When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Not a fan because of the screw down and up for ball attachment. Unit Itself works great.

by:

Direct Bolt on, better than welding. Surge Brake Line connected just fine. Bled Brakes. Test drive was successful. What more could you ask for. I chose the hand tightening knob over the Lever because it was more assuring to me that it was tight on the ball and the locking mechanism has never failed. I have used Titan surge actuators for 40 years. I am using this actuator on a 4,000 lbs. boat and trailer. On my way to the lake!

by:

Very easy to install, I took the old unit off and had the new one installed in less than an hour. I hooked the trailer to my truck and primed the Hydraulic cylinder before I attached the brake line. No problems.

by:

Seems to be what I needed to have replaced, was easy to install. Only problem, NO instructions. I did find video suggestions online.

by:

Arrived corroded and not functioning properly. I had to disassemble and clean the rust that was on the inside of the fluid reservoir and the piston. I would have sent back but I needed it at the time. The piston was frozen. It took some time for me to figure this out.

by:

The part was a perfect fit and the service was prompt and friendly. I had a question and the person on live chat was friendly and helpful. I would definitely use etrailer again

by:

The master cylinder leaks around the ca p.

DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK (I have stronger words but you get the idea) You get this piece of junk and ZERO info. I'm going to stop reviewing now before I go off the deep end!

by:

Looks great ! But a Little high priced

by:

Fast and correct part.

by:

It mounted in the same holes my old unit was removed from great fit.

by:

Bolted right onto the trailer. No instructions and the link on the web sit didn't work but what do you need for two bolts. Wouldn't have minded some guidance with bleeding the brakes but got it done anyway.
Greatly improved the towing of my boat trailer!
Good price. Shipping good. What else would you want!?

Comments
Well, it worked great till I sold the boat last October. Shocked about the follow-up! Wow

by:

Perfect replacement for my existing brake. I'm using this brake coupled with the Titan actuator W/reverse lockout solenoid since there is no manual lockout and I don't have free backing brakes.

by:

Ordered for item repair at our plant. Ordering was easy and shipping was good.

by:

Great product works great on my boat trailer

by:

This product perfectly replaced my tongue master cylinder on my 1992 Capri boat trailer. It bolted right up and the brake line thread was the same. It was super easy. It is a huge improvement!

by:

Excellent product. This was almost an exact replacement for the original one that was on my boat trailer. I had the boat out about once a week this summer and the actuator worked perfectly. Braking was smooth and it locks down easily on the hitch ball. I highly recommend this actuator.

by:

Fast delivery & looks like the right brake actuator will install later this spring boat in storage. Very good service will recommend my friends to your company. Thanks for your help David Castle

  • Testing A Hydraulic Coupler and Bleeding a Hydraulic Brake System
We have a video that shows how to bleed a brake system, click on the link provided. You will need a helper, a length of rubber tubing that will fit onto the bleeder valve and a clear plastic or glass bottle. I prefer a glass bottle because it is easier to see through glass. Start with the brake furthest from the actuator, and open the bleeder screw and allow it to remain open while your helper pumps the actuator until you see brake fluid free of air bubbles coming out of the bleeder screw....

  • Does a Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator Have to be Primed for Use
The brake actuator, # T43397007K, does not have to be primed. I have included a link to a video that shows how to bleed the brakes manually. I have also included a link to the replacement actuator parts and a link to wheel cylinders we carry.

DO NOT allow brake fluid to contact painted surfaces since it will damage the finish. Wipe up any spills immediately and wash the area with water. A bad shock/damper and over adjusted brakes could be the cause of your problem. However, I would start off by checking to make sure that the spindle nut wasn't tightened down too tightly after replacing the bearings and seals. You should tighten the spindle nut until it is tight and then back it off one 1/4 turn. If this doesn't correct your problem, you could try backing off of the pad adjustment to see if this will help.
