Video Transcript for Bulldog Camper Jack - Landing Gear - BD500162 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Bulldog Tandem Landing Gear set. Now, this landing gear set is designed for use with your 5th wheel trailer or RV. It's going to feature these large, self-leveling footplates that provide excellent stability. Those are going to measure 8 inches long by 6 inches wide and they really help spread out the applied weight, especially on softer surfaces, to help prevent sinking. The self-leveling design means that it's able to tilt a little bit once it hits the ground. That's a really great feature of the unit.

The unit's also going to feature these drop legs, so you're going to have your outer tube, your inner tube and a drop leg. Drop legs increase overall extension for maximum adjustability, and to use those drop legs, this unit features the spring loaded pull pin for quick and easy operation of the drop leg. It's also going to come with your connecting rod. This connects to the jacks, hardware to get that connected is included. This connecting rod telescopes to the desired length, so it extends all the way out from about 36 inches to 70 inches or so, right in that area. This telescopes to the desired length to fit your application so that way, positioning the jacks shouldn't be a problem.

You can position them as far apart as you need to and still be able to connect them for tandem operations. The unit's made from a sturdy steel construction, nice durable design. We're looking at a black finished outer tube and zinc plated inner tubes that are design to resist rust and corrosion. It's going to come with 4, brand-new weld on mounting brackets. These weld directly to the front of the trailer frame. These are included as well as the hardware to get the jacks attached to them.

On each side of the jack you're going to have the welded on brackets that are like those stop brackets for those plates. All that's included and again, the jack bolts to the brackets with the included hardware. It does require a hand-crank to operate. This is manual operation. It's not electric.

Your hand-crank is sold separately, so that's not included. Again, the cross-shaft length, 36 inches to 70 inches. When it comes to the bracket height, simply what we're doing is we're measuring the overall length, so if I do that real quick, for this jack over here, not including the gearing, we can see that's going to be around 32 inches with it retracted. With it all the way extended, that increases to about 50 inches. The unit gives us a total travel of 36 inches, so we're going to have an 18 inch screw lift and then an 18 inch drop leg lift. Combined weight capacity for the unit is 8,000 pounds. Outer tube measures 2 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. Again, the foot plate measures 8 inches long by 6 inches wide. The last thing I want to go over with you real quick is simply the distance between those welded on stop plates or stop brackets. The distance we have in between those brackets is going to be 15 1/2 inches, from the top of one to the bottom of the other, that's going to be 17 1/2 inches. I do want to show you this plunger pin real quick, or this pull pin. It's really easy to use. Right now I have it all the way engaged. When you're ready to extend your drop leg what you do is you grab this pin, and you want to pull it out, and then you can rotate it and it will stay in the open position. That's our drop leg. Provides an additional 18 inches of lift. Then, the spring loaded design, once that pin lines up with the hole, it automatically kicks in there and engages. That's going to do it for today's look at the Bulldog Tandem Landing Gear set with an 8,000 capacity.

The product came earlier than advised...we figured that would happen. It was all packaged together with no real attempt at protecting the whole unit aside from some shrink wrap around the two seperate landing gears. With that said, there was some paint chipping on the cross bar that connects the lead gear to the following gear, big stinking deal I'm the only one in there. The landing gear unit was installed about as easily as could be expected considering I was laying on top of my generator to get the drivers side (following) landing gear, in which coincidently, I had to trim a 1/8th inch off of the top cleat that is welded onto it. The distance between the top and bottom was off just that much that the unit would not fit into place if I did not do it. Knowing that I would measure the distance before feeding up into the brackets and climbing in and then over the generator to ind out it was a bit off. Of course the passenger side (lead) gear went in without a hitch and with full easy access. I installed the bulldog 8000 lb. unit on our 2007 raptor 3712 ts toyhauler. Note: I never downloaded the instructions so...From jacking the unit up from 16" of front clearance to 32" clearance, two small cuts in the under belly to swing the unit in, to the above mentioned customization to completion was 4 hrs. all by myself. I would recommend this product and etrailer.com. I raised and lowered the unit a few times just to try it out and everything was just fine. I should mention I had a previously purchased a metal housed reduction gear and motor that I install instead of the plastic housed gear that it comes with. I have only one complaint and it is the fact of climbing into the generator hatch off of a ladder became a nuicance. But it has nothing to do with the product just the things we have to do if we want to do the work ourselves to save a lot of money. Again, I would recommend this product and etrailer.com. I hope this review helps! 249100

Yes we received our Fifth Wheel landing on time, it was exactly what we wanted and the quality was over and above our expectations compared to prices they were selling in stores that sell trailer stuff, you were the best. We have been purchasing from etrailer whatever we need for our Fifth Wheel because you have the best prices and the best quality products always. We can only invite anyone looking for anything for your Fifth Wheel, Winnebago, etc, buy it from etrailer and then watch their movies ON YOU TUBE that will show you exactly how to replace your piece as that is what we have done and if it was easy for my non mechanical husband, anyone will understand the videos. ETRAILER YOU ARE THE BEST. 474261

I bought this product to replace a broken landing gear on my 2002 Forest River Sierra Sport 5th Wheel. Upon arrival I quickly discovered that the weld stops were on the wrong sides of the legs for my application, but with a cutting wheel and welder, I was able to remedy this problem fairly easily. The fit otherwise was spot on. I installed this landing gear by myself with no difficulty. After I got it securely mounted, I realized that the old motor from my broken landing gear was different. I have now ordered the high speed replacement motor LG-141893 to install on this landing gear. Overall, installation was easy and the quality of the product appears to be adequate for my application. Thanks to the etrailer.com staff for their help in assuring that this product would work for me. 260048

Bolted right up, easy to install, work great. Did not have any issues wIth the Bully Dog landing. Box was in bad shape from shipping and nuts and bolts scattered out in box but all there. The only I did not like there is no grease fitting on them, I will install a Zerk fitting on them for easy greasing. I would recommend the Bully Dod Landing yhey worked great for me. The Bulldog Landing gear set seems to be very well made and installed very easily. It was a slightly configuration than the pieces I removed but the legs went in without any real difficulties. It helped to have a second pair of hands but that wasn't crucial. As this set doesn't come with a motor I re-used mine and it bolted right up. In hindsight I should have taken more photos of the unit and parts I removed as I had to think carefully about some steps of the reinstall before I got ahead of myself. The ordering and subsequent follow-up by etrailer was very good. I felt like they truly care about my experience. I did have some questions about shipment and delivery and they answered my questions promptly. If I had any criticisms to make it would be with shipment itself. The cardboard box arrived a bit beat up and had some tears in the sides. A couple of the bags inside were also torn and loose parts (bolts etc.) were rolling around inside the box. Thankfully nothing had fallen out, that I'm aware. This was more to do with the choice of carriers though, nothing to do with etrailer itself. On the whole 2 thumbs up. I'd definitely re-order from etrailer again! 230759

Dwayne,We are replacing our landing gear too with the Bulldog 162 and have an electric motor from the old set. It was good news to hear that an electric motor can be installed on this set of manual Bulldog landing gear legs. So you had no trouble with the connections being the same size??????? Thanks for the info.

The system is still working well to date although to be fair we have not used it much since the install. A move to a different city has limited our camping this past year. I hope to remedy that next year.

  • Replacement Landing Gear for 2011 Jayco Eagle 5th Wheel Trailer
  • You do have landing gear with an odd measurement, but all of the replacement landing gear will be the 29.5 inches or 33.5 inches long. The # LC241846 is 29.5 inches long on that outer tube. Even with the difference in height, the mount locations for the brackets will be 17.5 inches so you can get a replacement landing gear set that is compatible. I've attached a photo to help. For that same 8,000 lb capacity, I recommend # RVLG-8000 to give you matching legs that are compatible...
