Dexter Brake Actuator - DX33FR

  • Surge Brake Actuator
  • Drum Brakes
  • 2 Inch Ball Coupler
  • 7500 lbs GTW
  • Bolt-On
  • No Lockout
  • Straight Tongue Coupler
  • Dexter

Use this corrosion-resistant actuator to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow-vehicle brakes. Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on 2" hitch ball. Designed for hydraulic drum brake applications.

Features:

  • Hydraulic actuator activates trailer's brakes when tow vehicle slows or stops
  • Low-profile coupler latch ensures easy, secure connection
    • Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on hitch ball
  • Aluminum master cylinder is better at reducing corrosion than cast steel master cylinders
  • Zinc plating offers excellent corrosion resistance
  • Bolt-on installation
  • Manual lockout kit included
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: hydraulic drum brakes
  • Ball size: 2"
  • Mounting holes positioned 3/4" down
  • Mounting: straight, 3" wide trailer tongue
  • Capacity: 7,500 lbs
  • 2-Year limited warranty

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Perfect fit. I had to notch one corner where my wiring came out of the box tubing. Really nice compared to the original that was on there

This is a very well made Brake Actuator, with high quality and heavy duty materials. Flat top design suits my requirements of opening the tail gate without worrying about damaging the tailgate and for fixing the sticker for Ford Pro-Trailer Back up Assist. Overall, I am pretty happy with the product, pricing and prompt shipping.

However, I have two observations to make:
1. Manual lockout plate could have been tethered to receiver. Even better, fitted with a magnet so that plate does not fall off, when you are moving the trailer back and forth. There are after market products available with magnet. I improvised on my own with a piece of strong magnet from old hard drive.
2. I bought Dexter A-60 bolt-on top mount for two different trailers. I observed that in both cases, the mounting holes in the receiver does not exactly line up with holes in trailer tongue- off by about 1/16th of an inch. Looks like the inner unit welding to outer case could be the cause.

So I would rate the product as 4.5/5.

Review from a similar DX7.5L in Brake Actuator

Finished drum to disc brake conversion on my 1993 year model Bass Cat trailer. Installation went smoothly and the UFP-A60 Actuator replaced the obsolete Atwood Actuator. Shortened the outer member a bit and added a 1" flat bar to the bottom for welding of 4" channel trailer frame.

Review from a similar DX7.5L in Brake Actuator

Exactly what I needed. Didn't require the outer housing, the insider mechanism slid in nicely as a replacement on my trailer. The etrailer videos for installation and bleeding were very helpful.

Comments
Still working just fine after one year.

Review from a similar DX7.5L in Brake Actuator

Delivery was very fast. Quality seems very good. Installation was super easy since my Shorelander swing tongue trailer has this standard hole pattern. I love how it looks and the extra foot of distance I get between the boat and my tow vehicle (so less chance of needing to get my feet wet or crawl through the SUV).

Have not use the Actuator yet. However it came in a oversize box. No packing material to protect it. It was damaged when I opened the box. Scratches and damage cable

Review from a similar DX7.5L in Brake Actuator

Amazing price for my favorite hitch, tongue actuator system made. I own 6 trailers and have had another dozen in the past. There is no better looking or functioning system .

Comments
The hitch I purchased a year ago works perfectly and is always a pleasure to use compared to other brands. I have this same model on 3 trailers total and don’t want to have a trailer with any other type of actuator. It is easy to connect, brake lock out works well and is sleek and attractive.

  • Replacement Brake Actuating Coupler for Atwood 85778
The Atwood 85778 actuator has been discontinued so I recommend the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator - Bolt On - Drum - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7,500 lbs # DX33FR. If you need a higher capacity, then you will need to use a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball. I've linked the page to other options if needed.

  • Replacement Straight Tongue Actuator Recommendation for 2003 Ranger Boat Trailer
It looks like your 2003 Ranger 521 boat trailer has a straight tongue coupler so you should be able to use something like the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX33FR. This is a bolt on application that fits a 2" hitch ball and has a weight capacity of 7,500 lbs. The bolt holes sit down 3/4" from the top of the trailer tongue and then they are 3" apart on center. If you have an actuator with different specs let me know what those are and I can see if we have something that works for you.

  • Front of Housing to Edge of Fill Cap Dimension of Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuating Coupler
The front of the housing to the edge of the fill cap closest to the front of the coupler is 7-7/8 inches, as shown in the provided photo. You'd be better off mounting the sticker on the top or side of the trailer tongue behind the actuating coupler. You wouldn't want to apply the sticker over the junction between the housing and the portion of the actuator that modes, as it would destroy your sticker.

Unfortunately, we do not carry the correct replacement shock T4502000 for your Dico Aero 6000 actuator because it has been discontinued from production. I do have an option for you though we don't have any reverse lockout kits for Atwood surge brake actuators as they are no longer in business.
