Video Transcript for Curt Bumper Hitch - - E-3S Review

Today, were going to review part# E-3S. This is the Curt 2 Inch Bumper Hitch, with a 5000 pound gross towing weight capacity. This bumper hitch has a 2 inch square receiver opening which is ideal for hitch accessories such as bike racks and cargo carriers. This does bolt to the underside of your pick up step bumper, so you just move this up then bolt it into place. If you notice, some of the sides on the wings here, there's openings, this here are actually your integrated safety chain hookups. On the plate itself, you notice the 4 holes, 2 elongated holes in the front, and 2 regular holes in the rear. Basically, you would use the included hardware which is shown here.

The 3 1/4 inch grade 8 bolts and the 2 1/2 inch grade 8 bolts, the 2 smaller ones and their flange nuts would be used in the rear. You put your flange nuts in. The 2 larger 3/4 grade 8 bolts would be used in the front, and you line the holes up. These holes are put at a distance that you'd usually match a lot of the holes already in the step bumper. If they do not line up to the step bumper, you would have to drill new holes. Just to give you an idea, the front row of holes if we go the elongated holes center to center.

It's going to measure 8 3/4 inches. The rear holes, center to center, 6 inches. The measurement from the front of the receiver opening to the back of the plate, it's going to be right at 6 inches. The plate length, front to back, it's going to be right at 4 inches. The total side to side width, it's going to be right at 14 inches. Basically, this will offer a lower hitch point to provide leveled trailer towing.

Also has a nice black powder coat finish, helps resist corrosion. Again, the weight capacity is 5000 pounds gross towing weight capacity and a 500 ton weight capacity. You do want to check your step bumper to find out what the gross towing weight capacity is of your step bumper. If it is less than those numbers, then you'll need to go buy the lesser mount for the weight capacity. The other thing they include are these 2 spacers. These would into play if by chance from the bottom of your step bumper, sometimes they do put a welded tab on the bottom.

That would be underneath, so when you go mount this up flat, that tab might not allow this to go flat. What you want to do in that case in take the spacers they included that slide on to these 3 1/4 inch bolts. They will just slide down until they hit the shoulder. Then what you would do is go to install them, you just go like that, put the other one on there, drop it in, and it gives you about a 1 inch clearance for anything that might be underneath your step bumper on your vehicle. If you don't have anything underneath it, you can just go ahead and mount it the normal way. That should do it for the review on part # E-3S the Curt 2 Inch Bumper Hitch with the 5000 pound gross towing weight capacity. .

For the price this is well worth it. The staff was very fast to respond to any questions i had. I am only using this for a bike rack and it worked perfectly. If you have to drill all holes in your bumper, make sure you are using a drill with a cord. The batteries will not last. I would def buy another product from this firm. This was a great quality product. 130470

The bumper hitch was exactly what I needed. It is perfect for attaching a wheelchair carrier to the step bumper of my Silverado pick-up. After I placed my order I recieved a confirming e-mail of the order. I recieved an e-mail the next day informing me that my order had shipped along with the tracking number. I recieved my order a few days later and installed it on my bumper in barely 5 minutes! I will definitely use E-Trailer for all future trailer hitch needs. 15526

This hitch should fit your 2002 Silverado with a step bumper, and yes you will need to drill for the installation.

The shipping was quicker than I expected. However, the bumper hitch didn't work well with my 1993 Nissan pickup with its step bumper. My bumper is too light and the mounting surface of the E-3S hitch is bowed, so it tended to try to pull my bumper apart in tightening. If you have a heavy bumper plate to bolt the hitch to, it should work great. 168903

Ask the Experts about this Curt Bumper Hitch

Do you have a question about this Bumper Hitch?

  • Will Bumper Mount Trailer Hitch Fit for 2019 Ford Ranger
  • The Curt 2" Trailer Hitch - Bumper Mount # E-3S is a universal type of fit with top bolt holes that measure 6" apart on center while the bottom holes measure 8-3/4" apart on center. If you don't have those measurements you would need to "mark and drill holes for two 3/4" bolts and two 1/2" bolts" according to the linked installation instructions. This would not be a very stable or secure hitch so I very strongly recommend instead going with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13417 which...

This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your truck and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation. It features a 7,000 pound towing capacity and will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening. I have attached an installation video on the 2017 model Tacoma that you can use for reference. All of the necessary hardware is included. If...

  • Trailer Hitch Fit Recommendation for 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500
  • There's a chance the Curt hitch part # E-3S would fit your 2010 Chevy Silverado but since this is a universal style hitch that's never been fit tested on your truck we can't guarantee that. We do have hitches for your Silverado though that are a confirmed fit. For example we have the etrailer hitch part # E98849 which has a 6,000 lb trailer capacity and attaches to the truck frame instead for a much more secure mount.

Based on your measurements, I recommend using the # E-3S hitch your mentioned with uses 3/4 inch bolt on the wider part and 1/2 inch bolts on the narrower mounting holes. It is made to fit your bumper, but you still may need to enlarge the holes using a rotary...

  • I got a sample of the Curt 2-Inch Bumper-Mount Hitch # E-3S from our warehouse so I could re-check the size and spacing of the mounting holes. The larger oval holes that accept the 3/4-inch hex bolts measure 3/4-inch x 1-1/4-inch. Their two outside edges are 9-3/4-inches apart and their two inside edges are spaced at 7-1/4-inches apart. This means you should have enough bolt clearance with your bumper's 8-inch center-to-center hole spacing. Those holes will need to be large enough to accept...

Instead I have a much better option for you for a hitch for your 1996 Ford Ranger. You would want the Curt hitch part # C12012 that will attach directly to the frame of your truck and would be a much better hitch setup.
