When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Because this model does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without triggering your trailer's brakes.

Video Transcript for Titan Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - T4079200 Review

We're going to take a look at the Titan zinc-plated, bolt-on drum brake actuator, designed for the 2-5/16 standard ball. It has an 8000 lb weight capacity. How this hydraulic actuator will synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow vehicle brakes. Uses a unique roller design that'll reduce the resistance during the telescoping of the actuator to create a nice straight line movement. It is a sturdy durable steel construction, so that will help resist bending in any jack-knife situations. The coupler rod up front here is a standard heavy duty coupler designed to fit on a 2-5/16 hitch ball. Uses the lock right here that just pull up on this and when you open this up and allow the hitch ball to go in there, and when you close it that link ring will lock right into place to hold the hitch ball in there. Now it also comes with a standard breakaway kit here, which is included, just to show you when I unhook this.

You have your cable on the end of the carabiner hook and that carabiner hook will attach to your tow vehicle and the other end you can see here is attached to this lever. If you get into a situation where the trailer would ever come detached from the tow vehicle, it'll pull on this cable which will activate the lever and that'll activate the brakes on the trailer to keep it from a runaway situation. Now this actuator has a nice zinc-plating to it, provides corrosion resistance. If you look on the bottom here you see hose here, this is a bolt-on installation to your trailer top. The application on this is for hydraulic drum brakes, as I mentioned this fits a 2-5/16 standard hitch ball. Mounting this you'd need a 3" wide channel tunnel that this will mount to.

The weight capacity on the actuator is 8000 lbs. the maximum ton weight is 800 lbs. The last thing I'll show you, on the very back here you can see here is your connection for your hydraulic brake-line. Underneath is the master cylinder. You can see the cap here that you can put fluid into your master cylinder. Now this model does not use a reverse lock-out on it, so it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes, so that you can drive in reverse without triggering your trailer brakes. That should do it for the review on the Titan zinc-plated, bolt-on drum brake actuator for a 2-5/16 ball and a 8000 lb weight capacity..

It is a little hard to get connected. Requires driving forward and turning some to get the latch to shut. I feel confidant that it is not going to come loose while I am driving. 288255

The customer service was excellent! The replacement winch strap I had originally ordered was backordered for months. ETrailor quickly notified me and offered several other options. I chose one of those options and the order was filled and shipped with only a few hours delay. The complete order arrived within a few days, well protected in a heavy duty box, and as described and expected. They are perfect replacements for my old worn out parts. Thanks! 511448

  • Does Titan Model 6 Actuator Need Reverse Lock Out Solenoid
If you want to be able to back your trailer up without the brakes applying you will need the lock out solenoid part # T4748800 with your actuator part # T4079200. Otherwise your brakes will lock up every time your trailer gets reversed.

We have the perfect replacement for your Global Direct GDC-80 brake actuator. Since you mentioned "down tongue" I believe you were referring to having an actuator with drop. If you have disc brakes, the best option is the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop - Disc # DM8758811 and if you have drum brakes the best option is the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop - Drum # DM8759411. Both of these actuators have a 4" drop, are compatible with a 2-5/16" hitch ball, have an 8,000 lb...

  • Recommended Electric Lockout or Free Backing Brake Assemblies for Surge Brake Actuator
The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - 2-5/16" Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs # T4079200 does not have a manual lock-out. Because of this, it is recommended to use an electric lockout like # T4748800 or free backing brakes so that you can back your trailer without activating the trailer brakes. You can use the Hydraulic Brake Kit - Uni-Servo - Free Backing # AKFBBRK-35-D for 10 inch assemblies or # AKFBBRK-7 for 12 inch assemblies.

  • Is Mounting Hole Spacing The Same On T4079200 And T4853100 Trailer Couplers
The mounting hole pattern is different on the # T4853100 coupler versus the pattern on the # T4079200 coupler. As you can see in the attached photos the bolt pattern is closer together on the side of the # T4079200 coupler than on the # T4853100. You may wind up with some of the mounting holes in the same place but you will need to drill new holes for some if not all of the holes. • Is 8,000 Pound Titan Brake Actuator Sufficient for Trailer with 7,900 Pound GVWR
The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T4079200 referenced in your question has a weight capacity of 8,000 pounds, so it is rated appropriately and will work well for your trailer that features a GVWR of 7,900 pounds. Also keep in mind that the GVWR refers to the most the trailer can possibly weigh when it's fully loaded. It is unlikely that you will actually load the trailer up to this limit. I have attached a short video demonstration on this actuator that you can also check out.

If you have a 3 inch wide channel, then I recommend the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - 2-5/16" Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs # T4079200. • Is the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator T4079200 Suitable for Boat Trailers
Yes, the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator part # T4079200 can be used on a boat trailer. In fact, these actuators are actually designed specifically for boat trailers which is why they have a zinc plating so you don't have to worry about about rust/corrosion that is associated with launching a trailer in water frequently. In regards to being submerged, I don't see any issue with this but you don't want the actuator submerged for an extended period of time. If you are just referring to submerging...

  • Can the Check Valve on a Titan Drum Brake Actuator be Removed for Use with Disc Brakes
Technically, the check valve on the drum actuator, # T4079200, can be removed. However, it is not recommended to do so because you could end up damaging the master cylinder. It would be best to go with the appropriate actuator, # T4747200. You could also replace the master cylinder in the drum brake actuator using the disc brake master cylinder # T1777405.

It must be reset before the trailer is moved. First, carefully loosen the pressure line fitting to the master cylinder to relieve hydraulic pressure. Then remove the four bolts that secure the master cylinder assembly to the outer case. The flat front tab of the ā€œUā€ shaped break-away spring can then be placed in the top...
