LED Display

The LED display on the TriFlex is large and easy to read at a glance. It will show you what setting the brake controller is on as well as give you information for troubleshooting. You can adjust the screen brightness or trigger night mode so it won't glare obnoxiously on your dash.

To change any of the settings, press the silver mode button on the front of the brake controller and which mode you are currently on will show on the LED display. When you're on the setting you want to adjust, use the black rocker switch next to the mode button to adjust it up or down.

Gain Adjustment

Gain control lets you set the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes, adjusting in increments of 0.5. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to go as high as you can without the trailer brakes locking up. Typically, the gain is only readjusted when you experience changing road conditions or if the weight of your trailer changes. To get more power to your brakes, press the upper rocker switch. To decrease the gain, press the lower switch. When you make your adjustment, the gain setting will show on the LED screen for 10 seconds and then go into sleep mode.

Load Control

Once you have the gain set, you can fine-tune your braking by adjusting the load control on a scale of 1 to 9. This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the maximum braking level. Load control can get the braking power to your trailer faster and with more intensity so that it doesn't push your tow vehicle forward. If your vehicle takes too long to come to a stop, increase the setting by pressing the upper rocker switch. If it stops too abruptly, decrease the setting by pressing the lower switch. You can alter the setting to suit your driving preferences or to improve handling based on changing road conditions or varied trailer loads.

Pinch-Trigger Manual Override

The TriFlex comes with a easy-to-reach, pinch-trigger manual override, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. To engage the manual override, just push in the trigger. This will activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you're cruising.

Safety Features

The TriFlex offers key safety features to prevent damage to various components of your towing setup. This starts with built-in protection against shorts and positive and negative power reversal, as well as continous diagnostic checks to alert you to any potential problems as they come up. To minimize the drain on your vehicle's battery, the TriFlex will automatically go into sleep mode after 5 minutes of inactivity. Sleep mode will turn off again the moment you press the brake pedal.

Quick Installation

Automatic leveling means you can mount the unit at any angle. Your mounting options are limitless, so long as you can still easily access the controller and the manual override. The included bracket is designed to mount the brake controller flush to the dash so it takes up almost no space at all.

If your vehicle already has a plug-in brake controller wiring harness, just connect the unit to it. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a vehicle-specific wiring harness (sold separately) to plug into. If a harness is unavailable for your vehicle, hardwiring will be necessary.

Note: If a custom brake control wiring adapter is not available for your vehicle, one of the following will be required:

20-Amp circuit breaker (9506P - sold separately) for 2- to 4-brake applications

30-Amp circuit breaker (38630 - sold separately) for 6- to 8-brake applications

See also etrailer.com's exclusive 7- and 4-way brake control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately) if you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle.

Proportional Braking

What is proportional Braking

The Curt TriFlex NEXT brake controller comes equipped with proportional braking to give you the best towing experience. Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

The TriFlex uses an internal 3-axis accelerometer to sense how your vehicle is braking so it can send the right amount of braking power to your trailer. It measures the inertia of your tow vehicle and activates the trailer's brakes to slow at the same rate. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.

The control works great. The reason for knocking off a star is that the control rattles whenever there is a vibration in the truck. While annoying, it doesn't affect the operation.

I have not used this device yet but I have installed it. It looks kool. I hope installation orientation doesn't matter too much.

The product I ordered was not available. There was a suggestion for another product, without the full knowledge that there are multiple other products, and I was only given one choice. It is what it is, if I knew of options, I would’ve made a different choice. Not a great company in terms of knowledge and service

  • Curt Triflex Brake Controller Randomly Clicking
Is the controller showing any error codes when the clicking is heard? The easiest place to begin would be to reboot the controller. Unplug the harness from the rear of the controller for a few minutes then plug the controller back in, which could possibly fix the problem. If that doesn't solve the problem, disconnect the red wire feeding the controller. If the problem still occurs the controller is faulty and should be replaced. If temporarily disconnecting the red wire corrects the...

  • Troubleshooting Curt TriFlex Brake Controller that Flashes 1.0 With No Trailer Connection
This is a common issue when there is corrosion built up on the brake output pin of the 7-way. What this does is cause the controller to sense a slight amperage draw which confuses it into thinking a trailer is connected. The other thing you can try is unplugging the controller and plugging it back in. Sometimes the Curt controllers just need to have a hard reset to function normally.

  • Curt Triflex Controller Shows Decimal Point and 2.o
For the Curt Trifles the " . " means that the controller is in standby mode with not trailer connected. "2.0" flashing constantly means that it is in output adjustment mode. Have you tried connecting to a trailer to see if it works or not? You were correct in not wiring the CHMSL wire to the 7-way so it sounds like you may have everything set up properly. You might run through the setup process for the controller that is in the install instructions link I attached to see if it just...

  • What Should the Curt Tri-Flex Brake Controller Display On Screen When Not Connected to Trailer
If your Curt Triflex part # C24VV is constantly flashing something on the display that would indicate there is a problem. It should only display a single dot when a trailer isn't connected and you are driving. If it happens to be flashing a RC code that means you need to unplug the controller and replug it back in as it needs to be recalibrated.

  • Troubleshooting Curt TriFlex C24VV Having L.b and Error Codes
I would be happy to help you troubleshoot the braking issues you are having with your Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV. There is not a L.5 error code programed into the controller but there is an L.b which indicates low voltage powering the controller. Then the -- you mentioned means that the battery is not giving enough voltage for the controller to work properly. Since you are getting both of these codes I recommend double checking the black power wire for the # C24VV....

The L. should change when that lever is moved. You can also try resetting the controller by unplugging it for a few minutes and then plugging it back in (without the trailer connected). We've found that Curt controllers periodically will have odd error codes like this and resetting them takes care of the...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that are Weak
Your Triflex controller is a proportional controller which means that with the brake pedal it's only going to apply braking power if it senses deceleration. If you are sitting still when you performed this test (most likely) then the controller won't send a lot of amperage/voltage to the trailer brakes. Most of the time when what you described occurs it's that the brakes need to be adjusted. I have included a link to a video to the right that should help. Fast forward to about the 4 minute...

The Curt Triflex part # C24VV that you referenced would do an excellent job as a brake controller in your 2012 Tiffin Allegro QFA34 towing a Master Tow Dolly part # 80THDEB. • Curt Triflex Brake Controller Troubleshooting Flashing 9.9 All the Time
The flashing output of a Curt Triflex normally indicates that the brake pedal is pressed but a trailer isn't connected. Since yours is flasing all the time that would indicate that you most likely have a short between the 12 volt power wire for the brake controller and the stoplight switch circuit which is confusing the controller into thinking that the brakes are applied all the time. The solution will be to go over the wiring of the brake controller to find the short and fix as needed.

  • Curt TriFlex Brake Controller Turns On with Brake Pedal Even If 2013 Kia Sorento is Turned Off
Yes. Brake controllers such as # C24VV are connected, in part, to the brake switch on the vehicle. When you step on the brake pedal it sends power along the red wire which is input to the controller telling it you are stepping on the brakes. On some vehicles, like yours, the brake lights will light up even if the vehicle is turned off. So it does sound like everything is working properly.
