Video Transcript for Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Bracket Installation

Today on our boat trailer we're going to review and install the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Bracket part number DL21742; this is applicable in conjunction with both 4 and 5 foot Dutton-Lainson Roller Bunks part number DL21740 and part number DL21741. To begin our install we're going to remove the old or manufacture's boards and brackets. Since we're removing the bunk boards and brackets we just going to take the u-bolts off the frame. Quick check tip, before you remove your board take a tape measure and get the height of your board. That way when you install your new brackets and rollers you can set it back to the same height. Now that we have the boards lose we'll go ahead and just take them off the trailer and set them aside as they will not be reinstalled. Now for our new rollers we're going to have the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunks part number DL21741. Now for our new Rollers we're going to install a new bracket to secure it to the trailer.

We're just going to reuse the old manufacturer's u-bolt. Once I have it set in place I'm going to go ahead and tighten it down. Note, for additional security we could add a second set of u-bolts here on the other side. Now here at the center support we're going to have 2 5 foot rollers come in together; we'll need 2 brackets. Both getting attached to the same spot; to do that we'll bring in a u-bolt from each side. This will secure our brackets.

Now I've got my first one in place, the back side here of the center support. We'll get our second u-bolt and support bracket. Now that all our hardware is in place we'll make sure she's in position and then tighten down the u-bolts. Keep in mind when tightening down your u-bolts make sure you tighten them down evenly. Now once we have the center support done we'll go ahead and install our last bracket here at the very end.

It will be the same process for the very first bracket. Now with all our brackets secured we'll go ahead and put our bunk rollers in place. Starting here at the rear set of bunk rollers we'll set it onto the brackets first. Not supplied with the install kit you'll need to add a bolt or bolt and washer for this application that'll go down through your bunk roller then through the bracket. Underneath I'm going to add a flat washer and nut. It's recommended to use nylon lock nuts; this will help prevent the hardware from loosening.

Let's go ahead and install it finger tight this time. Now we got our attachment point in place we'll go ahead and the same process here for the rear attachment point. Next, we're going to install our front bunk and rollers. It'll sit here on our forward and second bracket but because of how close we are oriented to the rear bunk we going to remove the rear set of rollers and we'll need to drill out our attachment point so that we can secure it to the bracket. Let's start with removing the rollers. Using a couple of 3/4 inch sockets we can simply just go ahead and remove the bolt that holds the rollers in place. I'm just going to slide the rollers back onto my bolt, thread that nut back on; that'll hold them together while I set them aside. Now I'll go ahead and put our front bunk in place. Set it in position on the bracket and mark the hole. Now we'll take our bunk back off, we turn it over and drill out the hole. To drill out the hole I'm going to use this small poly bit and then open it up to my final size using the step bit process. We now ready to go ahead and put the bunk back in place, drop in our hardware and secure it. Now with all our hardware in place we'll go ahead and tighten down all our fasteners. Now with one side done we'll do ahead and repeat the same process on the other side. Just like that we've completed the install of the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Bracket part number DL21742 on our boat trailer.

5 Ft roller bunk Part DL21741 is a high quality item. It installed in minutes on existing brackets. Boat is approx 3/4” higher than on standard bunks but it shouldn’t be a problem since it rolls on/off effortlessly. I also bought new brackets Part DL21742 thinking they might allow lowering boat a little but they were same as existing brackets so I returned them which was simple. Customer service was excellent. 447243

I used these brackets with the roller bunks and they made installation a breeze paired with the recommended u-bolts. The system literally went together in less than an hour with minor modifications I opted to make. I cannot wait to pick up my new boat and put them to the test. 333863

The brackets are as described but unfortunately given my trailer frame I couldn't mount my roller bunks any lower than the standard bunks. The lowest you can get these brackets is probably almost 4 inches above the frame, then you have to bolt the roller bunks on top of that. 271544

Due to a mix up in shipping....nobody's fault really, another type of bracket was required. The exchange was done without a hassle and the proper part is ready for installation. The product is better than expected but the customer service exceeded any I have ever dealt with anywhere! 269868

  • Recommended Roller Bunks for Boat Trailer to Ease Launching and Loading Boat and Bunk Guides
  • The best option for your boat to move better on and off your trailer is to use the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunks # DL21741. These rollers make loading and launching your boat easy. They are available in 4 and 5 foot lengths, so I've linked a page to assist. You will also need the roller bunk brackets like # DL21742. The attached video will also help you with the installation and operation. One note is that we recommend having a rope attached to your boat when using...

  • Trailer Roller Bunks and Keel Roller Recommendations for a River Raft
  • It sounds like you are looking for roller bunks such as # DL21741. These are 5 foot long sections (2 in a package) and are the longest we have available. Each section has 12 sets of rollers. They can be mounted directly to a wooden bunk or to the frame by using bracket kit # DL21742. If you are looking for a keel roller we have a 5-1/2 inch model # YR5244-105EC but no 6 inch. The next size up is 8 inches. With it you can use shaft # CE10722A with brackets # CE32004G or # CE10301G.

  • Comparing Dutton-Lainson and CE Smith Roller Bunks
  • There isn't a whole lot of difference between Dutton-Lainson roller bunks # DL21741 and CE Smith roller bunks # CE27710. Both have 5 foot long sections. Each section is rated for 1500 pounds. There are 6 rollers per section on both. Both are made with galvanized steel and heavy duty black rubber rollers. The main difference besides price is the shape of the rollers is not exactly the same. Either set can be mounted on a bunk or independently. To mount independently you would need...

  • Roller Bunk Recommendation for a Boat Trailer With 8 Feet Bunks
  • Yes, you would want to use two sets of 4 foot roller bunks since your current bunks are 8 feet long. I would recommend you go with the Dutton-Lainson Boat Roller Bunks # DL21740. These roller bunks would have plenty of capacity and would be sized perfectly. I attached a review video for this product for you to check out also. • Recommendation for Adding Bunk Rollers or Replacing Current Bunks with Rollers on Boat Trailer
  • Assuming that your bunk rails are at least five foot long, I would recommend using the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Roller Bunks, # DL21741. This system includes 2 - 5ft sections with a 3,000 pound weight capacity and offers universal mounts to attach either vertically or horizontally. This bunk system can be mounted flat against your current bunks and it is recommended that you match the length of the rollers to the length of the bunks. I would recommend stainless steel mounting screws, available at a local hardware store, to attach the roller bunks to your wooden bunks.
