When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Video Transcript for Titan Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - T4750800 Review

Today, we'll be reviewing Part Number T4750800. This is the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator for disc brakes. The hitch ball fitting is going to fit a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball. This is a bolt-on install. You can see the bolt pattern along here. That's going to be identical for the other side. Those bolt holes are all the same.

They're going to give us a diameter of 0.5 inch. The two angled ones are going to be separated by 1 inch. That's going to be the same on both sides. The channel width that we have is going to measure right at 3 inches, so this is designed to fit 3-inch wide channel tongues. The hydraulic actuator is going to synchronize your trailer brakes with the tow-vehicle brakes. When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs, and momentum actually pushes your trailer towards the rear of your vehicle.

With the surge braking system, the actuator is then triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. What happens on the inside here is that the actuator actually telescopes, which is going to apply force to its master cylinder which is located here on the back, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes. I'll rotate this around. You can see here on the back that we have the master cylinder. We also have the connection, a nipple 00:01:17 where youre going to connect the brake line. Right here, you have the reservoir for your brake fluid. It simply just removes by undoing the cap.

I do have that loosely installed just so I could show you access real quick. This has a unique roller design that's going to reduce resistance during telescoping to create straight-line movement. Its made from a sturdy, durable steel construction that's going to resist bending in jackknife situations. It has the standard, heavy-duty coupler, again, fitting a 2-5/16-inch hitch ball. Easy-to-use latch system, as well as a hole for a coupler pin or a coupler lock. Those are available and sold separately.

You can see just how easy that functions. That's to engage and disconnect from the hitch ball. The breakaway kit is included. That's what the chain is for right here. You connect the trailer and the vehicle with a chain. If the two we're to separate from the connection of the hitch ball, then the chain would pull tight, engaging this lever, which would then engage the brakes on the trailer, bringing it to a stop. Has a really nice, Zinc-plated finish on it, so it is going to stand up well against rusting and corrosion, and again, it is a bolt-on install. The mounting hardware is going to be sold separately. This is designed to work with disc brakes, again, fitting the ball size of 2-5/16 inches. That mounting channel, like we measured up front, is going to measure 3 inches in width. This is going to offer a gross weight capacity of 12,500 pounds with a maximum tongue weight of 1,250 pounds. This does not have a reverse lockout. You can purchase and add a reverse lockout Solenoid valve that's going to be sold separately with Part Number T4748800. When doing that, we also want to recommend using a Solenoid shield. That's available with Part Number T4836100183, and that is sold separately as well. The overall length is going to give us a measurement to this point here of right around 27.5 inches. Very easy system to use. Again, bolt-on install, 3-inch wide channel tongues. That's going to do it for today's review of Part Number T4750800. This is the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator for disc brakes. .

Great service by a salesperson (Jonathon) who knows what he is doing. He found that they had the two main parts that I needed and shipped those right out and then followed up and shipped a cover that could be added later. 240650

Ask the Experts about this Titan Brake Actuator
Do you have a question about this Brake Actuator?

  • How Does Titan Disc Brake Surge Actuator # T4750800 Allow Backing Up a Trailer
  • The Titan Model 10 Disc Brake Surge Actuator # T4750800 that you referenced does not have a reverse lockout. It is possible to back up a trailer with this coupler by reversing very slowly, slowly enough to avoid compressing the coupler and engaging the hydraulic actuator. My contact at Titan confirms that it is possible to add a reverse lockout solenoid valve, part # T4748800, to this actuator. We recommend using a solenoid shield, part # T4836100183, to provide protection to the valve...

  • Parts Needed To Add Surge-Type Actuator And Brake Lines To Tandem trailer With Disc Brakes
  • You are correct that there is only one fluid outlet on the coupler, part # T4750800 you referenced. This is the master cylinder on the coupler that sends fluid through the brake lines to the brakes. I have attached a photo of the coupler that shows the attach point for the brake line, and also a drawing that shows how the lines on a typical tandem axle trailer are run. For a tandem axle with 4 disc brakes I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Line Kit, part # DM5425. This kit includes...

  • How To Bleed Kodiak Disc Brakes On Trailer Using the Breakaway Switch
  • You can use the breakaway to bleed the brakes on your trailer. If the battery is fully charged, you just need to pull the pin and it will engage the brakes on your trailer. You want to make sure you have someone checking to make sure the reservoir remains full of brake fluid while bleeding the system. After bleeding the brakes you may want to hook your trailer up to the towing vehicle to charge the breakaway battery back to a full charge.

  • What Size Brake Line Should be Used with the Titan Actuator part # T4750800
  • The Titan actuator part # T4750800 that you referenced is designed to work with the standard trailer brake line size of 3/16 inch like what comes with the part # DM5425.

  • Can a Lunette Ring Coupler be Installed on a Boat Trailer for a Pintle Hook Style Trailer Hitch
  • Pintle hitches and lunette rings are usually found in agricultural applications and I cannot say that I have ever seen one used with a boat trailer. That is not to say that it could not work, it is just uncommon. A more traditional ball style coupler would be more ideal for road travel and it seems like it would also be easier to couple, uncouple. There would be a tighter fit with a ball hitch and a pintle set up might allow for more horizontal and vertical shock. We have a lot of brake...

  • Would Using Drum Actuator with Disc Brakes Cause Brakes to Lock Up
  • If you are using a drum brake actuator on a trailer with disc brakes what you'll normally experience is weak brake action. If your brakes are locking up and making the hubs hot it should not be because of that. Most likely they ended up damaging the two moving pieces and the actuator is stuck applying pressure on the brake assemblies. Since you are using the wrong actuator it would be a great idea to replace it anyway with the disc brake version # T4750800.

  • Parts Needed To Replace Hydraulic Braking System On Boat Trailer
  • Hydraulic systems are preferred on boat trailers because water and electricity do not mix well. The hydraulic surge brake system is self contained on the trailer and the only connection to the vehicle is the reverse lockout switch that is powered through the trailer connector. This switch keeps the surge coupler from locking the brakes on the trailer when you are backing up. I know that you told me that your boat weighs 6k, however I need your help to identify the axle so we can select...

  • Parts Needed To Change 11,000 Pound Trailer From Electric Drum Brakes To Disc Brakes
  • You can certainly switch from electric drum brakes to disc brakes on your trailer. You will want to confirm the weight capacity of your axles. It is likely that they are 6,000 pound axles, but you will want to double check. In addition to disc brake kits with hubs and rotors, you will also need an actuator and to run brake lines on your trailer. You will want to choose a disc brake kit based on the existing inner and outer bearings, grease seal, and wheel bolt pattern from your...

  • Master Cylinder Cap Recommendation for Titan Model 10 # T4750800

  • Putting Titan Model 10 Trailer Brake Actuator Back Together
  • You will pretty much have to remove as much as you can from the interior of the Titan model 10 actuator # T4750800 to be able to get to the parts you need easily. You will have to remove the master cylinder and components forward of it but be careful not to pull the break away cable out too far because then it has to be reset and that is a whole other issue. I have included a link to the installation details that does explain the process of putting the actuator back together. It is in...

  • Parts to Replace Hydraulic Brake System on a 2004 Magic Tilt Trailer
  • We can definitely get you started with parts for your Magic Tilt Trailer, but we will need some additional information to complete your parts list. We can start with a coupler. Since your boat trailer will not exceed 10,260 lbs, I recommend looking at a coupler like the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes, # T4750620. This coupler has a 3 inch drop like the coupler you referenced, but it has a 12,500 lb weight capacity which is closer to the weight of your trailer. Using...

  • Master Cylinder Filer Cap Opening Diameter and Threads Per Inch for Titan Model 10 Actuator
  • I went out to the warehouse and pulled the same master cylinder used in the Titan model 10 actuator, # T4750800 to measure the opening where the filler cap screws in. Using digital calipers I measured the opening to be 1.56 inches (1-9/16 inches). And as best as I could tell it has 20 threads per inch. It is entirely possible that it is considered a 1-1/2"-20 opening. If you can tell me what the bleeder system requires I can determine if the model 10 is compatible.

  • Availability of Disc Brake Actuator/Coupler Without Electric Reverse Lockout Feature
  • An electric reverse lockout solenoid like Titan # T4748800 is included in their disc brake actuator/coupler # T4750820 which you referenced. Electric lockouts can be retro-fitted to a compatible coupler; they can also be removed if you wanted to eliminate the reverse lockout feature. Titan actuator/coupler # T4750820 that you referenced fits a 3-inch-wide trailer tongue, includes a breakaway kit and bolts on to your trailer tongue.
