Also, just through day-to-day, as you're walking in and out through it, you don't want your stuff shifting back and forth. Now, here's one of the six stabilizer arm kits that you're going to have in your package. Basically, on this end, we're going to have two different ways of connecting it to our trailer, and the good news is, all the hardware is included to do this installation. So, you're not going to be running out to the hardware store. We'll have this type bracket for some of our frames, and then if we can access it, we're also going to have the stiffening plate that we can use in lieu of this.

So, making sure that it's going to work for the C, the I, and the H-beam trailers without any issue. On the other end, we've got our long bolt here. Now this, this is our front left stabilizer jack, so that bolt here replaces our bolt right here. That keeps the movement side to side down. The other one for the front stabilizer's going to replace our other bolt, and it runs rearward, so then we don't have to worry about that front and back movement. For the rear, we're going to have one for each side, and it installs side to side. Now, with the telescoping design, something I really like and something you'll appreciate, is that we don't have to put these on and take these off each and every time like we do with a lot of the other stabilizing systems that are out there.

They're going to telescope fully, so as we retract our landing gear, they're going to retract into their stored position. Once it gets in its stored position, we're just going to tighten that T-bolt down, keep it from moving around.Once we're ready to deploy our landing gear, we'll back that T-bolt out, and as our stabilizer comes down, it's going to automatically extend to the length that we need. Once it gets to that point, just want to reach under there, lock down that T-bolt, it's going to keep everything from moving around. That's where we get all that stabilization property. Now, there is also a tool available for this if you don't want to reach down there and turn it.

You can stand up, bend over slightly, reach underneath there with the tool and get it secured as well. The system's going to gain its benefit with the triangulation that we're creating. Let's take a look at it installed on the front of the fifth wheel here, for example. As you can see, the two that run side to side here on the front keep that landing gear from moving anywhere at all. Then you'll see the two that head from there, and then they head backwards. That keeps that forward and back movement absolutely isolated, and we shouldn't have any issues with it being felt through our camper. Now, to ensure that you get the right Strong Arm system that's going to work for your application, there are three different part numbers. The first is going to be strictly for travel trailers. The second's going to be for fifth wheel campers, where the landing gear from inside edge to inside edge is less than 58". The third is going to be for fifth wheel campers where the inside of landing gear to inside of landing gear is 58" or greater. The Strong Arm kit also gets really good reviews from customers that have a lot of experience with them. It's like Aaron said, "I have had the JT Strong Arm stabilizers on my fifth wheel for a year now, and they really make a difference. No more movement felt while walking across the camper or when the kids are wrestling around in the front bunk house." A year after that, he said, "They're still working great and looking good."Now, when we compare the JT Strong Arm stabilization kit to other stabilizers out there, I think this really does give us just about as much stabilization as is possible. Of course, when you compare them to just regular scissor stabilizers, there's a huge difference. And you're even going to see a big difference when comparing these to the chock style or the expanding style. Some of our expanding styles, like the Ultra-Fab Chock-N-Lock, those are only going to work with the tandem trailer, where our JT Strong Arm doesn't care how many axles are involved.

The JT Strongarms have nice thick finish to guard against rust, the install was easy and our 30' fifth wheel is really stable now, feels solid. Worth every penny. 610966

Product works well and really solidifies the RV. Prior to installation just walking around would make a clothes hangers swing enough to rattle. After installation the same hangers barely even tremble. The installation instructions were confusing and not well written (reduction of 1 star). I watched a YouTube video of install and used mechanical common sense to complete my own install. Total time took less than 2 hours and was generally easy. etrailer shipped quickly and price matched. 385224

The JT Strong Arm kit is a well designed package for installing stabilizers on the front jacks of a 5th wheel. You will need additional hardware and probably need to fabricate an additional cross brace to install the stabilizers on the rear jacks. Installing just the front stabilizers makes a huge improvement in trailer movement making me wonder why the hardware for the rear is not sold as a separate kit which would reduce the price. The installation instructions provided with the package are poorly organized and written and make installation appear more difficult than it really is. On-line videos and other information are more helpful than the instructions with the kit. The kit was supposed to include 3/8"-16 flanged self tapping bolts incorporating cutting grooves. The actual bolts provided were plain bolts without cutting grooves. So after drilling the 5/16" tap drill size for 3/8"-16 bolts in the longitudinal I-beam I attempted to tap the holes. Unfortunately the starter tap broke in torsion on the first hole. Fortunately on my trailer there was access (very limited) to above the I-beam flange so I drilled 3/8" holes and used nuts instead of tapping the I-beam flange. If you choose this approach shift the spacer mount position outward away from the I-beam vertical member by the spacer mount material thickness so the nut does not bear on the corner radius. If you must tap the I-beam flange because there is no access above the flange to install a nut, consider increasing the hole size to be tapped by 1/64 (21/64) understanding this will slightly reduce the thread load capacity. But these threads are not highly loaded. Something to be careful of is the location of the gas line under the trailer. Whatever installation method is used be sure there will be adequate clearance for the stabilizer bar to the gas line when in the fully up position. Overall a very good kit that I would purchase again. You could fabricate the same kit yourself but the end result would probably not be as well constructed unless you have a machine shop. 438529

I'm kind of torn on my star rating. As far as the product goes... yeah 4-star no question. But the instructions and information required to do the job is a 1 or 2.. I'll explain. First, the good: The product functions as advertised. It really lessens the trailer shaking considerably. You really have to try to make it shake now where before just walking around made the blind hit the windows. The hardware is very nice quality. The bad: The instructions . They are very wordy and can be confusing if you're not on your game. There should be a lot more pictures. There should be more explaining the adaptation to hydraulic foot pads I knew I needed to buy the Hydraulic pad adapters but it was not clear when I bought them that I needed 4 and not 2, and in addition to that I needed to buy more swing bolts. I was not very happy about that. So if you have electric gear you'll probably have everything you need If you have hydraulic gear be prepared to spend about another $100 for additional hardware, have extra unused hardware from the original kit contents and searching for how these thing should look when finished. 479139

Both my brother and my dad put these on their 5th wheel campers, with good reason! My 2012 Crossroads RV was a bit shakier than my last 5th wheel, so ordered the JT strongarms from etrailer, they matched and beat a competitor's price by 10% with a simple email and link to the competitor's website, Judy is fantastic with getting that done. My dad and I installed the arms in the campsite while setup, he had already done one of these so he knew what to do, the instructions are extremely wordy and not many pictures so it could have been a little tough to follow if he hadn't already known what he was doing. Then install took maybe 2 hours, and the trailer is now solid when the arms are locked down. Everything in the box was wrapped so there was no scratching on the arms, etc. There are stickers with the arms to remind you to loosen up the T-handles before raising/lowering the trailer... great idea because I would have completely forgotten when packing up (my dad actually beat me to it and loosened them off before I even realized). Probably one of the best upgrades you can do to your camper to eliminate all the chassis movement. 288788

When I ordered my stabilizer bars they were back ordered. George J. (Customer service rep.) Told me that as soon as they receive them from the manufacturer I would be contacted, and they would keep me posted as to when I would receive them. Everything they told me happened just as they said. I received them in a timely manner. I'm VERY happy with their service and communication. Thanks for having helpful people that are willing to go that extra mile. 432813

Product works extremely well. I was a little sceptical but after reading many positive reviews I decided to try it. What a difference. I was originally gonna plan on making my own set but why, the engineering was already done and just parting out the amount of hardware in the kit would have been a nightmare. Great product, sturdy construction. I'm happy. No more shaken trailer syndrome. 264453

Installed the front stabilizers on my 35’ cougar 5er in around 2 hours. The style of our rear electric jack and being insulated requires I add a 3x3 crossmember to anchor to. A job for a latter date. Just adding the front stabilizers is an improvement over the tripod we were using . One less thing to carry and store. The installation manual was designed for several different types landing gear which made it a bit confusing. Used Lippert”s installation video. 559548

Great product. Really helped to stabilize my fifth wheel toy hauler. Very little movement when moving around inside the unit. Much more solid. Installation took about 2-2.5 hrs for both front and back landing. Instructions a little confusing at first but when you figure them out it's real easy. Very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a more solid feel to their RV when set up. 663693

Strong arm stabilizers are best invention. I have a 37 foot Voltage and these help take all the motion out of the trailer when moving around in it. I would highly recommend. 662750

Great product! These stabilizers worked great, somewhat easy install. Hardest part is finding the right place to secure the mounting brackets in the front. They make all the difference when you have them tight; then the movement of the 5th wheel is gone. Matt 609666

I had to replace entire unit due to my error of raising jack too far. My issues with the JTs is this. Should have RED line to mark the don’t raise higher than point. Also if you damage one you have to buy a set as don’t sell separate. That’s jacked. 577752

Review from a similar Lippert Components JT Strong Arm in Camper Jack

Every time we camped the Jayco T30F toy hauler seemed to move or sway when walking around in it. Laying in bed the dogs would get a drink and they would layi down which made the trailer feel like it moving or swaying. It felt like I was motion sickness from moving. I ordered the StrongArms after that camping trip. I installed the Strong Arms just before the camp out the following week. It was great no movement. Rock solid like having a foundation under the camper. What a night and day difference. I will install them on any future camper. We like to show off how stable the camper. A must for all campers! 635011

Review from a similar Lippert Components JT Strong Arm in Camper Jack

The JT strongarm kit is great! Install took only about two hours from start to finish. The end product does what it says it will, I tried to shake the trailer from the outside and inside and it stood still. The only issue I had was the rear arms would hit the scissor jack on retraction, it was a easy fix I just spaced the eye bolt in the jack out about 3/8 " and it clears fine now. I wish I would have installed these years ago. I am a very satisfied customer and etrailer is great with shipping times too. 512860

Review from a similar Lippert Components JT Strong Arm in Camper Jack

Absolutely love the JT Strong Arms. I get asked about them all the time on our 2016 Jayco 267BHSW. I give them a quick demo with the t-handles loose and with them tightened, virtually no shaking at all any more. The only movement I have is still in the axles/suspension, I can eliminate that further with jacks in front/behind of the wheels, but I'm ok with that little movement for now. 293862

After 1 year the JTs are working great, I get asked about them a lot. Besides the slight bounce in the leaf springs of the camper when the JTs are locked in, the JTs do their job and do it well!

These do a great job of taking the majority of the "wobble" out of the chassis when setup but they don't take all of it away. They are a big improvement over just having the stabilizers. Installation wasn't as easy I would like. I had to fabricate some cross supports and I went through a few drill bits making it all happen but it's in there for good at this point. 568690
